Whoever it is that puts those releases together. It sure as hell isn't Ged and Al.
That's exactly what I mean. Hugh Syme is pretty much the only guy who still cares at this point and he did his job.

Those p/g songs sure do sound good with the Rickey and Jazz basses.
I'm impressed that he got so close to the overall sound of the album without having access to all the vintage equipment. Or even samples/replicas in modern VSTs..Definitely done with care. He gets it.

There was someone over at the Steve Hoffman forum a while back who claimed he worked on the Beyond the Lighted Stage doc and saw the film cans for ESL in a warehouse, but I don't know how credible he was, and I've never seen any other information from anyone who would know, one way or the other. Until solid information to the contrary emerges, I choose to believe the original negatives still exist...
They may exist but are they usable?

Have to admit that I laugh every time I read someone complain that something got pulled off of a streaming service or that the version on there isn't correct.

Does anyone think the management company has gotten the message about that shitshow release yet?

The 4.8 this morning and the aftershock were bout 1/2 mile from each other. Under some guys farm, and under a small lake/pond.
Funny thing is that I know the place. I used to play hookey from work in the Warren, NJ are early last decade - used to jsst go out wandering and exploing the back roads of central, NJ. I went back to my notebook to be sure...drove past both those places May 30, 2014.Felt the major aftershock about 6 p.m. home that night. Windows rattled a bit and it sounded like a big truck going by (not the earlier train) Still didn't really feel anything.

Obviously Neil was an extraordinary drummer, no question. I actually think that Neil's playing from a purely technical standpoint got better as he went on. Like, the last tour solo he played the waltz thing with his feet (I can't remember if that was R40 or not...) he was able to do pretty much anything over it with his hands...really impressive independence. From a musical standpoint, however, and this is purely subjective, I find it super boring and would exponentially rather listen to the ESL drum solo over any of the 2000 - 2010 solos...
I think watching footage from R40 (and I did see the show live, too) and then footage from the GUP tour or the ESL video...he just has an intention behind his playing that feels different. Again, it's personal taste and opinion, but that thing he said about every show being the measure of one's ability and esteem (or something like that), I feel that when I watch Xanadu on ESL. I don't feel it on R40. And of course, he doesn't have to prove himself at that point...and some song from 1977 doesn't challenge him in the way working out some technique thing in his solo does. But then it opens up the larger question of why play old material that doesn't inspire you any more (if that was indeed the case), and the answers are complex and multifaceted, and to a large extent involve the fact that your job is being an entertainer. Rush always expressed how the did not compromise when it came to what they chose to play or not play, but I just got the feeling his heart wasn't in it so much on that last tour.
That's pretty much why I liked the first set of R40 a lot more than the second set. Aside from a few songs the second set kind of bored me.

He needs to do the whole catalog including the live albums.

I sent a message to someone at Anthem about this and this was their reply: "I can tell you its certainly on my list of hopeful "to do"."
Doesn't sound like anything has been done regarding GUP.
Thoughts?
Have to figure Pegi passing at least delayed it and that's the best case scenario.
I'd be happy with he straight 2015 CD remaster. Not exactly spending any time thinking about it at this point. A new Envy Of None CD would be nice though.

Nobody appreciates this ? wow! It's one of the most amazing live performances I've ever seen. Please try and watch through it, it's mesmerizing.
The music speaks for itself.
Now motivated for some Paul Bielatowicz

I want as much live stuff as I can get too, but the constant portrayal of them choosing not to give us live stuff on the Signals box set or to claim they're "at fault" or "to blame" is just weird to me. There was some live stuff with every single previous box set so there's no reason to think they wouldn't have included it if it existed and there has never even been a hint of anything multitrack recorded or filmed on the Signals tour. It was on my mind as soon as the MP box set was out, that if they continued the Signals one would be bare because there's no live stuff to speak of. It would have been a (very pleasant) shock to me if there was any. Hell, even the Wandering the Face of the Earth book identifies tons of specific shows that were recorded or filmed, but nothing noted at all on the Signals tour. The only way anyone could use the words blame or fault would be to say they should have known in 1982 that they'd be making 40th anniversary box sets.
A soundboard would have been nice but perhaps the tempo was an issue.

There is a difference between closure of Rush as a touring/material creating entity and my journey/love of the material that they created for over 40 years. The former may have occurred but the latter will live on indefinitely for me.
It's an embarrassment of riches that I continue to celebrate. Nothing has changed for me there.

My first major earthquake. Heard it, but really didn't feel much. Heard the major after shock about 8 hours later too. Slight window vibrations like a truck was going by. Could have been more than 20 seconds. Quake itself was about a minute. Dog allegedly slept through the first one and didn't really notice the major aftershock. So much for early warning systems. 100 year event here right on a major fault. Quakes are more violent on the west coast supposedly.

RIP Pegi. A huge part of Rush's history, and a name we heard a lot when we first opened this board almost 20 years ago.
Very sad. HUGE loss. Didn't realize she was ill.

I've been going into shows since Test For Echo thinking it was the final tour. I knew Clockwork Angels was the final tour (and for Neil at least it was.) R40 for me was kind of a coda. I was fine with it being the end, but it was clear Geddy wasn't soon after. (It did break the recent trend of at least two tour legs and there were definitely some wires crossed.) The emotions are still raw in the Time Stand Still doc. That said, the bass book tour was my opportunity to say "thank you." The memoir tour was kind of a celebratory thing so it felt really good to experience that and it was therapeutic for anyone that needed it.

Got my poster this week—signed in silver paint (looked white in the photo, so bonus!). Got one that isn’t damaged significantly either—tiny crease on one corner.
Nice. All three signatures?

For the big wallet crowd—it has already been live over an hour but last I peeked there were still a couple of signed posters available (very pricey though, because Neil signed them too) and the always present never sold out ridiculously expensive framed piece with used strings and a used drum stick.
Did they stop sending emails? i never got one (not that it mattered because I wouldn't have had time to even think about it.) I am curious as to what they might have been on the slight chance there was something I need to have. Sounds like even if there was it might be beyond my budget.

I bought one of these at Best Buy when the DVD was released. Package also contained a "distressed" Moving Pictures Tour 1981 T-shirt.
Did anyone else, or did any other "editions" exist?
I bought the regular edition because I didn't like the T-shirt design. i only bought the Rush Best Buy releases when their was exclusive music such as ReplayX3 when they added 2 audio tracks each from the Exit...Stage Left and A Show Of Hands DVDs..
Later on I did buy the Canadian metal box version because I thought the metal box looked cool.
