  1. It is seven years older than me. Yikes! 30 seems way to close for comfort!

Brilliant album, bu a step down in quality from the previous run of albums. I think Grace Under Pressure improved upon this album exponentially, and then it all dipped again after that.

Still, this is a fantastic album, The Analog Kid New World Man, Losing It and Subdivisions are my favourite songs.

  2. Hotel Rwanda. And I have no problem in admitting that I cried like a baby the whole way through. It seems so disconnected from the real world I live in, and yet an entire nation went to the dogs overnight in an orgy of mass slaughter, and this little film barely scratches the surface.

Devastating, I find it hard to believe people actually choose to turn a blind eye to such evil. It makes me sick.

I love this film. It never fails to shock me.

  3. I think the next album will be absolutely killer stuff...

But I still think it will be tough to beat the songwriting of the last two albums. I am in the minority:I prefer Annette to both Tarja and Floor. Something about her studio work affects me deeply.

As for live performances: FLOOR ALL THE WAY! I do expect to be blown away by her for the next album, but I will miss the sweet naivety that was Annettes trademark on songs like For The Heart I Once Had, Eva, Meadows Of Heaven, The Birdie Song and Storytime. It was a precious voice, it had a character that outshone all her weaknesses!

  4. Its getting there...some of the synths seem to drown everything else out but I'm wondering if maybe thats a good thing? It sounds much better than I remembered!

Its still not even close to Grace Under Pressure, my favourite post-MP album of the eighties! But then that is one of my top tier Rush albums.

    It goes like this:

    AFTK

    PW

    MP

    Hem

    GUP

    2112

(Possibly Power Windows...it is suddenly emerging as the dark horse of my collection!)

    Signals

    CA

    FBN

    COS

    HYF

    SaA

    Rush

  5. I can't believe I am typing this...

So after all my recent confessions of saying how much I dislike PoW, having had an on/off relationship with this album, I decided to play it today...and it has suddenly started to click!

I am really, really enjoying the lyrics AND the synthy nature of the music! Some passages have an ethereal vibe that is starting to make me think the eighties really were as good as the seventies for Rush! (Ok, that may be a teensy weensy bit hyperbolic).

I am not going to call it a favourite, but its ahead of Signals in places and I can see me preferring it eventually to the bands first three albums. I will keep replaying it, as it feels like this has just started opening up to me in a way a Rush album hasn't done for a very long time!

Hold Your Fire may have helped me warm to this. Its gone up a couple of notches...maybe top ten...

  6. Well I had high expectations for Power Windows.

I had very, very low expectations for Hold Your Fire.

    Go figure.

But saying that, having enjoyed HYF more than I had expected, I am now more hopeful about the seven remaining albums I have left to collect! So the box set is looking more and more attractive every day! Out of 13 albums, I struggle with only one. Not bad going, eh?

  7. Its hard to have a top five when their are about eight albums all good enough for the number one slot.

Hard for me to put any stock in your opinion when you think Power Windows is one of the worst Rush has ever done. CA is easily better than anything before Hemispheres.

    If that's your attitude fine.

Its hard for me to put stock in your opinion when you talk like that.

A Farewell To Kings and 2112 weaker than Clockwork Angels? I would love for you to elaborate but I really couldn't care.

Sorry....I came off a little harsh. I do realize music is subjective and I'm really not one of the a**es on this board. It's just hard for me to fathom how Anybody could consider Power Windows a weak record. Power and Grace are 80's classics.

    Okay lets be buddies!

Well I am torn on PoW. It does nothing for me, I find it so...well hard to care about! The synths are so thick and for me it lacks the rock edge of Signals, the beauty of GuP and the guilty pleasure vibe of Hold Your Fire. For whatever reason, I just don't like it and I can't explain why! Its even the sort of music I enjoy, but when I play it I just fine it a chore!

  8. One day...I just know this will happen...I am gonna give Power Windows another spin and it will rule my world. The same thing happened with both Permanent Waves and Signals. I thought they were rubbish at first, now I love them both!

Funnily enough, I really enjoy Hold Your Fire. I loved it from my first listen! What's up with that?

Have yet to hear the other two.

  9. Well that is a nicer way to put it! Would you care to elaborate? I enjoy differing opinions tactfully communicated.

And when talking about 2112, I must confess I often forget about Side B. As an album, there is a strong possibility CA tops it in my mind!

  11. Moving picture freely against glass screen like butterfly in cup. Feelings "WOW" then "Huzzah" make move emotion in soul feel fuzzy like autumn leaf rot and little squirrel sleeper.

Noodles noodles very good top form seek peace!

    - my friend and google translate!

  12. My Indo-Nepalese-Caribbean fried Tai Shan has this to say:

Big sound Rush make love happen! DVD after DVD has sound of guitar like rock from era punk ages past to modern metal polish music sound. Friend or foe band make loud noises and big attractiveness make illustrative impact and aural sound pleasure feelings!

Tick-Tock Angels album very good very good! Album tour music CD sound captures firey metallic groove pushes out sound after sound of heavy bang bangs and sense of Watchmaker overbearing sonic wardrobe of colour and fluttering emotion, say, excitement?

Argue not friend of band! Music play very good band top form! Chow!

Chopsticks chopsticks rush band top form!! Huzzah!

  13. I think its safe to say that anyone who considers CA a masterpiece either has low standards in music, or is an employee of the band. No other way to explain it.

Right...when I first heard this album, I thought it was an instant classic. A part of me still does! But when I first heard CA I was only partially a fan of the older material, not the big fan I am now!

Now that I have every album from the debut through to Hold Your Fire, I can happily say I have found many genuine masterpieces, albums that belong, not on a list of great albums, because how can anyone be compared to Rush? Rather, they are in a league of their own, and the finest are UNTOUCHABLE!

    2112

    A Farewell To Kings

    Hemispheres

    Permanent Waves

    Grace Under Pressure

Then a few slightly lesser albums: Signals, Moving Pictures, Hold Your Fire, Fly By Night...good grief these '70's/'80's albums are timeless rock masterworks! When I heard them the first time, I was "meh". Then gradually I saw the light and mast of these albums are permanent favourites.

As for Clockwork Angels: I can't listen to it anymore! After fully discovering the magic of vintage Rush, the newer Rush sounds so...I don't know...lifeless? It's a beautiful album, I rank it very highly in fact! But I find it hard to believe anybody could listen to AFTK of Permanent Waves and think they were inferior!

Its a marvellous modern metal album, a real achievement for the band (and in the hands of any other group, it would be the pinnacle achievement of any bands career). But coming from Rush, CA is merely a good album. Five Stars to the unititiated, perhaps a three to the old timers.

I love it very much, but now I am well acquainted with old Rush I am afraid its ridiculously overshadowed!

But as for fans of CA having low standards...good grief! GEMINI RISING BAH HUMBUG TO YOU TOO!

  14. Could not agree any more with that statement! One could argue that every album goes over the top, but then, isn't that kind of what makes Rush, well, but Rush? I love how crazy they sound. Hemispheres went a step to far for me, but then again it might still being growing on me.

Clockwork Angels is an amazing release, and is excessive nature when it comes to the arrangements and such are part of what makes it such a masterpiece! The
