I don't think that would happen, I'm pretty sure he recorded that song with a 5-string Wal. If I remember correctly the only one where he used the 5 string is on Lock And Key...

I will never like this form of ratings. Makes no sense. Trying to explain it will prove my point. What part of it makes no sense? The best song gets *asterisks* The worst song gets <brackets> Other standouts get italics Particularly bad tracks (in comparison to the rest) get blue text Or is it the "out of 15" thing that you don't get? I posted the rubric on TOST... then again nobody ever goes there... This is kinda why... A scale of 1 - 10 makes perfect sense. Why complicate it? Because, as I said, since I only really rate artists I like, 85% of songs would likely get crammed into 4 ratings (6/7/8/9). Here, there's much more "breathing room" and ratings are less ambiguous (For example I would often enjoy one 8 quite a bit more than another, while now most 11s are about the same) Why not just use a 100-pt. scale then? Because then there's virtually no difference between, say, a 78 and a 79, and there'd still be a long negative tail (part of what I was trying to correct), meaning that it would still be skewed but at the same time the rating itself would be less meaningful (and MUCH harder to decide)

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin I Good Times Bad Times: 12/15 Babe I'm Gonna Leave You: 13/15 You Shook Me: 12/15 Dazed And Confused: 14/15 Your Time Is Gonna Come: 11/15 Black Mountain Side: 12/15 Communication Breakdown: 12/15 <I Can't Quit You Baby>: 11/15 *How Many More Times*: 14/15 Overall rating: D (Great/Very Good) This is an album which is easier to talk about either as one whole or as a disparate collection of songs, and as such it is hard to write a "normal" review, which is a shame, because I love this album. Just a few things I like about it: •Plant's vocals, which would likely never get better •The production, which I'm afraid would go downhill on II •The guitar tone and playing, showing many of the best sides of Page without too many overly wanky solos •The bass playing, which carries many of the songs (Imagine How Many More Times without that kickass bassline...) Even the songs which weren't completely original (erm, 2/3 of the album) are embellished with Page's guitar stylings and Plant's vocals, and overall all of them are easily identifiable as "Zeppelin" without shoving a single style down your throat (Example: there are a lot of blues covers on the album, but ultimately they all sound different and varied, with the more "straightforward" approaches of You Shook Me and I Can't Quit You Babe against the "doomy" Dazed And Confused and the "mini-suite" How Many More Times). If you're a fan of Led Zeppelin, blues rock, or late-60's/early-70's hard-rock in general and you don't have his album already (however unlikely that may be), you need it today.

I agree with you apart from your opinion on the lyrics. Useless propaganda Red Tide's lyrics aren't the most well written but there are plenty of good political songs. Are you trying to tell me that any song with political undertones is "useless propaganda"? No definitely not. My issue with Red Tide is that it's all about the environment So it's only propaganda if you disagree with it?

I was thinking (I know, your eyes are rolling already, Mr. Not on patrol again!) a separate thread would be good for this inside of random samples, just for the archiving it all (that's 200 album links per page for the default user!) It'd be really great and rather useful that way... Just so long as the thread doesn't get cluttered with conversation somehow (knowing TRF...) Done. All new digests will appear here.

My daughter of all things got me Vapor Trails remix on vinyl! She got for sentimental reasons as it was the show she I went to together way back. I didn't have the heart to tell her how much I dislike the album... :) Give it a spin? Maybe the warmer vinyl sound will warm you to it a bit more. Very sweet gesture on her part. It was and I will once I get my speakers and get my old turntable and receiver set up... Yeah! Then find all of your lps and listen to music as intended! Oh I know where they are and I have lots... :cheers: our collections are probably pretty similar. I don't have many LPs released after the mid-late 80s Power Windows was my last until today. My daughter gave me Vapor Trails on vinyl for Christmas. I didn't realize it was a double album. More to love I guess :sarcastic:... From a quick look on stevehoffman.tv the vinyl seems to have better sound... why not give it a try?

I really cannot hear such a sudden drop in quality. Not a single song below great on HYF. Can you at least hear some sort of difference that would result in some people (including me) disliking them?
