QUOTE (Rolinda Bonz @ Dec 4 2004, 05:01 PM) Has anyone mentioned the inhale during Bangkok at 1:50...sounds like someone cashin a one-hitter...er, so I'm told. Oh I've GOT to give that a listen.

I may get smacked around for this, but they have yet to come close to Indy 1. The other 2 just didn't cut it. 2 was a train wreck, imo.

QUOTE (Slaine mac Roth @ Dec 3 2004, 12:32 PM) Listening to Natural Science today (first time for a while) I was struck by the vocal effects used during Hyperspace. For the 'Quantum leap forward' verse there's a sort of reverse echo effect used which I think is a fnatastic treatment for a vocal track (I don't know what the proper term for it is). Later, during the 'Computerised clinic' verse, if you listen carefully, you can hear a strange 1970s Science-Fiction computer sound that I love as well. VERY COOL. I love both of those effects. Excellent entry, bro! Thank you.

QUOTE (RushGuru @ Dec 2 2004, 04:45 PM) its kinda obvious, but i love in freewill after "you can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill" neil hits that splash cymbal twice. it goes perfect. Works for me.

QUOTE (Drumnut @ Dec 2 2004, 12:40 PM) QUOTE (Slaine mac Roth @ Dec 2 2004, 09:28 AM) QUOTE (Drumnut @ Dec 2 2004, 08:12 AM) Off the top of my head, the piano at the end of "The Spirit of Radio." I can't hear it on any live albums but you can hear it on PeW. I remeber hearing it at Wembley this year. Plus it may be audible on one of my R30 boots. They didn't play Freewill this year, did they? (R30) No. The did not have that on the playlist for R30.

QUOTE (Digital Man @ Dec 1 2004, 04:46 PM) Two of my favorite underrated songs are: Avaliable Light (the ?snare? drum, I'm sure it's some other kind of drum. I have no clue) anyways when it hits it is just so sharp. Hand Over Fist, this one just gets to me every time. There is a really cool part in the middle with a deep rumbling that just makes the windows rattle. I'm sure whoever knows what kind of drum is in Avaliable light will also knows what makes this sound. Available Light is one of my oldest favs!!! and Hand Over Fist is my wife's favorite. It's why I had that avatar for as long as I did. Presto is such an awesome album. I have to add one. To this day, it's one of the greatest Rush songs, imo. Chain Lightning. Each instrument is it's own masterpiece on this song. I can isolate any part of that song and hear nothing else. It's just awesome.

QUOTE (NeilPeartFan2112 @ Dec 1 2004, 04:30 PM) I actually thinnk Analog Kid is underrated. A lot of people don't even mention it. It has really good lyrics and the music goes along well with it. I think it's one of the most underrated. You know, I look at that one a bit differently. As though it's an embedded classic that needs no mention. Great song!!

QUOTE (Cato76 @ Dec 1 2004, 03:18 PM) I've always thought Animate was an underrated song. It's great off the cd plus the live version of it on Different Strings is great too. I also saw them play it live in Sacramento and still remember how great it was there too. The live version from DS is one of the best live tracks there is. Animate is an amazing tune!!

QUOTE (paganoman @ Nov 26 2004, 10:40 PM) Totem - during the 2nd chorus in parallel with Geddy singing the word Monsters.... there is this twang sound in the background. Listen carefully for it. (2.27) Secret Touch - at precisely 4:00, have your balance all the way on the Left channel. Awesome little slide sound from what I think is the guitar. Roll The Bones - During the final chorus, has anyone ever noticed the 'skeleton' saying "Because we're here" along with the vocals? You have to listen really hard, but it's there. It's the same "Because we're here" that blares out at the end of the live version. It's actually easier to make out as the music is fading. Red Sector A - At 3:51-4:00 listen to the keyboards as the music is entering the last chorus. Take special notice at 3:58. The awesome drum fill (which is one of my favs from Neil) sort of hides the keyboards here. They are awesome!!! Here are some others: Driven - During the last verse, Neil accentuates the moment with this double hit to one of his splash cymbals. It's always been the highlight of the song for me. Found at 3.21.Time Stand Still - The band goes into this energy charged drive leading into the final vocals. With the music are some sound effects I go crazy over. At 3.07 there is this ghostly, yet angelic keyboard effect that comes out of nowhere and builds louder and louder. YES!!Time Stand Still - same section of music. A percussion sound effect at 3.11. There's a rac-a-tac-a-tac-a-tac sound just before Neil's snare fill. YES!!!!!! THE BEST!!Limelight - Best part of the song, imo. - At the end of Alex's solo he starts plucking the rhythm which leads into the last chorus. However, there are these last few lead notes. He hits that final note, and grabs that twang bar thing on this guitar and holds that bad boy for the next 18 seconds, right behind Geddy's vocal. It's the greatest thing I think I've ever heard. 3.12Half The World - I don't know how to explain this one (and I play drums). Neil and Geddy do this bass/drum triplet thing leading into Alex's Mandolin solo. Listen to how Neil changes the order in which he hits his snare. So subtle, yet GENIUS!! 2.28Stick It Out - Another subtle moment of genius. During the 2nd verse, listen to that rude bell ride that Neil is doing, just when Geddy is singing "Moment of crisis". He changes the downbeat ride just for those 4 counts. Stuff like that just sets me off!!! Ok so I must ask... is anyone trying to give these a listen? It's the subtle little moments and little sound effects that gets me to jump out of my skin!! Such an adrenlaline surge!! Test for echo..... anyone out there?? oneone??

QUOTE (Proggy @ Nov 25 2004, 05:26 PM)Half The World I'm glad someone (not oneone) mentioned Half The World. Thank you Proggy. This song, imo, is friggin' incredible - and it never gets mentioned. It was played live for the T4E tour, then shelved. Sad, very sad. The wide open sound of that guitar and steady beat make you feel like you can dance on water. And the lyric..... "Half the world tries to be the other half" What an amazing line. I can't think of a better way to express the Keep up with the Jone's/Grass is Greener mentality (which I despise). Half The World is a heavy hitter amongst Rush songs. It stands strong for me. Always has, always will. I will happily get off BSG's soap box now. Thank you

She came in and asked what was going on,, I told her we were watching the news and tokio was being attacked, She was probably 85 at the time and believed me. QUOTE (Hero of Nobody @ Nov 30 2004, 12:45 PM) My first gig ever (I was 16 or so), at a club in NY called February's. What a dump. Anyway, we did mostly covers, but one original tune. The tune ended with a long roll across the toms, which would lead to a solo in practice sessions. A bunch of my friends and family were there, so they start chating "SOLO!". The band shrugged, so I went for it. About mid-way through the solo, I used to do this thing with triplets on the kicks and rotos, and toss my free stick up, catch it, and go into some snare rudiments. Instead of catching it, the stick broke a light above my head, and tripped the breaker. The owner reset the breaker, cut our set short, and charged me the broken light. Creep. That's bringing the house down, eh??? Great story!!

QUOTE (Indica @ Nov 30 2004, 07:38 AM) I got into a little argument one day with the drummer in the band I was playing in one time and I end up saying to him "You just sit back there and hit sh*t and we will do all the talented stuff" I was just joking and just wanted to tick him off a little bit so maybe he would stop arguing, and it worked. ahahahahah. Everytime I talk to the bass player that was in that band, he always brings this up and we laugh about it......I doubt Alex says this to Neil but it would be funny to see the look on his face if he did. Hey that's great Indy. I would love to be the drummer in a band you're in.

QUOTE (NeilPeartFan2112 @ Nov 29 2004, 10:25 PM) QUOTE (Big T @ Nov 29 2004, 09:38 PM) I have a hard time paying big money movie theater cost to see an animated film. Not that they're not worth seeing, just that I want more for my money, and that's with real people. I personally think that it's insane that the regular movies cost so much these days. What is it, around $7.00 just to get a ticket? And then if you want snacks... oh man, you better have brought your Mastercard. For 2 adults and 3 kids it cost us almost $50.00. That's with 2 popcorns, 2 sodas, and 1 box of Raisinettes (for Daddy).

QUOTE (My_Shrimp_Cot @ Nov 29 2004, 12:41 PM) QUOTE (Sweetmiracle @ Nov 29 2004, 12:06 PM) On instrumentals Neil gets credit for writing the music... I think that it's all just a convention for them to give credit in the usual way because it keeps arguments down. We all know that they all contribute to the music, and Geddy edits Neil's lyrics. It wouldn't be shocking to find that Alex occasionally make an editorial comment on lyrics. So the credits are just generalizations.... Dammit, I was hoping to start a fight... Freaking educated level-headed pacifists always getting in the way It's all an evil plot, I tell you!!! For the man to keep the drummers down!!! in thier place!! what about a good drummer who can't write lyrics! what does he/she get credit for?? nada zilch nothing!!! You can't cash a generalization at the bank!! Zoinks!! Foiled again!!
