  24. from The Daily Mail Ewan latest Bond favourite after Alfie flop 09:13am 13th November 2004 Ewan could be the next Bond Two Scots actors are leading the race to become the next James Bond after Jude Law's recent box-office flop, bookmakers say. Ewan McGregor is now favourite to follow in the footsteps of the original Bond and fellow Scot Sir Sean Connery at odds of 9/4, according to William Hill. Fellow countryman Dougray Scott, who starred in Mission Impossible II and Enigma, is also being heavily backed and is now second-favourite behind McGregor, at 9/2. But Law's chances now look to be on the wane, after the box office failure of his latest film Alfie resulted in bookies lengthening his odds to 10/1 from 8/1. William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: "We have heard that Ewan McGregor has definitely been contacted or had a screen test whereas a lot of the other names are purely speculation. "Dougray Scott also said that if he was offered the role he would take it." Mr Adams added that the legacy of Sir Sean also had an impact on who they chose to lead the list of potential Bonds. "The public love a Scot," he said. "In the past Connery has come top in people's favourite Bond and that can only help the chances of Ewan McGregor and Dougray Scott." Mr Adams said the poor reception of Alfie had affected Law's chances of clinching the coveted role currently held by Pierce Brosnan. "We think the failure of his last few films is bound to have had a negative effect on his chances of becoming Bond," he said. "Although in the past directors have been happy to cast relative unknowns, they have not cast unpopular actors. "Dougray Scott appears to be Scotland's choice and if he gets the call-up punters will be queuing all over Edinburgh and Glasgow." William Hill's top contenders for the next James Bond are: 9/4 Ewan McGregor, 9/2 Dougray Scott, 6/1 Clive Owen, 7/1 Hugh Jackman, Colin Farrell, 8/1 Ioan Gruffudd, 9/1 Eric Bana, 10/1 Jude Law, Orlando Bloom, Chris Feeney, 20/1 Rupert Everett, Hugh Grant, 25/1 Russell Crowe, 100/1 Robbie Williams, Eminem, 500/1 Boris Johnson. Personally, my favourite is Boris Johnson
