  2. I was outside in San Fran in 2004 wearing a Rush shirt and someone came over to me and and angrily asked me "How can you support Bush!" I wish I had replied "because he is in favor of improving the literacy of the country." Instead, I just told him that I don't, I support Rush. He looked at me, perhaps thinking of Rush Limbaugh, and just walked away.

  5. A 50% chance you will have a Rush shirt on? And I thought I was the the only one. For me its like having the same t-shirt in a multitude of colors and trying to decide each day which color to wear. I remember one day out with my wife and 3 different people at 3 different stores commented on my Time Machine tour shirt. After the 3rd one my wife was like "damn". Truth is I would say I get a comment less than once a month on average. At the gym with my very bold Rush jerseys and shirts only one person (an employee) has ever said anything.... I have so many T-shirts and I can rarely wear them (friggin' work dress codes), so I end up cycling through my 12 Rush tshirts most weekends. Certainly if I have the original Rush logo shirt on I get more comments than if I have my Snakes and Arrows tshirt on. My Zep zip-hoody with an orange-burnt swan song logo gets more comments than all my Rush stuff combined, but Rush still gets some love. Perhaps you look too intimidating. Intimidating? Thats the first time I have heard that one to describe me.... :) It's the chin hair!

  10. Among my group of friends, I've probably moved some from "never heard of Rush" to "I like their radio friendly songs and they put on a great show", but none of my friends are really hardcore. I do have a grammar school friend who lives close to me now. From 1994-2011 we almost never saw each other, but after learning he is a big fan of Rush, we hang out more and see a couple of concerts. Also, about getting comments on Rush shirts/tats...on weekends I'm out with my kids and there's a 50% chance I have a rush shirt on. I probably get a comment a month about it "nice shirt" or "I love those guys" or "live is the best way to enjoy those guys".

  12. Counterparts? Do you hate your kids or do you want them to hate Rush? Counterparts is what got me hooked on Rush. To each his own, but that album remains by far the band's worst for me. It delayed my transformation from a casual fan to a hardcore one for about 2 years. I'll never forgive it. It's much better than the two that followed it. Next 2? Do you actually like Roll the Bones (Rush's worst albums by far) and Snakes & Arrows (Rush's second worst by far)? I guess it makes sense in a "style over substance" kind of way. Unfixed Fixed :D

  14. And you know this how? What's your source that Rush doesn't see any $$$ from this? http://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2014/01/25/3911/Rush-Spirit-of-the-Airwaves-live-1980-radio-broadcast

Oh, I thought that I liked those albums. I must have been wrong. Thanks for setting that straight. just ignore him. He's got a vendetta against Counterparts. His member title should be Farts On Counterparts, because that's what he does anytime someone brings it up. I love that album. Even SOL lost its clunker status with me. It's all good. Love almost all of S&A as well. :haz:  He entered into a thread to attack an argument I've never made. You're advice is spot on. Sorry about that. I just get frustrated when people state opinions as facts. As for the OP: Congrats! It must be a great feeling to be introducing your child to the wide world of art and music! No worries. Art is inherently subjective, so when I hear people say "best" or "bad" or "great", I just read opinion into it automatically. I am having a much harder time introducing art to the kids, as I don't really have the vocabulary for that. I've got these great museum art comparison books where they get two pieces of work that both include babies (for example) and one is an impressionist painting of a poor baby in an undeveloped area and another is a renaissance painting of a rich baby in an opulent setting, and then you talk about what's similar in the pictures and what's different. It's actually interesting for me and them.

  17. To break my fast on honeydew None of the references in Xanadu to honeydew are present tense, but I'm going with them anyway.
  18. The sidetracking is completely my fault. And you're right on the music. But even with my guiding hand, my kids naturally gravitate to more danceable, upbeat pop. I'm just doing my best to allow for some more substantive music to become part of their vocabulary.
  19. Perhaps my favorite Rush song!

I live every album they've made and these two are both better than Vapor Trails. OK. I love Vapor Trails. Raw energy, excellent lyrics, some very good songs. I just wish the album got Counterparts' production quality. The Remix makes a huge difference, but the sound still isn't great.
  21. I know that I'm in the vast minority in not liking Between the Wheels, but Red Lenses? Ouch.
  22. GuP is about ten times better than CP. GuP has 3 legitimately excellent songs and a couple other very good ones.. It's a little dark for my kids, though. It won't give them energy in the morning or provide comfort at night.
