  1. Lmao not you, you weren't a casual fan going in *though it was coming off a bit like you're hype for The Astonishing* However, I am loving both these two new albums. It is a but surreal to think this is where they are fifty years into their career.
  2. Did...did...did they release this the same day as Invincible Shield? Choices, lol Saying that, I still absolutely adore this band. As someone who actually loved The Ninth Hour, it's disappointing to me how flat the last album was for me, and I'm not remotely interested in this. But...I will try it.
  3. Judas Priest- Painkiller Judas Priest- Angel Of Retribution Judas Priest- Firepower Judas Priest- Invincible Shield This was a terrific listen! I skipped the Ripper albums and Nostradamus and Redeemer. These four albums really work well as a marathon! Had a great time with them all. Is it sacrilege to say, I sorta think Angel is my fave?
  4. I felt that about Firepower. I was like "some people rate this super high very quickly" It's too early to know for sure which of these two is best. However, I can't see this album aging poorly. I think both will be seen as career highs amongst all the other classics. It's what you call a one two punch of greatness!
  5. I feel any coming arguing about "which album is better" regarding the last two is kinda redundant. For a band who released one classic after another for ages, can we all just agree...two albums of this majesty one after the other is cause for celebration
  6. Saxon has some great albums (not huge on the latest). I enjoy modern Maiden, but nothing post-80s truly matches the classics for me.
  7. Today, Judas Priest. And likely for the foreseeable future.
  8. When Firepower came out, I was really new as a fan, catching up with all their older albums. So, my coming around to Firepower took time, as I played catch up. Anyway, long story short, it was a rare example of a classic band releasing a career best-worthy album late in the game. Rush did it with CA, Styx with their last two albums, but Firepower really stood out as it felt like, honestly, the band had reached a new peak. And my f***ing god, the energy the band had writing Firepower has continued strongly. Invincible Shield is really breathtaking! I played the singles so much, any other band would have bored me initially with a new album listen. However great songs are great songs, and I loved them like I'd never heard them before. None of them were growers for me, and it appears this album as a whole isn't a grower. I loved it first listen, bonus tracks too. Absolutely incredible first listen. JP have back to back albums that sit perfectly alongside their many classics, and I think in years to come, they will be revered as them too. I don't do number ratings anymore, music is subjective and my reaction to an album changes over time. But if I tell you what albums I prefer the last two, the list is very short.
  9. Judas Priest- Invincible Shield Firepower was magnificent. I think JP are on fire. They just released ANOTHER instant classic. I've played the singles endlessly for weeks. Normally that leads to a rather dull first time listen for new album, but I love all those songs, and the rest of the album is, honestly, faultless. Two classics back to back, impressed!
  10. Around the same time, The Gathering also were exploring electronics. How To Measure A Planet? is HIGHLY recommended, if you want to try another terrific goth metal band shift gears. If this is more Depeche Mode, TGs evolution embraced Radiohead.
  11. Well...if you consider the fact seven years before, they had made Lost Paradise, and now a few short years later they were playing on mainstream radio with pop metal hits...this felt like very left field. But as the band admitted themselves, they were getting bored of metal. Nick came along leaps and bounds as a vocalist, and the hooks were really strong. My issue with the album is it feels over long. My version also has bonus tracks. There is little filler, it's just a lot of lotness. This album went down well, next album Host...that's where fans really wondered where the hell their doom metal faves went. It is a really interesting thing to listen to their albums in order. It doesn't have to be Zappa to be divisive lol. Going from extreme metal leanings to synth pop was never going to please anyone, even with all the evolution in between. I'm definitely grateful they followed their muse. Like In Flames, I honestly think they would not have the respect and the fascinating history if all they did was stick to repeating Draconian Times sound over and over.
  12. I thought you made a mocking joke, maybe I misunderstood 🤣
  13. Based on that, I'm intrigued. Before I play, what about it makes you love it so much?
  14. Okay, so you gave Miles Davis a shot. Throw me a Zappa. It's been years
  15. Paradise Lost Miles Davis In Flames Flowing Tears
  16. Paradise Lost- Medusa In Flames- Battles Lacuna Coil- Comalies Flowing Tears- Jade
  17. Tragic Idol is amazing! I give the nod to Faith because I have a bond with that album. The title track really helped me a lot to wake up. As for the self-titled, the parts they nearly go off track are likely the parts they went "oof, we said we wouldn't do that this time!" and corrected their course haha f**k Metallica. Paradise Lost forever.
  18. The Anatomy Of Melancholy is a good one. Another one is Live At The Mill.
