  1. If you're at a live Rush show, where's the best seat in the house?? And I do mean Rush specifically! - For other bands, you may want a different kind of seat, and that's fine! I'm going off of a pretty standard "sports arena sectioned off for a rock show" arrangement, as can be seen in this diagram (from rateyourseats.com) (Stage in black, everything behind it closed, most fan seats in blue, maybe the suites are open to those with extra cash) And no cop-out super hilarious "The best seat is MY HOUSE lol!" answers either The touring days may sadly be done, but we can still reminisce and discuss!
  2. Here we go yet again! Is Geddy Lee your favorite rock singer? The caveat, yet again - "favorite", not necessarily "the best" He's boombastic on the bass, but is he a superior singer as well? Do you venerate his vocals? Does his voice vanquish the competition? What say you??
  3. Once more unto the breach! Is Neil Peart your favorite lyricist? We know that he dazzles with drumming, but does he wow with words as well? Key distinction time yet again! - "favorite", not necessarily "the best" What say you? Is The Professor the top of the class when it comes to lyrics?
  4. Here we go again! Is Neil Peart your favorite drummer? Key distinction yet again! - "favorite", not necessarily "the best" What say you??
  5. Here comes yet another FAVORITE poll! Is Alex Lifeson your favorite guitar player? Key distinction once again! - "favorite", not "the best" What say you??
  6. Here comes another FAVORITE poll! Key distinction! - Not "the best", but "your favorite" What's your take??
  7. We have come to the knockout round of the "Battle of the decade"! (Early 70s) Sadly, we must say goodbye to the lowest vote getter! 1972 had some votes, but it just couldn't hang in against such fierce competition. We still love ya, 1972!! Now the one on one matches commence! First up, we've got a battle between the top vote getter (1971) and the scrappy underdog (1973) 1971 dominated the preliminaries, but could 1973 pull off an upset here?? Which year wins this battle?? Have at it!
  8. Looking back, what years or seasons in sports were the most memorable? Not just for individual teams either...let's talk about the entire league!
  9. Tally updated! A clear leader so far, but maybe fans of the other years can give their faves a boost! Keep the votes coming!
  10. Same concept as my previous thread, with a little re-tooling Five years enter, one will reign supreme! What is the best year for music from the early 1970s? We're talking albums, live shows and live recordings - what year rules the roost?? Nominate THREE years from this timespan by giving the following number of points #1 best year (first best) - 5 points #2 best year (second best) - 3 points #3 best year (third best) - 1 point An example ballot would look like this My #1 vote - 1972 (5 points) My #2 vote - 1974 (3 points) My #3 vote - 1970 (1 point) After enough votes are cast, I'll tally up all the points and pit the top four vote getters against each other. Least number of votes from preliminary five is automatically eliminated The four remaining will be seeded a la the NHL playoffs (1 vs 4, 2 vs 3) head to head. Winners of that head to head round will face each other in the Final Round, with one year being declared the victor! (I will keep a tally of current points at the top of this post, editing as needed)
  11. The Niles vs CC battles were definitely a draw for the series, as I recall. I'll say YES, it holds up but strongly dependent on the above. Without it, I doubt the series would be remembered as much. Next series up for discussion: Coach
  12. I did this one some time ago. It'll be interesting to see if anything has changed
  13. Don't forget to show some love for season collapses too! Here's a compilation from NFL Films https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OILuF8Tvo8
  14. Wow. There's "outside the strike zone" and then there's "in a different area code"
  15. Here's a fun video compilation of blown plays and "What were you thinking?" plays across a variety of sports. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUqzUGHLkoY (blocked for display on websites, gotta go to YouTube to see it) What are some of your all time favorite blown plays or lousy calls in sports? Whether in a single game OR a season-long collapse, what moments in sports make you wanna scream "How could you have possibly lost that??"
  16. A very simple concept! One poster mentions a TV sitcom from the past (no longer producing new episodes) and asks the simple question "Does it still hold up??" Next poster says "yes" or "no" (or somewhere in between) and lists a bunch of reasons for their opinion This same poster then chooses the next sitcom up for discussion For the sake of discussion, we should limit this to sitcoms that, generally speaking, received reviews and ratings in its lifetime from at least average to excellent. Any sitcom stinkers, one episode wonders and the truly bizarre should be kept out of this discussion! What does "does it still hold up?" mean? Consider the following Is it still funny? Do the jokes still land? Is the acting good? Is the writing still good? Are the serious moments still watchable or is it pure cringe? Do the themes still feel relevant to this day and age, or is it purely a product of its time? (or discuss if that's even a bad thing!) The overall thing to consider, of course, is the question "Is it worth taking time today to sit down and watch this sitcom?" Let's talk about it! I'll get the ball rolling First choice: Who's The Boss? (ran from 1984 to 1992 - average reviews, strong ratings overall) Does it still hold up??
  17. as a young De Niro, I'd choose Tom Hiddleston He does a killer impression of DeNiro Up next: William Shatner
  18. Or suffer any bizarre gardening accident
  19. Late 60s beating out early 60s (so far, anyway) - not too surprising Keep the nominations coming folks!
  20. My own ballot 1969 - 5 points (gotta give love to Zeppelin II) 1968 - 4 points 1966 - 3 points 1964 - 2 points 1967 - 1 point
  21. After watching that trailer for the upcoming Elvis movie, I'll have to choose Austin Butler (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_Butler) Pretty easy to see that guy donning the Saturday Night Fever gear, maybe even doin a bit of Vinny Barbarino :P up next! James Caan
  22. Think you've got it backwards a bit ;) The question is who should portray Al Pacino in a biopic about Al Pacino. Though you may have inadvertently come across a cool casting in Sam Rockwell - I'd see that! "Sam Rockwell as Al Pacino in the Al Pacino story - "All out of order!" " ;)
  23. Which year of the 1960s was the BEST for music? It's time for the battle to start! (1960-1969) For each year of the 1960s, which year featured the best album releases and live shows?? Nominate up to FIVE individual years as your top five. Give your reasons why too, of course! Your top choice will be given 5 points, your next choice will be given 4 points, 3rd best gets 3 points and so on all the way down for your top 5. EXAMPLE ballot "I vote as follows: 1967 (5 points), 1962 (4 points), 1961 (3 points), 1969 (2), 1965 (1)" After some time, I'll tabulate all the points and have the years battle each other out playoffs style! Bottom two vote-getters will be eliminated right away, the remaining 8 will be seeded a la the NHL playoffs based on their point totals (#1 faces #8, #2 faces #7 etc...) Look forward to the discussion and potential upsets!
  24. (If this should be in a different forum, I don't mind at all) Simple concept: I'll start by naming a fairly famous actor or actress. Next poster decides a current actor/actress who should play that person in some sort of future biopic, and give some reasons why. Same poster then choose a different actor/actress for the NEXT poster to discuss in the same fashion. Keep the chain going and going! Example: Poster A: "Leonardo DiCaprio!" Poster B: "I think (Actor X) because (reasons, reasons, and further reasons)" - "Next up: Eddie Murphy" Poster C: "I think (Actor Y) because (reasons and continued reasons)".... Look forward to the discussion! FIRST ACTOR NOMINATION: Al Pacino
  25. YouTube link here - (will post this in another forum if this isn't the best place) Check out the rest of her channel for more drum covers
