Both concerts were filmed, but there was no mention from Geddy about it.

In the US, they've always had a couple cameras up front and a couple at the board for the rear screen videos. Were there more cameras than that? (camera on a crane, some on stage, etc.??)

  2. I much enjoyed the fragrance at the shows. Certainly I prefer it to cigs, obnoxious drunks, or stupid 20-something f*cks talking on their cell phones during the show... smile.gif

On a related note, as a parent of 3 boys (too young for a Rush show still) I wondered how many parents were having discussions with their kids after seeing "A Passage to Bankok" as the S&A encore. It ain't about trains, you know. smile.gif

  3. Cool! It looks like I was exactly two rows behind you, but a little closer to the center aisle. In fact, I think I'm in one of your crowd photos, but it's hard to make out my face. Anyway, I took a few pictures too, but I think you have a better zoom. But I did catch the pyro pretty well.

I had nearly identical seats to West Palm the next night. Great weekend!

  4. Got this in the mail today. They didn't use the silver sharpie I sent, but I could care less. This is freakin' cool of them! I sent it to Atlanta for the 9/29 show. Got it back today (10/4) A great way to top off a weekend of seeing them (Tampa & West Palm) !!

  5. It was a fun show, but I have to say Tampa was just a hair better.

A couple things I don't agree with you on however, in my section at least (section 1 about 12-16 rows back) the crowd was very subdued. Lots of head bobbing and air drumming. In Tampa (almost the same seats) people were dancing and jumping.

Also, low points? TCE and change to CTTH were awesome for me. If I had to choose a low point, I would say Stick it Out.

  6. I was thinking of sending a MP CD cover (I have duplicates) since that would be fitting for this tour (My MP album is almost 30 years old, in poor shape, and prized because it was my first Rush LP - I didn't want to risk sending it.)

For the MP Cd, I was thinking of sending a silver sharpie (fine tip) because the silver will show up better on the dark cover. My concern is smudging / smearing but I guess that can happen with any sharpie. It seems they have taken care to let things dry just a second.

    Any thoughts on the pen?

  7. I wonder where this edit is in the song - it sorta starts with a chorus like section, and then a long chord at the end - like it's the end of the song.

Is this a chop job? or just 45 seconds from the end of the song?

Anyway, it sounds like this is going to rock!!!

  8. I've heard about "Tough Break" but I wonder if this is the same thing - since the copyright is listed as "White Flag." It does indicate that the work was submitted on Cassette Tape. Thus, it must have been recorded and there is at least one copy out there

They were working from the original concert tapes.  From rush.com:

Each DVD features new 5.1 surround sound and stereo mixes created by guitarist Alex Lifeson and Mike Fraser from the original concert multi-tracks as well as digitally transferred and remastered visuals.

Ahh, that explains how they could affect individual instruments in the mix.

It's strange how something like a mix can become so engrained in your memory that when there are changes it stands right out. Anyway, I like the result!

  10. I just got through listening to the "bonus" CD from the replay set - it ROCKS! Based on my recollection of the original recordings (I've got the old VHS and various CD rips of that), I've noticed some changes to the overall mix. It doesn't surprise me that Alex made some changes, I just find it interesting what those changes might have been. I also wonder how he made some of these changes, as I'm not sure he had the individual tracks to work with (more likely working with a stereo master? Lots of EQ, some compression, etc.) Anyway, some changes that stood out to me:

1.) The Weapon - during the middle guitar solo, the synths are brought way down and it really highlights the guitar (which is kicking major ass at this point!) The synths on the original did seem overbearing at times, but I particularly recall them "covering" this solo. This appears to be remedied!

2.) New World Man - I believe the guitar has actually been brought down in the mix. I recall the original had alot of "pick noise" at the first verse and bridge. This seems to have gone away with the lower guitar mix.

3.) Distant Early Warning - The keyboards seem to have been significantly lowered from the original. I didn't recall them being so low - the guitar is just wailing out the main riff and you can bearly make out Keys in there.

and from the Best Buy bonus tracks:

1.) Limelight and CTTH from ESL sounded AWESOME! I can't wait to watch the video. These appear to have been significantly improved in the new mix! (at least over my 22 year old VHS!)

2.) Tom Sawyer from ASOH - at the very end, in the video, Alex breaks his strings and the last couple chords are severely out of tune. On this CD track, you can hear Al messing with the strings, but the final guitar chords are absent. A little clean up job!
