Does that dumb yodle thing he does when his voice is tired. See, I comepletely disagree with this. Back in the late 80's, early nineties - it seemed impossible for him to even attempt those kind of vocals, so I'm thrilled that he has that sort of ghusto so late in his career, and t's not as if he's spending most of the show trying to hit notes like that. That moment in Freewill is a fun throwback to the old days - and it's a total, crowdpleasing "WOW" moment. Why fault him for that becuase he's a little shakey for a few bars on the return? Quite agree...Live performances always differ...and the quality of the performance has so many variables which can affect it. Studio wise he's delivered quality stuff and developed a little more with every album. VT gets kicked around a lot on the forums as being one of the worst albums and album efforts. However one's opinion goes, i must say that Geddy sounds passionate and emotional on that record. VT is incredible, those people are just audiophiles that wont even give it a chance. They have listened once and no more, which is absurd considering Rush albums usually need a few spins to fully conceive the greatness. If VT had better sound quality it would be positively reviewed around here, even some critics thought that VT was a great record (on Metacritic) I'm excited to see how Geddy approaches this new effort. Seems to be a gift for us I'm sure!
  2. QUOTE (laughedatbytime @ Jun 2 2012, 06:28 PM) I think we have a new candidate for dumbest thread in this subforum. And a strong one at that! Thanks man...You've had some idiotic ones as well!!! Glad I joined your elite company!
  3. QUOTE (FountainOfSyrinx @ Jun 2 2012, 12:42 PM) I don't know you, and don't like you.. Hell Yeah mavs fan!!!! Used to work for them! Hopefully we'll get Deron!
  4. we could never have imagined what we are going to hear when we recieve this record. they played a major freaking part in it. i hope they continue their working relationship with this crew!!!

  6. I was like an Ocelot with his first erection!!!

If so, thank you Nick...you certainly know what the hell you're doing! How was he able to get what other producer's seem to fail at...which is a fantastic sound and getting the band to attack their instruments??? Rush didn't have other producers that failed at it. Actually I think the only time it ever really failed was Vapor Trails, and that was because they tried to produce much of it themselves. They didn't have a guy in the studio saying, "NO Geddy, STOP layering your vocals!" They took total control of VT and it was a mistake. They are not producers and it helps to have someone in there for quality control. That's what all producers do so it's not Nick per say, but just the fact that Rush let him be a real producer. Any producer with any skill can get Rush to sound good, but Rush has to be willing to listen to them and take their advice. If they don't, we end up with VT that sounds worse than some garage band recordings Ive heard. I gotta say that T4E sounds weak to me. the songs are OK but nothing that sticks with me. Nick has had a HUGE impact on Neil, more so than any producer i can recall. I wonder why Nick was able to work with neil in ways other producers couldn't??? T4E is a decent quality recording, just nothing special about it. The dynamics are a little weak. As far as Neil, I'm really not hearing anything very special with him on the new songs. I know a lot about drumming and I know what he's doing now is not nearly as difficult as some of what he was doing in the past. I think what Nick is getting Neil to do is free flow more, more improvisational style drumming rather than compositional, if you know what I mean by that. But to me that isn't usually apparent to the listener. I'm sure Neil is very excited about it, but us as the listener can't usually notice the difference. When I listen to HF, I can't hear a guy that's free flowing that much, I just hear him playing the parts we're meant to hear. Do you know much about the brand of snare he uses for HF? Has a great sound! Do you know much about it?
  8. QUOTE (danielmclark @ Jun 1 2012, 01:00 PM) QUOTE (Knice @ Jun 1 2012, 11:57 AM) what a great guy as he "quietly resists" and bashes those who have faith. Just a great guy. And why not? It's not as though the faithful are meekly staying home and keeping to themselves. Have you ever had a Christian yell at you at a party that you should be deported for not believing? I have. He then went on to say that if I can't be deported, I should be castrated so that I can't have kids because I'd be raising another generation of godless sub-humans. It was a great party Dude...not all believers are dooshbag a-holes. Sounds like you throw everybody in the same pot when it comes to Christians.
  9. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jun 1 2012, 12:08 PM) Hey goobs...why don't you write a faux review? Betcha could come up with sumthin awesome!!!
  10. Nice to hear new stuff but ultimately these clips tell me very little other than I should be grateful that Nick and Rich hooked up with the boys.

And after all, isn't recording material in a new or fresh way a big thing for the band? In terms of being his most difficult, well, to me songwriting is about feel. it's nice to have those chops and play all those notes, but ultimately aren't songs about feel?
  14. QUOTE (Majestyk @ May 31 2012, 12:26 AM) IMO, his best vocals were in the 80's and early 90's. I would not say his voice has "matured" since then. It has gotten old and strained sounding. But he does still manage to make it sound good in the studio, which is good enough for me. Studio efforts are awesome. This album is going to be like drinking the best moonshine in the world!!!!

Dude what are your smoking? It's altering your perception! Far Cry, Caravan, BU2B and now Headlong Flight has brought back the that everyone loves. That high energy, complex instrumentation, we all love to hear from these guys!
