  1. Joining this thread late. When CA came out, I listened to it constantly. Over time, like every album, I have filtered it down to my faves:

    In no particular order.

    CA

    BU2B

    Headlong

    Wreckers

    Anarchist. -my favorite by far.

Anarchist is the song that made me pick up the bass again after 20 years. It's the song that made me feel excited about the band again, after the mess of SNA. Anarchist.... I said on the CA tour that it would be an opener. There you go. The song is pure gold in my opinion..... as of today 657 plays in iTunes. That solo part when Geddy jams on the Taurus Pedals never gets old....

BU2B is right behind it at 548. (I actually like the single version of this song better... the keyboard part in the mix works for me).

But overall CA is a great album, IMHO. The most 'Rush-like' record since CP, and a great comeback after SNA.

  2. I've got a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass. That's probably my prized 'Rush' item. It's my go-to bass by far. (Not so much becasue it's his model... but because it plays so well).

Just typical stuff over the years. Posters, stickers, shirts, I have the tourbook from every tour starting with p/g - show bought. Tickets from each of my 28 shows.

I also have bootlegs from almost every show I've been to. That's a lot of fun. On a couple of them, I can hear myself singing too.... lucky enough to have the taper nearby.

  3. Those little things like the MnMs are out in so the promoter reads the entire contract and nothing gets left out.

Right, like the point about the box from the case of beer being stowed under the table..... It's probably one of the first things the tour manager looks for when he shows up.

  4. This is never easy. But you get through it.

My father died in 2008. We were estranged for close to 20 years, and I didn't find out until 6 weeks later. Even though he was no longer part of my life, I couldn't string a sentence together for a week after I found out. And it still took a good 9 months or so to work it's way out of my system.

All I'm saying is that time helps. For everyone here who's had a loss, you have my condolences.

  5. Chris Pine wearing The Shat's shoes. Does he fill them?

Not even close. Kirk was a get things done kind of guy. Pine's Kirk is a teary eyed little wuss.

I understand that if you have to reboot, you need new actors. How many people have played Superman in 80 years, right?

But at least get the basic character traits down.... in the writing, directing and the acting. The alternate timeline Trek wouldn't be so bad if only the charachters were more like the original portrayals. Even Spock's struggle... it was good to see. But we _KNOW_ that young spock was tougher than what we see in the reboot. I point to the TOS Pilot for that evidence.

  6. Babylon 5 got the short end of the stick. Poor tv scheduling especially. I remember when it first aired they put it on at 1 am. I was lucky to find it.

I know. In NY it was moved around a lot..... but i was worth seeking out. Some of the best sci-fi since TOS.

You guys know that JMS is working on a new version? Not sure if will be reboot or some kind of continuation.

I've been hearing that for years. Is it really happening this time?

    Apparently so.

JMS had given up on the idea for years.... but now it is in the works. If it goes all the way to production, I can't say. But here's some references.

    I for one am excited.

  8. And all the aliens speak perfect English! What's up with that?

A television show should really make more of an effort.

they're not speaking english. the crew hears english because of the universal translator.

The universal translator is a cop-out the writers came up with long after the fact.

Anyway, I was being facetious in response to the original topic of the thread

Star Trek: The Next Generation is one of my all-time favorite television shows.

    I friggin' love Star Trek.

DS9 was the best trek series. great story arc

I agree. It was kind of interesting though, having DS9 and B5 on the air at the same time.

JMS claims papramount stole his idea from the B5 bible he gave them when he was looking for a network to carry the show.

    That's why I mentioned B5. ;)

Think about the similarities... even down to the plot mechanism of a great unknown enemy, and some of the charachter names.

  9.

Actually, I remember when that was all nothing but swampland and Secaucus was nothing but pig farms. :codger:

Hey - I just caught your edit. Yeah, it's still mostly swampland out there in Rutherford. I suspect one day the whole complex will just sink down into the muck. As for Secaucus..... do you think that just becasue it's built up that it's any different from pig farms. :poke: . LOL

  11. Sinatra was playing the arena the night before the scheduled Rush HYF show.

Unbeknowst to us Rush fans. Who cares.... it's Sinatra right?

So the afternoon of the Rush show comes, and i got a call from the gal i was dating at the time... we were to go to the show. She tells me that she heard on the radio that the show was cancelled and would happen the next night.. I thought she was messing with me...but maybe not... Hmmm... So i tune to WNEW 102.7...and about 15 minutes later I heard it for myself.

The Rush show was delayed by 1 night. Becasue Frank Sinatra's show had to be moved. The sheet music for his orchestra wasn't delivered to the show.

    It's true

    http://www.nytimes.c...ast-minute.html

So the next night we show up at the arena, and the Rush show goes on as expected. (Tommy Shaw opened, BTW.. excellent).

Everyone was of course cursing Sinatra in the parking lot and inside. But here's the funny part:

So during his Hello New Jersey banter, Geddy said something like the following: "We're gonna play a song from our new album now...and we don't need sheet music". A nice little dig from polite Geddy.

I saw them the next night at MSG and the thing I noticed was that there were more lights, and more parts to the stage set. I could never find anything official on it, but I think that the production got squeezed for setup time in NJ.... the MSG show definitely had more lights and rigging... sounded a lot better too.

So Lorraine, that is the connection between Sinatra and the HYF tour. :)

PS: I still call it the Brendan Byrne to this day. Just like the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel is really the Garden State Arts Center.

I suspected that the PNC might be what used to be the GSAC. I moved from NJ out here ( :eh: ) in '92. It was still the Garden State Arts Center when I left. I remember when the Meadowlands Race Track and the Byrne Arena were being built. The joke going around at the time was that Jimmy Hoffa's body was in the cement foundation. Maybe it was.

That's an interesting story. Thank you for telling it. :)

    You are welcome.

They renamed the PNC in the mid 90's. I saw Yes there in 92 or 93 and it was the GSAC. The T4E tour rolled through in 97' and it was PNC.

The joke for years as that Hoffa was buried below one of the end zones of Giants Stadium. If it were true though, it would mean that he is now buried under a new parking lot. LOL. Giants Stadium was torn down about 5 years ago, replaced by the New Giants Stadium (Metlife Stadium) built right next to it. Not that Hoffa had anything to do with Frank.... maybe some of Frank's um, associates though. Know what I'm sayin? It's just business..

Which is exactly why we hear Checkov and Scotty's accents. Eh?

    :P

  14. There /was/ that unfortunate incident in The Meadowlands though...... At the Brendan Byrne Arena on the HYF tour,,,,,,

Are you on the right thread? What does Hold Your Fire have to do with Frank?

And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one here that still calls it the Brendan Byrne Arena.

    I'm writing it up now..... you'll see. ;) There's a connection.

  15. He'll never sound as he once did, but he does sound a lot, and I do mean a lot, better than he has the past eight years or so.

SNA Tour. was the last one. I've got a boot from Hershey PA (I was at the show too) and he was spot on. That gig was the 3rd to last show of the second leg.

He seemed different for the TMT tour.... that's when I started to notice.

That's when he had that really bad sinus/viral infection and had to have his ears drained. It's always possible that could've done some damage to his vocal chords. The infection itself, I mean.

Ouch. I didn't know about that. Yeah, I agree --could have done some damage.
