    Analog Kid AlexFinal.gif

With The Weapon in a very close second. They're not gonna play Digital Man since they played it on both legs of the S&A tour. Save that spot for Analog or Weapon since they haven't done them in so long.

They played Analog Kid at the last show I saw. Ahhh, but that was 18 years ago. wink.gif I forget that sometimes, as it feels like yesterday.

    Anyway...

Countdown!! No question about it, that's the one I'd want over all of the others.

    Nice try.

So, I guess you don't think that selling your unwanted CDs or books to a used record store or used bookstore is ethical? Artists don't get a cut of those, either.

I'll use your example to illustrate how it doesn't make sense to me, and it will answer your question to what I first said, also.

Let's say I bought a book, or a CD, for $15. And I don't have any attachment to it, so I'd like to sell it to somebody else. For how much? $50? $60? $100?

THAT doesn't make sense. Not to me, anyway.

    Is scalping really that bad?

Hmmmm...why don't you ask the band?

    If:

    1. You can guarantee selling them for whatever your asking price is

    And, MUCH more importantly

    2. You have a way to hand the profits over directly to the performers

If you can satisfy both of those first two points, then hey, knock yourself out.

Outside of that, though, I don't even see how the question can be asked with a straight face.

Ticket scalpers are the scourge of the performing arts.

The performers do not deserve any profit the scalper makes from their sale. The performer got their price on the initial sale. Anything beyond that belongs to the reseller.

But based on that rationale, it would seem that piracy is OK, too. Do you believe that? If not, then explain to me how it's different.

  5. Three for me, I believe, on the Roll the Bones tour.

There are a couple of other (hippie) bands I've seen much more intensively. Like from July '96 to July '97, I saw the Black Crowes 17 times. (and 49 times in all, from 1992 to the present).

I will be making up some long-overdue time with Rush on the Clockwork Angels tour. I haven't seen a Rush show since Counterparts. I'll be in Columbus, maybe Detroit, and haven't decided on a few others.

When the classical guitar opens the album.
When the bells/chimes accompany the guitar.
    When the classical guitar ends...
You know it's gonna be epic.

    Agreed!

I still didn't give it a 10, because Madrigal and Cinderella Man aren't ALL that great; they're all right. But the first side of the album and then the last ten minutes are completely epic!

  7. Sure, this record sounds dated (definitive 80s production values), but even considering that, I think it has aged well. I give it an 8.

Some especially fantastic lyrics on this album, seriously. And I like some of the songs better now than I did in 1987.

  8. City Barbecue last night- pulled pork with their brushfire sauce, gumbo and rice, sweet vinegar slaw and a big fat green salad with cucumbers and onions, and French dressing. Yum!

It's 8:00 in the morning, and I feel like I could go for it again right now!

Hmmm...leftovers of the meat and the sauce are in the fridge... cool.gif

  9. I was also shocked when I heard yesterday, just like so many others. I wasn't a fan of everything the Beasties did (past tense, already? Yep.), but Ill Communication is one of the top ten albums of the 90s, in my view. Some absolutely incredible stuff.

    RIP MCA

  10. I have a Martin DX1 that I just bought myself for Christmas this past year. After 26 years playing the drums, I decided to move to something melodic, to go with my singing.

Great guitar (I'm sure it will sound better as I get to be a better player, too)...it has pickups on it, but I'm not using them. And seriously, I have no interest in playing electric guitar at this point.

But I'm having a lot of fun learning...endless hours of pickin' and grinnin'... smile.gif

  11. My boss describes himself as a 'systematic' guy, which mainly just translates into taking two or three times as long to get every project done, compared to how it could go if I were in charge.

But alas...maybe that's exactly why I'm not in charge. At least I have a fair degree of autonomy, though, to get my everyday things done.

And hey, the guys in our manufacturing plant don't even have radios. Or air conditioning. Not a whole lot of perks about the place.

Hmmm, one good thing...at least they don't have to ask when they need to go to the potty.

  12. The Catherine Wheel, by Jean Stafford

I read The Mountain Lion before this one, and so far I like The Mountain Lion better (it was fantastic), but this is good. It feels a little slow through the first hundred pages.

  13. This isn't a poll, because I don't make those, but I just wondered if there's anybody around here who's had a longer spell between Rush shows than I have, currently. Eighteen years, one month and three days, as of this typing (that's March of 1994, if you don't want to do the math).

I WILL be making that spell go away this year. wink.gif

  14. QUOTE (HowItIs @ Apr 28 2012, 02:50 AM)
It's all one big ugly conglomerate.

This can be said of the whole recording industry. How many major labels are there now, two? Three?

This is why so many artists now have their own imprints and do a lot of the distribution themselves.

  15. QUOTE (Alexmai @ Apr 24 2012, 02:09 AM)
It could have been longer wink.gif
    Its only problem...

Agreed, pretty much. However, I think it's OK if a short-ish album still has the power to blow me away.

I give this one a 9 also, only because it's not the 'perfect' Rush album, I don't think. (But don't ask me what the perfect Rush album is, as I'm not completely settled on that point).

  16. I just listened to Grace Under Pressure for the first time in...wow, at least fifteen years, this past weekend. (Maybe 20?). When I was younger I always thought it sounded dated, with the electric drums, etc...but anyway, as I hear it now, all of the playing is excellent, as always, and by 1983-'84, Geddy's singing had calmed down into something very nuanced and melodic. I love this album!

    I gave it a 9.

Best songs on it, in my opinion:

    Between the Wheels

    Afterimage

    Distant Early Warning

    Red Sector A

    Welcome BlueJ!

I'm Carrie, another fan who grew up with Rush's hits and had a friend in high school who was big into Rush, but lost track of them after that until they came back here two years ago and I finally got to a show! I was hooked, and have dedicated my life since to making up for lost time!

Hope to see you around the forum and maybe on the tour! bekloppt.gif

    Big smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

Excellent...my first Rush show was when I was in high school, on the Presto tour. My most recent show was only about four years after that. So yeah, I'm severely due for it again.

    WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    trink39.gif

This is a fun little place in our crazy world. Make yourself at home.

The general consensus on this board is that Caress Of Steel is the best Rush album. tongue.gif (at least in my head)

When I was about 15, I used to freak out everybody in the house by playing the Necromancer really loud at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. No lights on, you know, just the glow of the stereo system, that's all.

You have fantastic taste in other musics, too, by the way. Right on.
