  1. I am now playing VP- Remixed.

I held off from listening to this, and now its remixed all I can say is I am glad I waited! This is still one very loud record!

And a brilliant one to boot. The lack of keyboards is not an issue, I love this change! And their are a lot of amazing songs here...I have had an amazing day catching up with Rush, and the Atlantic years have made we question just how much I prefer the seventies efforts. There is a lot to admire about their latest albums!

Counterparts and Vapor Trails are as good as Clockwork Angels. That makes me very happy!

It's distracted me from Bruce Springsteen. I never expected that!

  2. I am annoyed there are no newer bands for me to get excited about and follow! Their is Lacuna Coil and Alter Bridge, but they aren't new...so rather than grow with Rush I'm having to take it all in in one go! But over the last two and a half years I've discovered a host of old school rock bands, and Rush are the most unusual band I have ever come across! Nothing is ever fashionable with Rush, and yet it always seems so bang on trend! And I used to believe prog was a dirty word...

And I still find it hard to believe the same band, with the same lineup, could have made an album like Caress Of Steel and also Power Windows. What other band can claim to be so versatile? And I think the last twenty years has seen a lot of awesome Rush albums, if this box set is to be believed. I am playing Test For Echo right now, and it is really unusual. I do feel relieved I'm now up to date, its been frustrating not owning or knowing loads of the albums! It did take me ages to get accustomed to the sounds of seventies-era Rush, and once i did grow o love it, the synth era came along and completely puzzled and frustrated me. Now I am sort of into that era, the return in the 90's to more traditional rock has solidified them as one of my favourite bands! I've tried to keep my collection chronological, with a couple of exceptions, so that I do not completely get lost...but the transformation from the synth-era to albums like CP and T4E has impressed me more than even Clockwork Angels overwhelming greatness 40 years (roughly) into their careers. They progress without ever reverting back, or doing a complete 180 and shocking us completely. Their evolution is surprisingly fluid, with the odd frustrating release (I think we all have our own opinions on which ones these are hehehe!).

Is their anything left for this band to do? Coz as soon as I get bored with one album, I have choice of another 19 albums, all unique, to choose from!

  3. I couldn't possibly vote just yet, but I thought CA was for dead certain the winner...but I am playing Counterparts for the first time, and its potential to ultimately be a top three favourite is clear for all to see!

Wow...after having played PoW through Presto a lot in the last couple of days, it has to be said I was not expecting them to rock so hard on an early nineties release!

For now, its a toss between CA and CP. My first taste of VT will be in the form of the remix, and I will remain open minded when playing T4E and FB.

  4. How is the sound quality?

I have Rush In Rio, and the vocal mix is so bad I have no desire to ever buy another live DVD from Rush again (coz that one cost me £19).

However I can't afford to see them live, so if this is a good alternative could someone let me know? Either that or perhaps another better alternative.

  5. Ok, my new Rush box set comes tomorrow so it won't be long before I can make a proper assessment of this era of Rush.

But all of a sudden, Power Windows has opened itself up to me and it is an absolute gem! I am now edging close to proclaiming it a masterpiece. It is just so ethereal and the melodies are fantastic! It is as intoxicating musically as much of their earlier works, such as A Farewell To Kings or Moving Pictures, even if it is completely different from that whole sound!

So for now, and I love to say I have been proven wrong, Power Windows is tops (and I think its a far better album than Signals and possibly as good as Grace Under Pressure).

  6. Emotion Detector is also a brilliant song!

This is getting harder to do...Power Windows has little of what made me love Rush in the first place, but I am starting to love it on its own terms! Having enjoyed listening to Hold Your Fire this week, the future bodes well for me and the rest of their catalogue!
