  1. I guess this ends today, but I just bought my nieces two video games for the price of one @ the store that is synonymous with a dartboard. I think it's for PS4, PS3, and xbox. I also think they have to be UBISOFT game. I didn't want to spam or violate the rules by stating the name of the store, but it's a pretty damned good deal for the kids.
  2. I watched the pilot when it first aired. I fell asleep through the first attempt, but watched again, and made it through. It is a weird show, as I am not familiar with the business side of music. That's really the only reason that I'm watching it. Plus, I was a baby in the 70s, so I just like to see how life was then(no cell phones, smoking in public, using pencil and paper instead of keyboards, etc.) I think it's funny hearing Ray Romano curse, and I love his unique voice, but they're overplaying him for his celebrity. *spoiler alert* I loved it when that band literally "brought the house down." Lol. They really screwed over that black guy. Pissed me off, especially the main character screwing over Led Zepplin. What an idiot! I've got the second episode recorded.
  3. Sorry I missed this. Happy Birthday. You are missed very much in SOCN. I hope you'll come back one day.
  4. I'm really bummed today. Reality is setting in. And my chest hurts.
  5. My father passed away, yesterday, unexpectedly. Now, both my parents are gone. It was 1 year and 1 week to the day that my mom passed away, last year. He was 74. This really sucks. I thought he'd live forever.
  6. Just listened to the new album, again. One of the better ones, I think. Again , very clean and mixed well. Dystopia is great, and I like Poisionous Shadows. The last song is punk influenced. I kinda like it. Now, listening to the new Fear Factory album. f***ing heavy as hell.
  7. It's too bad Megadeth never really plays much new material live anymore, even when the new album is really good. I'm guessing they'll play the first three songs and Lying In State and that's it. Maybe one of the other tunes will pop in and out of the set but three or four new songs seems to be it for them. This always surprised me, they tour alot. So i would think he would want to mix it up for himself Nope. Their typical setlist includes Wake Up Dead, Peace Sells, In My Darkest Hour, Set The World Afire (semi-regular), Holy Wars, Hangar, Tornado (maybe another one off RIP instead of this one), Skin O' My Teeth, Symphony, Sweating Bullets, A Tout Le Monde, Trust, She Wolf and a couple new songs and that's it. Stale isn't even a strong enough word to describe their setlist. It's the reason why I haven't seen them live in 5 years even though they're one of my favorite bands. All the songs they do are great for the most part but there's this mail it in feeling to their live shows. 15 or 16 songs max are their shows. Yeah, never more than 2 or 3 from a new album.
  8. Amazon delivered mine today, bit I didn't listen to much.
  9. The room isn't big at all. It's very small. My wife loves movies, but I listen to music more critically. Here are some groups I like: Prog:Rush, Dream Theater Heavy: Fear Factory, Ammon Amarth Blues: Tedeschi Trucks, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, BB King, Albert King. Hard Rock: Megadeth, Iron Maiden Industrial: NIN, MM, KMFDM. Clarity is what I want and a feeling of depth, like when you're actually at the show and the sound waves are hitting you. I want to hear the different instruments. In movies, dialogue clarity is my beef. Small room definitely helps to keep you within budget and decent quality, since it doesn't require you have full range front/center/satellite speakers. You could get away, like I have, with small satellites and focus more on a decent 10+" Polk or Klipsch sub. I meantion these brands because they tend to be found on sale at Newegg often, and they're good units for the money. Like with any hobbyist gear, you can always spend more for that nominal improvement. Lke someone mentioned, hearing is believing. If you have a good home theater store in town (they're getting rare to find) I suggest visiting them. if you can't hear the difference between a $300 sub and $1500 sub, then you mind as well just get the $300. Picking the right Satellites is tricky, and you can't always rely on customer reviews since some people are deaf and just don't know it. Aside from Bose, none of the suggestions here have been bad IMO. Again, finding someplace to preview them or a trusted review source is critical. You can get away with smaller satellite speakers, but perhaps not the center channel (needed for best movie dialogue reproduction). There's a ton of brands, models, and bundles/kits to choose from. I ended up with the Energy brand speakers because they were on sale and a friend already had them, so I got to hear them before buying. My center is just another satellite speaker, nothing different. But it does the job just fine. Amplifier - you don't need anything to fancy, just something that actually does what it says. The lower end Pioneer amps are suficient for entry-mid level setups. Yamaha and Sony have good reputations in making decent lower end models. Modern DACs in most playback equipment (DVD, Bluray, etc) are damn good compared to the past. Oppo gets a premium, and I don't by into it fully. The idea of being able to through ANY type of disc into the player and have it work is a very nice proposition and worth paying a bit of a premium to have, but their claims of *superior* fidelity is mostly vaporous. In the digital era the gap between adequate and benchmark performance is shrinking daily. What's available now on the market is what would have been considered top of the line 5-10 years ago, and the bleeding edge has gotten blurred with respect to creating any new frequencies/bit depths. Same for the high resolution formats - blind tests have proven we really can't tell above CD quality. So just get the media players you need, and focus your cash on more important matters - in this case, adequate speakers. /brain dump, for now Yeah, I may have to go to Atlanta to find a "real" stereo shop. These guys will actually let me bring my own CDs?

  11. You're ok with powered speakers? Could the amps blow up inside? Serious question. I've never had a powered speaker other than a subwoofer.
  12. Thanks. I think I had asked you about all this before, but I had some set backs last year. B & W is probably a pipe dream. I've read countless reviews saying that they're the best.
  13. You're kidding, right. We're Rush fans. We want every song to be 20 minutes. Lol
  14. I'm in the market for home audio speakers. All I've ever had is a shitty HTIB from Yamaha, and I want to spend some decent cabbage on some real speakers. In fact, I'm not gonna listen to the R40 live BlueRay until I get new speakers. I'm willing to spend $1500 on a set. Sound Distributors has a 5.1 set featuring the Polk Audio TSx550 tower speakers. Are those good speakers? Would that 5.1 set featuring the matched surrounds/center be a good setup? Also going to buy a receiver: looking at a Denon, which is roughly $1500. It's a 9.2 with Dolby Atmos, Audessy, and a bunch of other crap. It says it pushed 145 watts per channel. So, anyways, what do you guys have, and what do you suggest.
  15. First impressions of the new album: 1)Too damned short. Some songs just cut off, it seems. Come on Dave, play on, brother! 2)Very, very, politically driven. 3)The sound is great. After listening to Dave's autobiography and hearing why the early albums sounded like shit(drugs), it's so great to hear clean sound. It is VERY WELL mixed.
  16. Sorry to hear this Jim. As much as dogs are family, they are still dogs with dog instincts. About 15 years ago My wife's first cousin stopped by their neighbors shetlon pony farm to let her 6 year old ride one. They had done this so many times before. While knocking on the door the neighbors rotwieller came casually walking around the house. Ended up the neighbors were gone so as they walked back to their car the dog walked with them. They both had been around the dog dozens of times but never without the neighbors present. The mom stuck out her hand and the dog sniffed it and turned his head as if no big deal. As they started to walk again the dog turned back around and attacked the 6 year old. The mom eventually just layed on top of her daughter as she couldn't pull the dog off. The dog stopped and just casually walked back around the house. Sydney was air lifted but never made it to the hospital. so many internal injuries as well as a broken back. About a year later I was working a construction remodel at a wholesale florist. Met a husband and wife thet had been house sitting their son & daughter in laws 2 young pit bulls. They had been around the dogs (2 years old) since they were pups. Around 7 or 8 days into the house sitting they came home as usual and the dogs attacked them shortly after entering the house. the women was able to get into a closet and shut the door. The man was being drug down the hall by his leg and grabbed an aluminum softball bat leaning up by the back door. he said the second hit busted the dogs head open and it didn't even phase it. It took another hit for the dog to let go. They, (husband and wife), had staples in their heads and stitches everywhere. I'm a dog guy and we have a small 15lb +- collie type mut. She is smart as hell and obeys me very well. But she has shown a tendency to be hostile towards women/small kids if they invade her space when she is in heat and protecting her stuffed toys.. She hasn't bit but has snapped. I keep her in another room or outside when company is here. She will retrieve a tennis ball for anyone, women/small kids included until your arm falls off. She loves my daughter. But my kids know that if she ever bites, she is gone. I love that dog but not at the expense of others. It sux but dogs can always be dogs. Hope this is the first and last time anything like this happens with your Shephard and hope Payton recovers quickly. There is no such thing as a bad dog, just abusive owners. If those pits and that Rottweiler was rescued, then it's entirely possible they came from abusive homes :( And would you actually put down your own dog if she accidentally nipped you or daughter while playing fetch? "No such thing as an abusive dog, just abusive owners" Erm...no. This thread proves dogs can do things that take the owners by surprise. Clichés aren't truths just because you keep repeating them. Good wisdom. Also, we need to not forget the obvious here: the owner wasn't home. Just like kids, the dogs figured out that their owner wasn't around, and decided to get in a fight. Nobody is at fault. The dogs still have primitive instincts from their wolf ancestors.
  17. I was afraid of that. Payton has Napoleon complex. He wants to be an alpha male, but when you tip the scales at 16 lbs...not going to happen. There is the problem. We humans have bred the dogs to various shapes and sizes, but they still have the ancestral psychology of their predecessors, the wolves. Like you said, if the dogs were the same size they could have scrapped and figured it out, but Sven turned it into a bloodbath. Anyway, I'm sorry this happened and I hope Walter Payton lives. You're a good man forking out all that money on a dog. It's silly, but I've done it myself, more than once. Hopefully, the watchmaker is on Payton's side.
  18. Amazon just delivered mine, plus it downloaded on Prime. Yes! No Atlanta megadeth date. Not a shocker with The Masquerade gone. Only chance to see them is at the Carolina Rebellion, in Concord, in May. Sucks, because I prefer small venues.
