  1. After watching that trailer for the upcoming Elvis movie, I'll have to choose Austin Butler (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_Butler) Pretty easy to see that guy donning the Saturday Night Fever gear, maybe even doin a bit of Vinny Barbarino :P up next! James Caan
  2. Think you've got it backwards a bit ;) The question is who should portray Al Pacino in a biopic about Al Pacino. Though you may have inadvertently come across a cool casting in Sam Rockwell - I'd see that! "Sam Rockwell as Al Pacino in the Al Pacino story - "All out of order!" " ;)
  3. Which year of the 1960s was the BEST for music? It's time for the battle to start! (1960-1969) For each year of the 1960s, which year featured the best album releases and live shows?? Nominate up to FIVE individual years as your top five. Give your reasons why too, of course! Your top choice will be given 5 points, your next choice will be given 4 points, 3rd best gets 3 points and so on all the way down for your top 5. EXAMPLE ballot "I vote as follows: 1967 (5 points), 1962 (4 points), 1961 (3 points), 1969 (2), 1965 (1)" After some time, I'll tabulate all the points and have the years battle each other out playoffs style! Bottom two vote-getters will be eliminated right away, the remaining 8 will be seeded a la the NHL playoffs based on their point totals (#1 faces #8, #2 faces #7 etc...) Look forward to the discussion and potential upsets!
  4. (If this should be in a different forum, I don't mind at all) Simple concept: I'll start by naming a fairly famous actor or actress. Next poster decides a current actor/actress who should play that person in some sort of future biopic, and give some reasons why. Same poster then choose a different actor/actress for the NEXT poster to discuss in the same fashion. Keep the chain going and going! Example: Poster A: "Leonardo DiCaprio!" Poster B: "I think (Actor X) because (reasons, reasons, and further reasons)" - "Next up: Eddie Murphy" Poster C: "I think (Actor Y) because (reasons and continued reasons)".... Look forward to the discussion! FIRST ACTOR NOMINATION: Al Pacino
  5. YouTube link here - (will post this in another forum if this isn't the best place) Check out the rest of her channel for more drum covers
  6. Don't forget to choose an album for the next poster! I'll start up the game again. NEXT ALBUM: Caress of Steel, side 2
  7. I'm doing some research for a piece I hope to write soon, and (if it's alright with the powers that be) I'd like to ask the board members a few questions It's all about bands and musicians who have "sold out". No need to be too formal or anything, but say as much as you like (I won't link to this board or name any board members in the piece I write) Here we go! 1. What does "selling out" mean in the world of music? 2. Who, in your opinion, has "sold out"? What do you point to as their "sellout" moments? 3. Does anybody come back from "selling out", or is it a permanent stain on the act's career? 4. What sorts of actions would constitute "selling out", whether or not somebody you've named in your answer #2 did that or not? 5. Tell me anything else that might be pertinent to the idea of "selling out" Thanks for any and all answers you guys give!
  8. I guess I'll call next then, this time Permanent Waves (and don't forget that if you answer the question YOU call what's next)
  9. Don't forget that you can call next! What album should the next poster try to complete?
  10. Seems easy, right? Just list all the tracks off of any officially released Rush album (studio, live or compilation) in order, INCLUDING any subsections of songs. Example: If you're listing off "The Necromancer", you MUST include all the information 4. The Necromancer i. Into The Darkness ii. Under The Shadow iii. Return of The Prince One poster lists an album title, next poster lists the tracks from that album in order. Multi disc/record albums are ok, but specify an album side/disc Example: Disc 2 of Chronicles The catch: NO CHEATING! Do NOT look up any answers! See if you can do it from memory alone! Here's how it should look. Poster X: Moving Pictures Poster Y: 1. Tom Sawyer 2... Poster Y: Next album: Counterparts Poster Z: 1. Animate 2.... (and so on) We're operating on the honor system here! I'll start us at the very beginning. Whoever replies to the post chooses next. Rush (self titled) - 1974
  11. As a follow up to the "Funniest Neil moments" thread, what are the funniest moments from Alex? And, as before, links please!
  12. Inspired by watching a bit of "The Boys in Brazil" the other day Whether in interviews, live shows, albums, documentaries, writing or any other source.... Where can we see the best funny Neil Peart moments? Also, please don't forget links!
  13. QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Oct 3 2012, 12:33 AM) QUOTE (adace1 @ Oct 1 2012, 06:36 PM) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hdZ951JoMU It just cracks me up to think of Hitler in hell seeing what his legacy has become. http://www.billboard.com/column/viralvideo...007952002.story For some people, that's the whole point. For those people, laughing at him may very well be the best way to respond to his whole legacy. <end derail>
  14. If I listened to Korean radio, I'd imagine he's on it all the time. Alas, I don't I do get to see PSY on many new billboards and advertisements, as well as TV spots and YouTube commercials. I even saw the video on the taxi's TV as I was headed somewhere yesterday. Don't worry about Korea, though. This guy is a bigshot right now, and I think rightfully so. The song is cool, and I really enjoy the parodies you can find on YouTube (Look up "PSY Hard"). The Korean pop landscape, moreso than the West I think, will be very eagerly looking for the NEXT Big Deal. It's been the same ever since I got here. One song is huge on the radio, then the next guy comes along in a month or two and, like I said, I think it happens much faster than it does in the West.
  15. QUOTE (Ya_Big_Tree @ Feb 4 2012, 02:25 PM) I just checked out the first season of this show: Spartacus: Blood and Sand and OMG!!! Excellent visuals... lots of blood, sex and gore. What more could anyone want? The start of season 2!
  16. I'm pretty sure it's not a political issue, so it should be able to stay, right? "Ottawa Police say the investigation into why a one-month old child was left in a locked, hot car for nearly an hour on the weekend by its parents is not closed." http://www.ottawasun.com/2011/07/19/cops-s...ot-car-incident Thankfully, I've never seen it myself. I'm also thankful that, unlike in so many other years, THIS news story doesn't feature the death of some kid or pet. Seriously, cars can get hot a LOT faster than you think. Open some windows or turn on that AC if you can.
  17. Everyone knows that you need to sell a kidney to get the iPad 2 http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_technews/201...dney-for-ipad-2
  18. Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of two movies (Good Morning Vietnam being the other) where the soundtrack is so much better than the movie itself, to the point of "why even bother with the movie?". I've seen RHPS a few times and was NOT punching my TV set, but it's not something I'm gonna rush to the store to buy. Just get the soundtrack!
  19. TOS is my favourite of the TV shows, even though it is VERY hit and miss. TNG was awesome after season 2. Season 1 and 2 had some great moments, but the machine didn't kickstart until season 3. Despite what lots of people say, I think Voyager was pretty cool! Can't compete with the first two series, but there were some good moments. Deep Space Nine...haven't seen a lot of it, but what I've seen is pretty meh. Enterprise was pretty cool. I haven't seen any of the animated series. As for the movies, the ones that were any good were: 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 and Star Trek. I haven't seen Nemesis or The Motion Picture. Star Trek V definitely deserves its place at the bottom of the list.
  20. Looks pretty good, but why so much time between parts 1 and 2? I mean, I know the obvious answer, but I don't have to like it
  21. Bob Dylan is in Seoul!!!!! ....... ........ ........ ....... On a Wednesday
  22. The thing about gaming that makes it different (choosing a playpath) is not transferable to screen. Films present a straight narrative, whereas games frequently offer different choices for the player to make. GTA is heavily influenced by cinema and TV. What makes GTA unique enough to bring to the big screen? The thing about GTA that makes it unique would not translate to film. GTA stories are heavily influenced by crime drama stories, as is the entire feel of the series as a whole. That thing, not being entirely unique, would not make for a very compelling story, the thing that movies are supposed to do. It would simply be another crime/gangster film. Why bother even getting the license to call it GTA?
  23. ...but how many boats has Jack built?
  24. 70 minute review? I'd say that's about 69 minutes 30 seconds more thought than Lucas gave to the actual movie!
  25. So they're gonna try their absolute damndest to win the Oscar for MOST UNNECESSARY MOVIE of all time?
