  1. wouldnt say id cooled on CA just yet some great stuff on there but ive developed a finer appreciation for the more relaxed S&A past couple days

i'm even playing speed of love right now

later edit: got bravado on now which definitely means i'm trying to chillax a bit

I like it alot, but that's coming from someone that loves Out Of The Cradle.

now out of the cradle is one of those weird little rush tracks that really works, one of my favs and probably has the grooviest little funky solo from Al too.

in fact you know what? i havent heard out of the cradle for a good couple months and i'll be damned if i aint going to youtube it now!

  3. when Bu2b was released i thought it was some of the best rush ever and set too high a standard for any following material from the album... all i could hope for was that a few tracks might be like caravan and come close.... a couple like the title track and the garden certainly do, but Bu2b still in a league of it's own, similar to earthshine on VT
  4. only slight issue for me is the permanently up-tempo feel of the album, like the band feel they have to be the aggressive power trio for todays youth... every track with the exception of the garden, tagged on at the end, has a fast kind of feel to it (i'm not including BU2B2 or halo effect which seem thrown in to balance things up a bit)

dont get me wrong i think this album is a lot better than what it could have been, 5 or 6 of the tunes are sheer class, but there arent the ups and downs of previous great rush albums..... someone in here mentioned a few days ago that rush dont give their music time to breathe these days and i suppose thats what i'm in agreement with to an extent...

take for instance a masterpiece like permanent waves.. it's a fast hostile album a lot of the time full of aggressive and dangerous moments even, but also containing so many quieter passages, like the band isnt trying too hard to please the younger rebellious element who want it hard and fast

and of course, when rush deployed their softer facility it only served to accentuate the more dynamic moments

rush were masters of this kind of interplay and emotional balance and i understand they're older with different attitudes now but i personally miss the roller coaster of a rush masterpiece, particularly in albums more than an hour long with plenty opportunity to just chill out a bit.

like i say though, still rockin.... i'm loving BU2B caravan and the title track in particular, just great rush and it's a real privilege just to have the guys still around, so aint complaining at all really.

  5. its funny coz a lot of the things regarded as solos on this album dont really have the feel of solos to me, more like Al doin his funky sound effect things i personally luv so much, just some of them too incidental and arent long enough which is a shame maybe... or maybe not, maybe they just right.

Give the guy a break he just wants to get the upper hand on life!!

yeah, gotta hand it to him really.

by the way, all i see is maybe a big 'R' in the middle

well i luv CA it's a great album that could have really disappointed but, having thought about it, if i had to put together a 13 track album between the best of VT, S&A and CA it would be

    6 tracks from VT

    4 from CA

    and 3 from S&A

suppose i'm sayin VT got more better tunes on it really

Give me the 3 from Snakes please?

far cry, armor and sword and bravest face

four from CA - Caravan, BU2B, clockwork angels and the garden (seven cities nearly crept in)

6 from VT - earthshine, secret touch, ghost rider, nocturne, out of the cradle and the stars look down (one little victory nearly crept in)

makes a darn good album to me

  8. well i luv CA it's a great album that could have really disappointed but, having thought about it, if i had to put together a 13 track album between the best of VT, S&A and CA it would be

    6 tracks from VT

    4 from CA

    and 3 from S&A

suppose i'm sayin VT got more better tunes on it really

  9. it's true parts of the album are slightly underwhelming yeah but it still feels like a vast improvement on s&a and exhibits some of the band's more mature and developed material

one thing that slightly disappoints me is that nothing of the later stuff quite matches the sheer brilliance of BU2B or caravan, like the title track and the garden are very close and parts of the rest arent too bad either like seven cities and carnies great stuff but BU2B and caravan are different class for me... like in spirit of radio kinda class even

BU2B2 isnt doing anything for me like it was just pasted in last minute to give a concept feel or something slower paced, and the wreckers/wish them well are kind of fillers too close together and similar in mid tempo

maybe some of us just need more time for it all to settle in, heck i didnt rate moving pictures in comparison to Waves when it first released

  10. wish them well coming so soon after the wreckers on CA i find the two of them clash a little having the same sort of feel about them, neither extremely up or slow tempo, but heck it aint a huge problem

    I thought he did.

for some reason it was decided Nick would mix this album. just compare the 2 Caravans. I prefer Rich's mix.

yeah, i was out listening to CA today on the ipod when caravan came on and it suddenly struck me that caravan has been raised to another level in some way, like it was a very good rush tune before but now it's in the rush classic category like SOR or something.....

i personally think the extra synths/bass effects etc have been the finishing touches and given the track that extra bit of class it needed

caravan and BU2B are still different quality to the other up-tempo songs on the album.... maybe the garden is on the same extremely high level and the title track/seven cities gives em a close run, but some of the rest are just fractionally below..... there arent any poor efforts this time which is great.

  12. oh right thanks for that, i noticed that seven cities of gold was referred to as Cibola, which was also the name given to post apocalyptic las Vegas, city of The Dark Man, by the trashcan man in stephen king's The Stand...... just sayin like smile.gif
  13. i'll just say this great band never needed any redeeming, yeah a couple of their albums fell a little short of the mark, like s&a for me but, they always came back with something exceptional to shut the critics up

this band has given me too much for so long to say they need redemption

I am mature enough to admit when I've made a mistake. In my open letter posted earlier this week I said that Rush was not giving me a *Rush* anymore. Well, I am eating those words as I type this.

Today on listen number 10 or so while walking around the East Village on a gorgeous spring day it hit me. This is one of the best Rush albums ever. It is certainly the most consistent/strong album since the mid 80s which is saying a hell of a lot.

Seven Cities of Gold? Halo Effect? The Wreckers? These guys are hitting it out of the park!

I should have known better than to offer up my opinion prematurely. Rush are a sneaky band and can creep up on you with an album. And this one is a creeper. Heavy, catchy and Geddy hasn't sounded so alive in ages.

Where Snakes and Arrows kind of fizzled toward the end Clockwork Angels hits with the one two punch of Wish Them Well and The Garden.

As many folks on this forum have already pointed out, this is Rush's 21st Century masterpiece. I'm just a little slow on the uptake.

Really really really excellent work. 2.gif

dont blame you for your previous attitude, no bigger rush fan than myself but snakes was below par for me in spite of having one or two great tracks, so i also was apprehensive before CA's release but yeah you're right they smacked it out the park and reminded us who the daddies are smile.gif

CA is a brilliant album, and maybe a step up in development from anything else they done, which is saying something, but Al in particular is totally outa his box

they even played around with ged's voice a little, particularly in 7 cities, to make him sound really cool again smile.gif

    "What do you lack?"

It's asked by the Pedlar, who is actually the Watchmaker in disguise.

is he? oh, i didnt know that, thanks smile.gif

  16. no way is this our last rush offering the band are obviously just too into what they do and looking at em now dont present in any way as anywhere near too old or running outa energy

one more album at least in maybe 3 or 4 years time i'd say

(but yeah, if they were to go out now, the garden couldnt be a better track to go out on)
