Here's just a few Rock albums (I won't get into Jazz and Soul or else there'd be too many!):
Rush "Power Windows" - first Rush album I ever heard.
Rush "Moving Pictures" - the 2nd. And the one that really drew me in, leading me down the road to total Rush fanboy!
The Beatles "Abbey Road" - thanks to my folks, the Beatles were already familiar before I even started buying records. It seems like I've always loved em.
Husker Du "Zen Arcade"
Minutemen "Double Nickels On The Dime"
The Clash "London Calling"
Bad Brains "Rock For Light"
- despite my love of Rush, punk was what helped me survive high school in the '80s. These were and are monumental albums.
The Stooges "Funhouse" - the greatest ROCK album ever made. God bless Iggy.
Metallica "Master of Puppets"
Slayer "Reign In Blood"
Iron Maiden "Powerslave"
Motorhead "Ace of Spades"
As a punk, it was easy to ridicule metal in the '80s, particularly hair bands. These proved to me that there was metal, then there was METAL!
Sonic Youth "Daydream Nation" - expands my eardrums and my mind. Unbelievable.
The Birthday Party "Junkyard" - Nick Cave's first band. The most dangerous sound on the planet. Evil and twisted.
XTC "Black Sea" - punk/new wave meets The Beatles. How could I not love it?
The Kinks "Village Green Preservation Society" - an overlooked gem that I discovered about 10 years ago. To this day its perfection stands up against anything else out there.
Goldfrapp "Felt Mountain" - the most amazing and beautiful record I've heard in years. It's pure bliss. Allison Goldfrapp's voice is a drug.
The Futureheads "The Futureheads" - an amazing debut by a band I think is the best new rock band out there.
