This appears to be from their mascara and kimono years. I had a poster in college with Al & Ged obviously wearing makeup. Their stage outfits in these pics look real similar to that poster. Regardless of the bad wardrobe/makeup decision, they still rocked it! Great pics!
Sounds like that HUGE poster with the Hemispheres font.

I managed to find a copy of Headlong Flight on Ebay. No cover for it though. :(
Sounds like the generic Roadrunner promo with the album version and the edit. Haven't spotted that one yet.

No one cool ever played my high school. I did see Marillion in a college cafeteria in 1985.
I'd have signed up for that!
I saw Marillion open up for Rush twice in 1986 at the Meadowlands from the other end of the arena. Still pretty amazing seeing Misplaced Childhood twice, but not as cool as the experience you had. I'm sure you got that and more!

A good rule of thumb is whoever signed closest to the greeting.
I'd rule out Geddy for few reasons in this case.
Looks like Neil's handwriting, but Alex is closer.
Since I'm being anal about this, if it were Neil, you'd think he'd sing it closer to where he is in the photo, but maybe Alex didn't leave him a choice.

I am tired of "Tom Sawyer." Tired of it! It has been played EVERY SINGLE SHOW since 1981, and I'm sick of hearing it on EVERY LIVE ALBUM. It sounds EXACTLY THE SAME on every album. Maybe it's time to put the "modern day warrior" to rest? Can we, as loyal fans of Rush, convince the band that "Tom Sawyer" has got to go?
By the way, before you counter with something about "The Spirit of Radio," I say it stays because it sounds different—better, I think—now than it did 30 years ago.
I've been staging my boycott since the mid-'80s. I sit down. I understand why it's played, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. (Limelight is the one that kills me more though these days)
It doesn't sound EXACTLY the same though. It's evolved like any other song, but maybe less so.
That said, it does seem to have new life for the last ten years live just like the band itself. They've definately avoided the autopilot switch most of the time lately.

I'd love to add a single from the very early days to my collection. What would you want for it?
PM sent.

Both Counterparts and Close to the Edge showed up on Monday. I haven't cracked them open yet.
I will this weekend when I can compare to the original and the remaster. I expect this will blow both of them away, but you never know until the test is done.

Haven't road tested Close to The Edge yet, but I did check out Counterparts.
I was expecting great things, but I'm not sure what to think.
I listened to the Atlantic remaster first before putting on the gold disc and there are some things I like about it and other things I don't. It's cool that they extended Stick It Out a bit longer (like on the demo) and the low end is as sweet as I could ever imagine.
I'm not sure if bringing the vocals back in a little was a good idea though. There are parts where there is some mud that there wasn't before. There's improved separation which is always good, but it just isn't very sharp.
I'll probably need time to evaluate it more, but right now I'm not as impressed as I was hoping t be. I should probably dig out my original copy too and maybe that will sort things out a little.
I haven't heard too many reviews of this so I'm not sure if I missing something, but I only heard it three times.
I probably should have recorded it for the car.

Was this gig recorded or am I thinking of a Wisconsin gig later that year? Now that I looked at that list again, the recording might have been from a day or two later.
-
One of the better recordings of the tour that has surfaced and certainly a unique show.

To some, this is a news flash and to others it isn't.
-
Never saw these before! Thanks!

Hopefully, someone will record this.

Im selling an item from my CD collection on Ebay. just time for someone else to have it as part of their collection.

Its a really cool CD that I received when working on college radio.
I have one of those. I think whoever bought it got a pretty good deal too. I think I paid about $20 when it began surfacing.
I use the station liners sometimes when I do mix CDs.
I was actually thinking of parting with my In The Mood/What You're Doing Canadian 45
It's not the Moon single obviously, but I think it's the first Canadian Mercury single.

Nice cover. I'll need good luck to find this and the others from this album.

This pops up from time to time.
There's also one from Chicago in 1981 I believe that they tried to synch up with the audio from that show. Great stuff.

The Weapon
in Rush
Every time I watch the GuP video, I start off watching the Weapon just kind of thinking that it is an ok song. When Alex kicks in at the end, though, the song goes to a whole other level. What a great, emotionally moving solo. It makes the song.
Does anyone else feel this way about the song?
Nope. Always loved this song and that version is probably my favorite. That whole DVD is nothing short of awesome.

Nice. I wonder if there's anything on the back....

Looks great! I guess it goes with the bar stools
No way it would replace my framed Vapor Trails litho though.

I didn't know this was out. I still only have the generic Headlong Flight single.
I only just completed my Snakes And Arrows promo single collection last year.
They keep getting harder and harder to find.

I guess it would have sucked for people who liked '70s Rush to see the Grace Under Pressure tour as only Finding My Way/In The Mood, The Temples of Sryinx and Closer To The Heart were played.
That's a little less than 10 minutes of a 100 minute show.
Fortunately for me, that is among my favorite tours.

I thought long and hard about that Tourbook collection.
If I didn't have everything except the 2112 program already, I might have taken the plunge.
Have you posted those before Chris? I remember seeing them somewhere. They remain spectacular.

As I've been saying all along, if there is an R40 tour it won't be in 2014.
