  1. Thanks guys - it was me that asked. I'd tried the Mike Portnoy forums but it didn't seem terribly active (at least not with threads that seemed that important) - the other one seems to be active though - I'll check it out.
  2. QUOTE (Snowman @ Jan 12 2007, 12:38 PM) "A change of season" are very good. Probably because it is from the Kevin Moore era of DT. I believe Derek Sherinian played on "A Change Of Seasons"
  3. Does anyone know any decent (and ACTIVE) DT forums? I've found one or two but most of them seem pretty dead. Any recommendations?
  4. A Change of Seasons. Some nice cover versions, performed live - and a 20-odd minute epis of original material. You should be able to pick it up pretty cheaply too as it was classified as an EP (though in fact is longer than some regular albums I've heard)
  5. I am one of those that doesn't get this whole "wank-fest" accusation - particularly from die-hard Rush fans. Have you listened to La Villa Strangiato recently? (LVS is my favourite Rush tune BTW so no criticism of them implied)
  6. Two dead people get married. They decide that they need some kind of code to decide when they are both in the mood for sex. After much complex sign-language and writing of messages, he decides on the following rules: "When I want to make love I will gently stroke your right breast". "If the answer is YES, pull gently on my penis once" "If the answer is NO, pull gently on my penis 150 times"
  7. QUOTE (Arndrake @ Mar 22 2006, 08:16 AM) Cacaphony and anger Submerge the soul All neurons are rended Sound and fury Drown my heart Every nerve Is *shrieks* torn apart *end shriek* Cygnus X-1 (The Voyage) Give this one a go... "When the period between nascence and termination, Approaches a situation comparable to a wasteland and frigid seasonal atmospherica conditions, There may be a navigational aid helping the absense of light, In two faraway human optical receptors"
  8. I think we need a clue for this one!
  9. Nice work Slaine - I'm still thinking about this next one
  10. Bumping the current one ... "Ambulate along a thoroughfare named after a glossy magazine, Recollections Avenue abounds, The heart of the Big Apple financial district drags its feet as it moves towards it, Clad in flowing filamentous growth"
  11. QUOTE (BassUnderPressure @ Mar 17 2006, 10:06 AM) ghosts are moving in a hostile purpose dreams are getting vaporized Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire From "Mission" Try this one.... "Ambulate along a thoroughfare named after a glossy magazine, Recollections Avenue abounds, The heart of the Big Apple financial district drags its feet as it moves towards it, Clad in flowing filamentous growth"
  12. You got it - 'cept you forgot to give the title Your turn next!
  13. I stand atop a spiral stair An oracle confronts me there 2112 - Oracle: The Dream Try this one ... "They proceed in the era of fortune-tellers, following a road through a land of less than arable qualities to the blood pump of a stellar mass, Compared to Casanovas and idols, and the unsettled component of the entirity, All of us are merely confined to barracks at the time that we are ambulating faster than a walk"
  14. I sent Moonraker a PM back in December about starting a non-Rush version of this thread (back while Slaine was still running the Rush version) - never got a reply
  15. QUOTE (rickyrob @ Feb 24 2006, 12:54 PM) Dreamline, I'm interested. thing is, I was the only one playing it in round two when Slaine took over. I would like to see it altered a little...and my idea is: 1. Make the clips a bit longer - perhaps 1.25 or 1.5 seconds instead of 0.75s to make it a bit easier to identify the clips. 2. The clips used to be picked randomly - i.e. the organiser would choose a song and a randomly chosen 0.75s clip would be used. Problem comes when that clip is just 0.75s of complete silence, which has happened on a couple of occasions in the past. People give up if its too difficult. 3. Set each round for say, one week. Make it just one guess per person. However many are correct is how many points that person gets...then set a league table up with the points scored. Set a target of say, the first person to reach 50 points is the winner. We used to have prizes for this game Well I had no idea the comp was that unsubscribed. I only played in the last round but it seemed as if there were a few people playing it. I understand what you are saying about the difficulty - but given the rules as they stand (stood?) it seemed to be fair enough - everyone was learning off everyone else's guesses. I could certainly stretch to 1.5 secs per clip instead of .75sec but would that make it too easy? I certainly wouldn't use random segments from a song - I would choose segments that IMO were identifiable - but only if you knew your stuff! I'm not keen on the idea of only one set of guesses per person - as those answering later would get clues from the earlier guesses - if a timelimit of (say) 5 days was set, everyone would wait for 4.5 days to see what everyone else was guessing! I kinda like the rules the way they were (in that respect anyway) I have a montage prepared of non-Rush songs that *I* think is fairly easy. I don't know if I have a copy here at home or if it is at my place of work - I may post that one when I find it just to test the waters - I'd ideally like to bring back the Rush themed quiz but as I have this one already prepared (that I ran on another message board) I may go with that first to see who is interested. If the management/moderators have no objection I'd like to post that one here in the Rush-themed forum, just to get people interested - then I'd make another Rush-based one that fits into this forum better. Can someone in a position of authority give me the OK to post that here to test the water? I promise if it is successful, the next one will be Rush-themed - I don't really want to switch forums half way through.
  16. I don't know exactly how soon I could manage this - but would anyone be interested if I were to take up the reins to bring this contest back? Managers? Moderators? Opinions?
  17. I hope you will post LONG reviews here for us jealous fans - piccies would be nice too!
  18. QUOTE (Slaine mac Roth @ Dec 3 2005, 12:59 AM) Round three to follow soon. How soon?
  19. I admit I didn't make it terribly clear that this whole thing involved both Rush AND DT. A simple request for clarification would have sufficed. N/M apology accepted.
  20. I've spoken out here already. I still prefer Rush OVERALL to DT. But Scenes From A Memory is possibly the most perfect album ever made - by anybody! 70-odd minutes of musical perfection.
  21. QUOTE (PuppetKing2112 @ Dec 9 2005, 11:53 PM) And they play these songs exactly like the originals. Sure, it's impressive that they can recreate those, but what makes a cover great is when they make it somehow their own, and Dream Theater fails to do that, instead recreating what has already been done exactly. Someone hasn't listened to Change of Seasons as closely as they claim. It's well known amongst Deep Purple fans that the song Perfect Strangers is about the only Blackmore-era tune that doesn't really feature a guitar solo - yet on the DT cover there is an extended solo from John Petrucci. Exactly like the original? I don't think so.
