  1. Interesting how both sides, Sab and Ozzy, put out a couple of fantastic records post-spilt. Then went back to the 7.5 zone. Mediocre, but carrying on. For 30 years. .. LOL.

I do like Born Again! But then again I do love Ian Gillan.

True. Great record. He did a hell of a job singing both Dio and Ozzy live.

  2. I like Dio era Sabbath better than Ozzy Sabbath. It's like a different band - more focused and modern.

It's not that i don't like old Sabbath, it's great. Just think Mark II fits better with the type of music I like.

Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules are my favorite Sabbath albums.

Dio-era Sabbath is one of the reasons I think Ozzy Osbourne is among the most overrated Rock stars of all-time. Ozzy-era Sabbath was groundbreaking, original and inspired. I just don't think Ozzy was as integral to it as some fans think.

Ozzy is mostly built on his crazy reputation if you ask me. also Great vocals for what they were doing but not necessarily a great vocalist........if that makes sense, lol

    Mick

But back then when he first split from Sabbath, he wasn't so much known for his crazy antics. He was just the singer from Sabbath, who then put our 2 of the greatest Metal Albums ever. IMHO. The crazy shit started to happen in parallel to those records. At least that's how I remember it.

I mean don't get me wrong, the news of him splitting from Sab was a huge deal, even in that pre-internet age. But that was the extent of the vibe. The fact that he quit - and supposedly had a huge fight with Iommi.

    I remember those years!

BUT, how much for those albums goes to Randy Rhoads? As I remember it, fans were absolutely nuts over Randy Rhoads. Another reason for me believing Ozzy is very overrated.

    Good point.

Half and half, I'd say. Becasue as great as Randy was, he may well never have gotten the exposure and guidance he got from Ozzy and Sharon. Likewise, those would have been just so-so metal albums with any other guitar player.

Today Randy might have just been a fantastic guitar teacher in CA. After a run with Quiet Riot?

Sort of how the 2 Sab albums would have been so-so without Dio.

    IMHO.

  3. Look in the mirror, tell me what do you see. Can you lie to yourself like you're lying to me?

Do you fall asleep real easy feeling justified and right, or do you wake up feelin' empty in the middle of the night.

Love Triumph. Absolutely. 30+ years later. Still have them in rotation.... hell, just listened to Spellbound, Rock Out Roll On , and Time Goes By from T7 last night.

Going to see Rik play Saturday night. My 4th time with him. :)

  5. I don't think Axl can pull of the material without sounding too much like Axl. He's no Brian and he's no Bonn. At least Brian was able to do a very good job with Bonn's songs.Plus he's a voice we've heard for > 35 years. We know him as an integral part of the sound.

This sort of reminds me of Boston replacing Brad Delp with the guy Scholtz found on You Tube... kind of lame. To go further with it, same tour Michale Sweet from Stryper was there too. Who I have a lot of respect for, but he's no Brad Delp. So those performances and the vibe were kind of underwhelming.

What's Angus really supposed to do here? He needs a decent name to finish off the tour . 1/10th of his fans know who Airbourne is.... as much as that guy would have been a perfect fit - I think most fans would say "who's this guy"? No buzz.

But I think that's the problem, right there. No buzz. I suppose the ACDC machine isn't interested in working too hard to create a buzz with a young capable talent. They want to , I think, coast over the finish line with as little effort as po$$ible.

  6. Listening to the new Tiles record for the first time, right now. Liking it. Sounds like them, but they've got a different kind of prog thing going on too. A blending of styles... techno, hard/heavy, prog,

The record (which is a double CD) sounds different. Which is nice. I'd dare say that it's a more interesting effort than the latest DT package.

Later today after I'm done with my study, I've got Santana IV queued up.

I didn't realize Cheap Trick had something new.... need to find that for today as well. :)

  7. I remember Trek in it's first run, as a kid. It is my first memory of TV. Shatner's voice, and Nimoy's face.

I was not looking forward to the new series - thought it would be just another Voyager. Ugh.

But the anthology format just might work. My prediction is that there will be a common thread between the seasons(trek eras??), binding them to each other and to the already established canon. So long as they stay away from that godforsaken JJ-Verse.

Yes, I want to see a post-dominion war story. Absolutely. Especially while the TNG/DS9/Voy actors are still around. Let's see.

    Edit:

PS: There hasn't been too much word about the B5 movie and new Galactica series as of late. Hopefully all the new buzz around Sci-Fi lately helps push those along as well.

  8. Whoever you decide to sign up with will probably supply the equipment you need. If you don't plan on streaming video like Apple TV or Amazon Fire, you should be able to get away with 3 to 6 MB/s DSL. Even if you you stream video, HD video can stream over a consistent 10mb connection pretty good.

^^Sounds about right. These days one doesn't need much more bandwidth than that unless they are doing hardcore gaming, or file sharing/hosting.

  9. Time will tell.

    Wasn't Geddy just in California?

So was Alex...bet they were recording.

Hmmm… didn't know Alex was out there as well. This makes me more nervous than optimistic.

It probably went down like this:

:Alex: Hey Neil, Geddy and I are coming to California according to plan.

:geddy: Yeah Pratt. The plan to feign retirement is working. The fans will freak when we hit the road again. Guaranteed sell outs again!

:Neil: Great guys. Remember, I'm not touring again. I told you what my plans were.

    :Alex: Yeah yeah yeah Neil.

:Neil: No. I'm serious this time. I'm DONE! Finito.

:geddy: C'mon Neil. We'll even let you ride your motorcycle again. We won't take away your "fun" license.

    :Neil: Oh alright!

TM, its great to have your comedy back on TRF.

I have been thinking about how Ged would handle this since the end of R40. As Eagle said, probably its just a phone call. But this may be different. They have invested 40 years together, rose to the heights of their industry together.

As flippant as we like to make Neil seem, for him to see his nearly lifelong bandmates write and record with someone else, it may matter to him.

To get a heartfelt soulsearching process, an in person discussion may be appropriate. Geddy seems to be a very thoughtful considerate person, and may want something so important discussed in person. Or he just wanted to see the sun set over the Pacific. Double meaning??

So basically to make sure it's cool with Neil if Ged and Al make some music without him as long as they do not call it Rush?

Why would he care? He has no right to say anything about it. If he's free to retire, then Ged and Lerxst are free to make new music.
