  1. I like that review! You know that moment when a band or singer you HATE finally releases something amazing, or does something you HAVE to respect? And you begrudgingly tell your friend who already worships them that you may have been wrong whilst still insisting "but they were always rubbish" whilst inwardly you are filled with doubt?

This review is exactly that! I can so tell the reviewer is annoyed by some newfound respect, and at present can only communicate with "buts" and "whateverz"...ANYTHING BUT ADMIT HE MAY HAVE BEEN WRONG!

Which gives me reason to believe that this time next year they may be given a cover!

What a hysterically human piece of writing!

(Provided you read between the lines).

And never has a surname been so appropriate. La Douche(bag) HAHAHAHA

I bet he is playing it all over again as we speak (and his hot girlfriend was already at the gig! )

  2. I guess I have to say maybe. I wasn't more or less excited when CA was revealed to be a concept album, I just wanted it to be good.

All I want is another album, period. Concept, theme, or random grab bag, whatever they feel like.

Same! Although I think CA would be hard for any band to follow up at this point, I just hope Rush release music they are confident about, perhaps shifting their sound in a different direction, maybe even a new producer?!

  3. Toto IV is a very good Toto album, but being a massive fan of the band I have to admit it isn't one of my favourites.

My very favourite album by them is Fahrenheit- its jazzy, smooth, summery and upbeat. Absolutely sophisticated song arrangements and too many five star songs!

I also love Tambu, which is near perfect, Isolation (Endless is one of my all time favourite rock songs) and Turn Back, a very underrated 80's rock gem!

I prefer Toto to most classic rock bands that originated in the seventies, they are beaten only by Bruce Springsteen in his 1970's prime! I prefer much of their eighties work to that of Rush! When it comes to pop melodies, only The Beatles and ABBA rank higher in my estimations!

  4. That depends on whether or not you view Feedback as an official album, an EP or, being an album made soley of covers, an obscure curio no more legitimate as an album than a live cd/dvd.

I view CA as their 19th release.

Thanks dude! What 7 albums haven't you heard yet? That's so exciting!

    I have yet to hear:

    Hold Your Fire

    Presto

    Roll The Bones

    Counterparts

    Test For Echo

    Vapor Trails (bothe versions)

    Feedback (EP/ALBUM/WHATEVER)

I want to but it just seems exhausting!

But does that mean it should necessarily be counted as an authentic, true Rush album like 2112 or A Farewell To Kings? Yes, recorded in a studio, but I wouldn't fret if somebody discounted it as a proper album. Its more of a curio, an odd but likeable one.

But on the other hand I can see why you might decide it does count, but I never hear anybody talk about the transition Rush made from Vapor Trails to Feedback. Rather, its VP to Snakes ans Arrows. Feedback is just an oddity, much like Toto's Through The Looking Glass. Its nice they made it, but it is Rush the band members having fun, rather than Rush themselves.

Despite the marketing, most seem to regard CA the 19th album, as do I.

You know Toto as well? I think we are going to be pals! :)

I LOVE TOTO! Favourite albums are Fahrenheit, Tambu and Turn Back.

That's fine, but Feedback was recorded by Rush in the studio. :D

Yeah, I agree, feedback counts. I consider anything an album if it has more than one song (obviously not counting one song epic albums), is not a single release, and contains no material that has already been released by the band (unless it is majorly changed, or is brought back to focus when moving to a major label because they believe in that song etc.) or is planning to be released later (i.e. an album that contains a couple of songs that will be released on a later album to tide over fans does not count). So by that definition I count Feedback as an album. I have also heard of an artist or two whose first album was short enough to be considered by the masses an E.P. but yet the artist themselves considered it their first full album because it completely original material not to be rereleased on an upcoming longer album.

Well if you put it that way, well, Segue is humbled!

  7. I want one, extended conceptual piece like 2112, Hemishperes, or Lamneth. They don't have to do a full album...the 2112 or CoS formula would be perfect in my mind.

And to be clear, that doesn't mean they need to go to the 1976 sound. Stay modern, advance your sound, but do it in a different format.

Oh, and don't overlayer the guitars, have too many Geddys, and mix the album well :D

So basically you want to go back to a 1976 sound?

I don't think that 1976 was the last time they had a good mix, didn't have overlayered guitars or Geddys.

    ^completely agree!
