  1. QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ Sep 1 2007, 11:14 PM) I haven't seen a thread about The Young Ones. It's a comedy from U.K. circa 82-84. If you haven't it check out some clips on youtube. I love Vyv. Neil looks a lot like Kris Novoselic of Nirvana. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79hiqIAd8zs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdkT9sGRw_E Yup...love this show too! I watched all the episodes! Very cool...
  2. QUOTE (paganoman @ Sep 2 2007, 01:53 PM) QUOTE (Der Trommler @ Sep 2 2007, 12:55 PM)QUOTE (Sark @ Aug 31 2007, 09:52 AM) I thought Costner was good in Open Range. I prefer Kurt Russell in Earp's role. Didn't see open range but Costner also produced that as well. As far as Kurt Russell, I agree. The role fit him better..... ANYTHING Kurt Russell does is going to be a better fit than Costner. Russell brings confidence to a role, whereby Costner only brings cockiness. Costner thinks he's so good that the role is blessed with his portraying it. It comes across on screen like a bad stink. The only time he appears good on screen is when he has a high power co-star to save the scene (i.e., Tim Robbins, Sean Connery, Morgan Freeman, etc.). Tombstone is one of the greatest ensemble cast movies ever made. Anyone who was in it should be proud as hell, and anyone who was in it did an awesome job in their roles. All the way up from Sam Elliott right on down to Jason Priestley. This movie was our first date. We spent the entire movie pointing at all the who's who and just had a blast throughout. I wonder if we would have made it to a second date if the movie sucked? I agree This movie featured a ton of talented actors not upstaging anyone else but working through the movie as an ensemble as it was meant. Never saw Wyatt Earp but judging from Robin Hoods, Costner was being upstaged by everyone else (not on purpose by the other actors, they are just better acting).....I mean, it illicited a response from Mel Brooks, Robin Hood: Men in Tights....Carey Elwes (as RH), 'I, unlike other Robin Hoods, can speak with an English accent.' Costner's just not good at acting...although, he did an earlier movie, American Flyer, where I didn't recognize him. His acting was that good.....
  3. Saw Strange Brew again (last time was 1987!). Rush reference in there. Hockey, Beer, Rush! Oh my!!!! Still a funny movie!
  4. So, LSM & I got hooked on a cute show on the Food Network named Feasting on Asphalt. The premise is the host (Alton Brown) drives a motorcycle (with an entourage) across America finding the best places to eat or make stuff for themselves on the road. Adding more to this, RoR tells us there is a song as the intro to the show. Sure enough, there is! It's the typical cutesy version of Analog Kid! Definitely one that The Professor should enjoy....Maybe Alton & he could do a little riding together & make a show from that!!

QUOTE (thesweetscience @ Aug 31 2007, 09:02 AM) QUOTE (Der Trommler @ Aug 30 2007, 10:02 PM) QUOTE (thesweetscience @ Aug 30 2007, 09:29 PM) I do agree that Val Kilmer did an excellent job of portraying Doc Holiday but I think that Dennis Quaid did an equaly good job of playing Doc in "Wyatt Earp". I love history so I think I liked "Wyatt Earp" just a little more than "Tombstone" because it was a more complete story about the life of Wyatt Earp. They were both great movies though. I don't like Kevin Costner. He is horrible! If it weren't for his supporting cast, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves would have flopped. He couldn't even give a fake English accent in that one! I didn't like Wyatt Earp mostly for the acting. I don't think Kevin Costner is a bad actor but he has been miscast is some rolls that were not good for him. Robin Hood was a good example. I thought He was a pretty good Wyatt Earp and I like that the movie was a more realistic portrayal of the whole life of Wyatt Earp. American history fascinates me so maybe thats why I liked it. Costner casts himself. These are his movies. He was the producer for every one of them-Dances with Wolves, Robin Hood, Waterworld, Wyatt Earp , The Bodyguard, Message in a Bottle, The Postman, were done by him. That's why he was cast in them. In some of these, he was also the director.... But this is also the reason I don't like as much because he can obviously spot a good script. He should stay behind the scenes & get those scripts out with better actors. Sorry, I just don't like him as an actor.

When I was in music class, we didn't "watch" anything - we listened to "live" performances of Porgy & Bess....in shifts! And mind you, I'm not ancient or anything - we're talking around approximately 1990 or so... VCR's DID exist LOL When you have over 250 gb worth of their bootlegs & are continuing even as we type!!! hehe yup yup! that's me! When you consider getting a paint job on your van so it will forever be known as the "Rush Mobile" I thought it was going to be the Mobilee Mobile?

Depp is certainly a capable actor, an interesting choice for the role and would have brought his own unique stylings to the character. But I can't imagine anyone doing a better job than Kilmer did. I know I said it before, but this is one of my favorite movie performances of all time. I feel Val Kilmer is also one of the most underrated actors out there....Look at all the different type of movies he's done. oh,this is not to underestimate Depp who is, in large, another favorite actor of mine.....

  12. QUOTE (JDL2112 @ Aug 26 2007, 04:59 PM) I have seen Tombstone a few times...(like 50 few) and at some point I really felt that Val Kilmer played Doc Holliday as well as anyone. I recently went to a Val Kilmer fan page, and they were having a discussion about the fact that they felt he should have received a nomination for best supporting actor, and probably won it for his role. What I learned from this site was that the company that submits actors or crew for consideration simply "didn't get the request in on time". Does anyone have an insight on this? Also, does anyone feel that his portrayal was Oscar worthy? Actually, his role was critical in that movie. I feel he really did a great job.
  13. QUOTE (mazyyz @ Aug 28 2007, 11:58 PM) The whole "slashing your wrists" and "taking pills" methods are ways where one is trying to get attention rather than truely killing themself. Because if someone really wanted to kill themself, they would pick a more definitive way to do it. There are people who have commited suicide by whatever means that were in a position of reaching for a phone or some other way to get help. Most people that do kill themselves really want to but at the last second, realize they don't want to. It's not the type of attention getter you are thinking. People are crying out for help but can't figure the way to do it. I like Owen. He's got a lot a good movies he's done. I can't imagine why he'd want to kill himself but he's in a safe place now & hopefully will be able to work things out....As for cutting wrists, there's really only one way to do it. This one is one I know from a personal experience.

  15. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Aug 24 2007, 11:46 AM) QUOTE (condemned2bfree @ Aug 24 2007, 07:53 AM) Gotta question. Does anyone know the first real 007? History Buffs May know this, as its out of popular culture. Barry Nelson in the 1954 television production of Casino Royale, part of the television series Climax!. There was a remake movie of Casino Royale done by David Niven. He was, in some books, considered the first Bond because it was the first big screen? I don't know. Someone who was a Bond buff told me that one which is why I have that stuck in my brain....
  16. QUOTE (goose @ Aug 22 2007, 10:52 PM) One of the best shows to come around in the past few years. Don't have Showtime, but have seen many episodes. Very clever...and MILF-laden. Nice one!!! I agree!!! Very nice!!
  17. If anyone else can, see this show. It's got a fairly well known cast with a very well written script....
  18. QUOTE (Ya_Big_Tree @ Aug 21 2007, 02:15 PM) I LOVE this show! It's refreshing to see David in a role like this. It suits him well me thinks. I absolutely loved the first scene, with him walking into the church and meeting the nun I did too...The overall show is very refreshing yet it has a feel of an HBO show called Dream on.....which I was also a fan of. The only thing I hated about these shows is when they got syndicated & went on regular TV for edited versions....Much better on this medium....
  19. QUOTE (LakesideMaiden @ Aug 21 2007, 01:32 AM) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/35/GraceSheffield.jpg/220px-GraceSheffield.jpg Little Grace Sheffield! (From The Nanny) http://www.sho.com/site/californication/season1/images/mia_pic.jpg .....not so little anymore - and naked on the show LOL I feel slightly violated seeing that! All in all, though, a VERY funny show She filled out very well.....

  23. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Aug 13 2007, 09:40 PM) QUOTE (Slime @ Aug 12 2007, 10:15 PM) QUOTE (steelcaressed @ Aug 11 2007, 03:40 PM) Concerning the video, he did OK at bashing the heckler. It would have been far more impressive to me if he could have done it w/o stooping to the "your mother" joke. If he says that to the wrong heckler, he could end up needing dental work. To be fair, the guy wasn't exactly asking an honest/thoughtful question. So it warrants a sodomy "joke" about his mother? Probably not but that's usually the first thought on most guys as a comeback. It was after that that made it more funny. If someone questions my stuff with a dumb question like that, I'd probably start making fun of him too (unless he was bigger than I was or there was a lot of security!)
  24. Well, I love Star Wars, LoTR, & almost all the Kevin Smith movies (haven't seen all). So, I guess I agree with both?
