  1. Metallica TONIGHT!

    How was it?

It was so good. I've never seen them before though I've liked him since high school. I went with a meet up group and we had seats way Up high at the stadium. The guy running the group went to customer service and complained about all of the pot smoke around us and apparently he was very polite because he got four tickets in a better section. I got one of them and we removed all the way down to Field level on the side of the stage. So I was about 15 rows from the stage . It was unbelievable.

A lot of other people joined us. That section has not sold out, I think the seats had just been released the day before, so people with obstructed view seats got moved there as well .

And yes of course there was pot smoke everywhere and say what you will but he was very nice about it and it worked LOL.

Great show . They did this really cool drum thing, playing these huge drums I don't know what they're called but it was really neat.

  2. A few of my former band mates play in the Classic Albums Live bands. They do take great effort to be close to the original; but I would have to honestly say that I have heard other tribute bands (perhaps ones that focus on just one band) that are more authentic.

This is a point that really bugs me about the Rush show (at least the one that I saw) : that they use more than 3 people! To me, as a musician, is just a let down. Not to say that what Geddy does isn't significantly difficult, but I have been in bands with and know other bass players that also sing and play keys in Rush tribute bands. For sure, you need a musician with some unique talents. But, to see a band constructed of 4 or even 5 people cover Rush just doesn't feel right to me - I would rather that they did exactly what Rush did - use backing sequences if necessary (trigger them!) but don't add more people! (It's one thing for a band of 4/5 people to cover a Rush song - it's another to put together a Rush specific tribute and then add 4,5 musicians...) That said, there are many different Classic Album Live bands - not sure what the current Rush configuration is.

I saw a YouTube somewhere that said they have nine people .

  3. If I said this elsewhere on the forum forgive me but Geddy's bass just sang to me throughout "Roundabout." And even if I couldn't really hear it p, just see him on stage playing like that was unbelievable . And Alex too. And I was glad to see the HBO broadcast because I was on the side of the stage and it was hard to see Alex in the final jam .

There's some great videos of Rockin' In The Free World out there. Some of them may be posted earlier in this thread.

I'll have to look for them. The HBO one wasn't too bad!

  5. Some of the speeches were edited for final broadcast apparently!

I was there and yes they were. At least you got to hear the last half of Rick Wakeman's speech, the first half was just as funny .

  6. And yes, he did make reference to Neil not being there, but included him in their well wishes to Yes.

it was such a thrill to see them there.

I'm so glad you got to go! From your video, it seems like you had a good view of Geddy from where you were sitting; that's awesome.

I was really high up, only like 5 rows from the top! But pretty much side stage, so I was pretty close, I guess! Not cheap but totally worth it. I'm looking forward to the show when it airs, because while I could totally hear Geddy on Roundabout, it was hard to pick Alex out in the final jam, and my view of the video screen wasn't that great, so on tv it should be easier.

  7. I was lucky enough to get picked for the Sirius Town Hall in November 2015 and I was in the front row, a mere 5 feet, if that, from Alex and Geddy. And I got to ask them a question. It was SO exciting to hear Alex say "hello Laura" ("Lora" in his accent, :D .) they were both so entertaining in the interview, I'm sure you all heard it.

After we got to officially meet them and get a picture. It was very brief, but Alex was just lovely.
