  1. I think Clockwork Angels could make an excellent big budget anime, in the vein of Laputa Castle In The Sky with the budget of Steamboy.

I think 2112 could have been an amazing eighties sci-fi flick. I think in the hands of Ridley Scott, with Harrison Ford as the hero we could have had a major cult classic on our hands! Oh, how I would love that! With the darkness of Blade Runner and the visual inventiveness of Legend it could have been breathtaking. What a loss...the temple priests would make wonderful movie villains.

The Cygnus songs could have been wonderful Star Trek style tv shows...and the Fear series could have been used as a basis for an interesting set of short movies portraying each element. Witch Hunt and Freeze would both fascinate me!

  2. I must be! Roll The Bones is the only album in the box set I might label using "adequate". The tie track is decent, and a few others stand out, but its the most dated sounding Rush album production wise that I can think of!

More dated than Presto or Hold Your Fire? Very strange to hear.

My only real 'WTF??' moment in listening to the Rush catalog came when I first bought 'Roll the Bones' and heard the rap part. It wasn't in a good way, either, because I like the song but the rap parts disembowel it. Criiinge.

But hey, that's just me :) More power to those that dig it.

On the whole, I like the album itself for the most part. The production on 'Presto' and RTB were both a little light in the pocket.

I'd argue that HyF is closer to Power Windows in terms of production but the incredibly "dainty" sounding guitar makes it sound closer to presto at times. Presto and Roll the bones are arguably the worst rush albums and are without question the ones I play the least. Why they used Rupert Hine twice is beyond me.

How strange...Roll The Bones is currently my favourite Rush album. Its so much fun and a great distraction from the cold weather!

My least favourite Rush albums are Rush and Power Windows. Both are more than solid, and testament to how much I love Rush, as both would be favourites from any other band of their respective era!

  3. "I've always been curious about all religions, and the Totem idea came from the Freud book 'Totem And Taboo', which I ran across at the Chalet studio where we were working just in the bookshelf in the living room. I had been kind of rediscovering Freud by way of Jung and getting to understand the really deep stuff he was dealing with as opposed to some of the pop psychology that we were fed growing up, and I thought Totem And Taboo was such a beautiful title because it's what we fear and what we worship. Totem being what we worship and Taboo being what we fear. What a beautiful, embracing metaphor. At one time, the song Resist was called 'Taboo' because I wanted to have the two little set pieces of what we fear, and in 'Totem' I was just trying to appropriate all religions because that's what I found looking around at different religions and different systems, is that they all have something good. So I thought why not have them all? The 'Buddha smile' is a nice thing, and I'd like to have 12 Apostles...it's all great. It was really just a kind of tongue and cheek, all the good things of different religions." Neil Peart, Jam! Showbiz, October 16, 1996

Phew! Finally caught up with this thread...now I gotta say, this quote is the exact answer I was looking for. I didn't notice it ladt time around reading this particular thread!

  4. Great...this song is forever ruined!

    Thanks you guys! :'(

You asked what it was about. If you are afraid of the answers you're going to get, don't ask the question.

And seriously....our opinions ruined this song for you?! Grow a set dude.

I was being jovial! I couldn't care less about peoples opinions on this particular song, I already know T4E is a less than popular Rush album!

And I have a nice set actually. Often it hurts to carry them around so I load them on a trolly and push them around town! Passersby compliment my beautiful baby, coz I drew some eyes on them and wrapped them in a blanket. Aww...

  5. Ouch...three votes!

I had to go with Roll The Bones. It is addictively moreish...like a bag of sweets I know is shouldn't, but I keep on dipping my hand in and, oh my, it tastes so SWEEEEEET!

Yeah...Roll The Bones...coz its fun and bouncy...in its own way I think its a masterpiece of "What was that?".

One day I might look back on this and slap my face...but it is full of brilliant pop rock, a genre I would neve have thought I would label Rush!

Blame it on the Toto fan inside of me...it fills those kinds of needs!

  6. I will refrain from voting for now...

But Animate is the type of song I never in my life imagined Rush could do. I don't know what it is exactly, but this is not the Rush I thought I knew, and along with Nobody's Hero and the simply perfect Double Agent, Animate is a strong reminder of why I fell in love with Rush in the first place: they are unpredictable. Who thought, after Roll The Bones, they could release an album of songs like this?

So Animate for now...once my opinion for this splendid album becomes more solid, I will vote absolutely!

  7. I must be! Roll The Bones is the only album in the box set I might label using "adequate". The tie track is decent, and a few others stand out, but its the most dated sounding Rush album production wise that I can think of!

A few listens later, I think I might retract that comment! But the title track sounds dated to very much the early 90's, and I am thinking pop music, which grates slightly! But the song itself is a beauty, including the rather odd Geddy Lee rap!

I really think I prefer the 90's era to the post-MP 80's releases. Some fantastic music and very listenable albums!

  8. 3.) Test for Echos - I can't stand how much hate this album gets, I love so many songs on this album and I really love the tour they went on for this album.

Same. Easily my #2 on this list behind CA. It's got some of my very favorites on it, and is one of my faves to listen to.

I don't see this ever being a top five effort for me, but this is still a very strong album!

I really hope I carry on liking this album. It impressed me a lot on first listen.

  9. I am now playing VP- Remixed.

I held off from listening to this, and now its remixed all I can say is I am glad I waited! This is still one very loud record!

And a brilliant one to boot. The lack of keyboards is not an issue, I love this change! And their are a lot of amazing songs here...I have had an amazing day catching up with Rush, and the Atlantic years have made we question just how much I prefer the seventies efforts. There is a lot to admire about their latest albums!

Counterparts and Vapor Trails are as good as Clockwork Angels. That makes me very happy!

It's distracted me from Bruce Springsteen. I never expected that!
