  1. I like Polaris and Sonder. I thought Sonder was a better overall (more consistent song to song) album but really like a few songs on Polaris ("Hexes" in particular is awesome).

Their guitar tone kinda grinds me, I get what they're after but sometimes that deep muted sound if used too often sounds too samey. I think the reason I like Sonder is there was a bit more variety in what they're doing.

I agree the guitar/bass tones do get a little samey, but I dig it. They switched singers in the one album Altered State. Some really killer stuff on that record.

check this if you haven't heard it yet

  2. I really have grown to love the album. It is undeniably Tool. They didn't get outside their element for sure. But the music, especially the drums and bass, are over the top good and the production quality is perfect.

Got my tickets for November. I can't wait.

As an album that you play through from start to finish, I definitely like it better than 10,000 Days. I miss not having at least one snappy shorter song like "Vicarious" but that's a minor quibble.

I downloaded the album from HD Tracks. Hi-res flac files. It sounds phenomenal on my home theater system.

I'm definitely diggin' it but I need a road trip so I can really take the time to listen in it's entirely.

  3. Wow, i havent seen all the Star Wars movies .......but i wont miss this one. Will i be lost if i didnt see all the others ?

    Which ones haven't you seen?

Most of the newer ones...i should catch up.

Yes, you should familiarize yourself with the new cast: Rey, Ben (Kylo Ren), Finn, Poe Dameron, BB-8, et al.

The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi take place about 30 years after Return of The Jedi. The Empire has lost its stranglehold over the Galaxy, but the remaining forces form The First Order, which seeks to create a new empire and crush the Galactic Republic and Resistance once and for all.

and don't listen to the Last Jedi haters. It was great.

  4. I think the shorter format of a series is a good idea in terms of continuing Star Wars.

Now that the Skywalker story is coming to a close, many fans (especially the older ones) will walk away after Episode IX has its run. Going to the cinema to see a Star Wars film may lose its lustre.

I think you are under estimating Star Wars fandom. I am not that big of a Star Wars geek and I'm not walking away after IX. I'm 57.

  5. Despite owning the R40 blu-ray and all the other videos containing the truly hilarious intermission clips they mashed together, I still thoroughly enjoyed this! The new interviews were quite good and with more substance. and the side stories were interesting. Mostly, though, it was a testament to the enormous amount of footage that was captured at the time of the R40 tour. As a result, there were not just different angles, but a whole different look much of the time, not to mention the hilarious soundcheck footage, as well as the artistic superimposing of image and sound while keeping a cohesive narrative!!

It's also worth mentioning that my wife, who is not a Rush fan per se, quite enjoyed it. Interesting to see what they have in store for us next year...

Are you saying it was kind of a re-edit or that they used different R40 footage? If that's the case then I'm definitely in on the DVD.

Both. It was a mixture of footage from the R40 home video release, alternate R40 footage, and a different editing style. I really like the editing style, wish they'd redone the entire concert that way.

The editing definitely felt more cinematic

  6. Never watched the R40 DVD so it was awesome to see it on the big screen with the killer sound system. And Losing It was SO GOOD!!!

it reminded me of the old days of seeing Song Remains The Same in the theater.

  7. The final episode was phenomenal. But I have to say, that opening flashback is the single most distressing and disturbing scene I've yet scene. Were those disabled women and babies being loaded onto a truck to be torn apart by dogs?

Last 3 episode were epic, and yes that opening scene was very dark.
