Did you understand any of it? When the Sting version came out, even Dune readers struggled with the plot.
Full disclosure: I saw the Sting version as a teenager, liked it well enough, decided to read the book, hated the book, forgot most of it right away. I know people are whining the new films don't stick closely enough to the books (What? No Spice Guild?!?!), but the films work fine as a straightforward fight between two rich families. "Spice" could just as easily be gold, or oil, or unobtanium, whatever. It's a classic "rise to power" story, and all the background mythology is moot, as far as this viewer is concerned. Whenever they started spouting off about the Kwisatz Haderach (sp., definitely), my brain did the Homer Simpson thing where I'm imagining bears riding in little Shriners' cars. I was just waiting for more shots of spaceships taking off and landing, more BWAAANNNGGGGHHHHH from the soundtrack.

Well at first you're thinking ok Jeff Bridges is the Old Man, but then you're thinking maybe it's John Lithgow, and then later you're thinking it must be Joel Grey. Then the name that everything seems to revolve around, Hamzad, is he really the Old Man? In reality they're all The Old Man, especially if you think of the Old Man as someone's dad. The daughter starts off as a peripheral figure, just a voice on the phone that we never expect to see, then later she becomes a more integral part of the story. And in the end it's the daughter that the whole story seems to revolve around after all, not the Jeff Bridges character or Hamzad or the John Lithgow guy.
***SPOILERS AHEAD****
SpoilerI guess the thing that "bothered" me -- from a narrative standpoint -- is that the bad guy won. That's not really that unusual, exactly, but we have the daughter character, seemingly devoted to Bridges, seemingly a basically modern, western woman deciding (did she decide? was she a hostage?) to go live with her fundamentalist father in the mountains of some god-forsaken war zone. It made no sense. Further, the Amy Brennaman character was important, then wasn't. How'd she get home from the international terrorist banking conference? Does she have a fake passport now?
I know this story comes from some pretty successful books, but it felt to me -- as a non-book reader -- that they were making it up as they went along.

Here's what I was prepared to type, before I got distracted: "GCU? Over the team that beat Gonzaga twice and won its conference tournament?"
Huh.

Tough to beat any team that scores fifteen 3-pters on you. And they weren't easy shots
I'm still not sure how that happened. That Gohlke guy had the ugliest shot -- he looked like he was always off-balance and chucking the ball from between his wrists, rather than his palms (you know the kind of thrusting forward action I mean, more of a push than a throw?), and I'll be damned if most of them didn't go in. Unbelievable.

Gawd, how I hate Man Utd. I can't be the only person who thinks Garnacho looks like he ought to be punched in the face.

Cracovia 2 Widzew 2 Rakoczy salvages a point in the 90th minute. Classy behavior in the stands. Giant painting, covering a few sections, of a Cracovia fan with a knife in one hand and Wisla supporter's severed head in the other.
Aren't Cracovia and Wisla the two teams you support? Are they also rivals? So you are serious about liking the Red Wings? This changes everything!!!!

So without Pollard, our running game will feature . . . who, exactly? More pressure on Dak performing out of his head.

If Liverpool doesn't win the title, who would you rather see at the top, Man City or Arsenal?
Oooh. Is "gouge my eyes out" an option? I loathe Arsenal, but I hate monotony more, so give me the Arse.

Guitar riffs battle: Page vs. Lifeson?

From the perspective of pure riffage, I'm going with Page. So many great riffs in a pretty short creative peak.
