    Sucks ass Chicago's on a tuesday.  Looks like my girlfriend and I will be doing NYC/Philly/Boston.  Should be fun!

    AWESOME!!!

    I'm going to get to see them.

  2. The chord progression on Insurgentes is very similar to Sarah Mclachlan's "Possession" and Missy Higgins' "Where I stood". I don't hear a familiar melody.

    I think it's beautiful.

    What really impresses me about the recording is how f***ing good the music sounds. The production is really outstanding.

    Steven Wilson is an incredible talent.

  3. I have been using a Boss GT-8 for over a year now. It's a very complicated piece of gear but you can get good sounds out of it Note, I said good, not great.

    Generally an all tube amp sounds better. If you want versatility and the ability to sound almost like a Marshall, or a boogie, or a H&K etc then a modeler is the way to go.

    A couple of things sold me on the GT-8. First, it does lightning fast patch changes. Other mfx units I looked at had a noticeable delay in changing patches. I'm told the G Major has that issue too but I've never even seen one, let alone played with one.

    The other thing is the bossgtcentral forum. Lots of good info on how to make the GT8 and now the GT10 sound good. Patches too. A midi interface is essential with the 8.

  4. I've posted this before but I guess I'll repeat myself.

    I think it is much smarter to buy a quality used instrument in your price range than to spend the same amount of money on a new one.

    If you decide to sell your guitar at a later date chances are you can get pretty close to what you paid for it. Naturally you have to figure out what you want and the average dollars they sell for so you won't get ripped off. Check craigslist and ebay for pricing.

    I would never buy a guitar off ebay or any other internet store. I need to inspect and play it myself. If you don't know much about inspecting guitars take it to a local pro and have them evaluate it before you buy. Or make sure the store will give you a 30 day money back guarantee.

    If I haven't convinced you yet, read this thread.

    They bought a brand new guitar for $2500.00 and are having a hard time getting $1800 for it now. OUCH!

    I don't know what qualifies a guitar as being a good shredder as opposed to just being a good guitar. I guess you want a Solid body with humbuckers and a locking tremolo like a Floyd Rose. Buckethead shreds like a maniac and he uses a Gibson Les Paul without a whammy bar.

    This is a good resource for guitar reviews:

    Good luck.

  5. I was looking at an ad for the Hughes & Kettner Alex Lifeson signature model amp and cabinet.

    I noticed when I saw Rush here on June 1 that were no microphones in front of his Wall 'o' amps.

    Does he use a speaker simulator like Geddy? How does he get his live sound?

  6. I hear it as this

    ||--------|----------------|-----------------------|

    ||--------|----------------|---------------5-------|

    ||--------|------------5-7|------------------7----|

    ||----12\|0-3--0h5h7---|-0-0-3-0h5h7-----7\-|

    Where you let go of the G, hit the open E and hammer on the AB.

    But I usually play things wrong anyway wink.gif

  7. The first song I learned on guitar ever was "In the End"

    It was 1979. I was 15 years old and bought a piece of shit acoustic guitar for $5.00

    I knew something about music because I'd played clarinet in the school band for a few years. I had a Mel Bay chord book and was able to figure out the roots of the chords, D, G, F, C

    I found the chords in the book and sure enough it sounded like it.

  8. Sounds good.

    I'm listening to Spirit right now. I like the Pink Floyd vibe it has. My opinion is that the bass part is a little busy compared to the other instruments. I like your tone and I can definitely hear the Geddy influence in your playing. The chord change at about 3:00 is a little jarring to the ear.

    Hope I'm not overly critical - if I didn't like it I wouldn't have said anything.

    Keep up the good work!
