  1. QUOTE (trenken @ May 30 2012, 02:17 PM) QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ May 30 2012, 02:14 PM) The last two efforts S&A and Clockwork Angels have a refined yet raw sound...Is this all due the production team of Nick and Rich? If so, thank you Nick...you certainly know what the hell you're doing! How was he able to get what other producer's seem to fail at...which is a fantastic sound and getting the band to attack their instruments??? Rush didn't have other producers that failed at it. Actually I think the only time it ever really failed was Vapor Trails, and that was because they tried to produce much of it themselves. They didn't have a guy in the studio saying, "NO Geddy, STOP layering your vocals!" They took total control of VT and it was a mistake. They are not producers and it helps to have someone in there for quality control. That's what all producers do so it's not Nick per say, but just the fact that Rush let him be a real producer. Any producer with any skill can get Rush to sound good, but Rush has to be willing to listen to them and take their advice. If they don't, we end up with VT that sounds worse than some garage band recordings Ive heard. I gotta say that T4E sounds weak to me. the songs are OK but nothing that sticks with me. Nick has had a HUGE impact on Neil, more so than any producer i can recall. I wonder why Nick was able to work with neil in ways other producers couldn't???

  3. QUOTE (Shredder2 @ May 30 2012, 01:48 PM) Guys, we're talking about Geddy Lee here! Sure his voice may be given out to sing the high-pitched vocal parts (like in "Freewill"), but he sure as hell knows how to make his voice work with certain classics today (like the "Limelight" chorus). His voice came out fantastic in Headlong Flight, if you ask me. You nailed it...his passion and power really shine through on that track. If the three songs are indicative of what is to come, which supposedly they are, it could be his most accessible vocal effort for the non rush fan.
  4. QUOTE (beherit @ May 30 2012, 01:39 PM) I heard Alex was gonna be on Man Vs Food Since Neil fancies himself as a chef now, perhaps he'll make it on "Chopped: Musicians edition"!
  5. who's gonna have the boys on they're show for the new album? Colbert? stewart? Rachel Ray?
  6. QUOTE (trenken @ May 30 2012, 01:28 PM) The thing I'm noticing him doing on S&A and now these 3 new songs is he is singing lower much of the time, so that when it sounds like he's hitting high notes, they actually aren't that high so he doesn't have to strain as much, but they sound high since everything else around them is lower. But if you're a singer much younger than him and try to sing them you realize the highs aren't that high at all. I've said before I think it's a smart move for him. His vocals are just not nearly as good as they used to be, his vibrato isnt even close to as tight as it was on albums like GUP so don't try to do them as often, and he isn't now, and his highs are not silky smooth like they were in the old days, so don't try to hit them and he doesn't even come close to hitting highs like them on any of these 3 songs. He's finally trying to sing within his comfortable range. I'm sure live he will still struggle to hit even these highs, I heard it when they played the 2 new songs on the last tour, but at least he won't sound like he's dying on the album. I was quite pleased with his vocals on Rush material dating from 1988 to present on the last tour...especially Caravan and BU2B.
  7. QUOTE (eshine @ May 30 2012, 01:20 PM) I can't think of many rock vocalists of his generation who can sing as well as he still does. What he may lack in precision he makes up for in sheer passion. Let's be honest, these guys are so good we have gotten spoiled. At 58 years old, with the style of singing he is known for and the amount of touring they do, there is no reason why Geddy Lee should not sound utterly horrible at this point - especially in a live situation, so I'm perfectly willing to accept a crack here and there and less the razor sharp "enunciation" as a very small rice to pay for what he can still deliver. On the tracks we have heard so far, he is singing with a youthful exuberance that fits well within his range. By the time they go on tour he will have rested his voice for a year. Its all good - rock on Ged Agreed...and he is creating interesting bass lines once again!!! How much of an impact do you think Nick has had on RUSH to take this path and evolve in this way? It seems that the production value and power of RUSH has been captured in a way not familiar to us in recent memory...certainly nothing as heavy..meaning...this f***ing heavy. When I hear Neil play on HF i hear a thrash element that blows me away..what do you think?
  8. QUOTE (ArrowSnake @ May 30 2012, 01:04 PM) QUOTE (Zanadoo @ May 30 2012, 06:18 PM) Am I the only one that thinks his age has matured his voice and it's better than ever? I like his voice much better now than it was in the early days. I'd say the edge is off and now it"s Smoooooovvvvvvvveeeeee!!!!
  9. QUOTE (GUP1771 @ May 30 2012, 12:44 PM) QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ May 30 2012, 12:22 PM) QUOTE (Zanadoo @ May 30 2012, 12:18 PM) Am I the only one that thinks his age has matured his voice and it's better than ever? That's what I'm saying...Nick really encourged him to throw caution to the wind and wail...been a looooong time since we've had that kind of effort. Just prepare though that rest entire album might not have that type of vocal delivery, so don't get disappointed. There are definitely going to be softer and more melodic moments on the album, so they'll probably be a diversity in his delivery. Yeah, that won't be a disappointment in my book. According to the reviews that have come out there are only a few tracks where Rush takes "the foot off the gas" so to speak. To me his voice has never really sounded better than at this point. we are in for a real treat!!!!

  11. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ May 30 2012, 12:06 PM) Over the years we've all witnessed how Geddy's singing has matured. At this stage of the game it appears that he is going back to really wailing and letting it rip (see HF)...is this the Geddy we all be waiting for? Reason why I bring it up is because the more I listen to the three songs, I find that his voice has a powerful aura to it...reminscent of pre-80's rush. First of all its amazing that he's almost 60 and still kickin it, but the power of his voice on the new releases, especially HF, take me back to the 70's...which isn't a bad thing!

It's mind boggling. I guess making threads and discussing Rush is a bad thing on a Rush forum. if you think and talk controversially, you have to be prepared for the fallout. seriously, if some people knew how entertained i got when they go all crazy over an opinion or discussion, they might not bother. Yeah Goobs jacks off like a maniac in the perv farm each time a young noob reacts to his antics... Yeah not an image to dwell on... yeah because one thing we know is that goobs couldn't get laid in a whorehouse!

  19. QUOTE (USB Connector @ May 23 2012, 12:05 PM) We've known the track list and it's quite clear that the CA story will take up most, if not the entire album length. The news has been out there for some time but initial reactions can be changed with time. Personally, I'm glad that Rush are taking this chance. They really haven't tried anything this massive since Hemispheres or 2112. I think it's great because while Rush have made some great songs since their hiatus, I they haven't made albums that really compare to Moving Pictures in quite some time. Clockwork Angels might not turn out to be such a great album, but if they can pull it off and make the album as great as it can be, then we might be left with songs that might be considered classics in the future. Sure, Far Cry might go on to be a classic but that's only one song on one album out of at least 3 albums (since Test for Echo). My point is, whether it flops or not, I'm really happy that we have an indication that Rush is still trying to produce great albums rather than making one just to tour and make money. Who knows, maybe we'll be left with an album that we really can compare with the best. Exactly...thanks be Gods that we have RUSH still producing extremely high quality and interesting music
  20. QUOTE (eshine @ May 23 2012, 01:27 PM) I mean this as no offense, but who the f*ck cares if this dude likes new Rush or not? Aside from the attention, I cannot fathom why anyone would go through so much public turmoil in anticipation of new music from a band - any band. It shouldn't be that difficult. Just sayin... ESHINE you are someone who gets why I posted in the first place in response to GOOBER...your perspective is applauded SIR!

  22. QUOTE (rushgoober @ May 19 2012, 07:03 AM) I guess the problem with such a long wait for an album (considering it was announced 2 years ago) is there's just too much damn time to give the situation a lot more thought than it probably deserves. My skepticism about CA, despite the stellar pre-release industry reviews, is growing. The problem is, I'm just not digging the first three songs. HF is definitely better than the first two, but even that I'm finding a chore to listen to. If it wasn't for having heard one-quarter of the songs already, and not getting into them, I would be excited. I thought S&A was a very good album, and I liked or loved more than half the songs. With CA, IMHO we're not off to a good start. I'm still hoping for 1 or 2 great songs. I feel I'd be REALLY lucky to get 3. When I'm really honest with myself, however, hoping for 1 or 2 great songs, and thinking 3 great songs is probably wishful thinking, isn't really that great. It seems a long, long time ago that it was a given that a new impending Rush album would be consistent and awesome. People keep encouraging me to appreciate new Rush for what it is and not compare it to their old stuff, and that's all well and great, but the songs still have to be of at least a certain quality for me to want to play them, and what I've heard so far isn't quite making the cut. I know "dread" is a strong word to use, but I'm just not looking forward to what I fear will be yet another late career, sub-standard release. Some will say I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I feel if anything I'm trying to prevent myself from being disappointed by keeping my expectations, based on my experience with the album so far, in check. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than have unrealistic expectations crushed. Don't get me wrong, I will get the album the first day of release and devour it ASAP. I WILL listen with an open mind, and I truly WANT to love every new song, but my hope and enthusiasm is dwindling. I'm anxious about it, but not really in an excited way - more in a wanting to get it over with way. Feel free to accuse me of excessive negativity if you must, but these are my honest thoughts on the matter. It might not be the most popular point of view, and I'm sure I'm in a small minority, but I don't think I'm the only one who feels similarly either... after reading rushgoobers comments on the tracks not cutting it, or being sub par for his tastes. Back away from the crack pipe and get the help you need from a intervention of some kind. This album already is one of the best "sounding" efforts they have made---ever!!! How can you dread this newest offering when it obviously kicks so much ass??? IMO Rush sounds fresh and energized thanks to the production team they chose and the strategy to get the best playing they could muster. Rush has finally come full circle!!! RushGoober get a clue and crawl out of the darkness. You sound pretentious...and ultimately---childish
