  1. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Dec 13 2011, 07:21 PM)I've only been on this forum since summer of last year, but I've noticed a pretty big change, especially over the last few months. Even though most here are friendly and seem like cool people, there seems to be a decent amount of assholes who just want to bitch all day. I didn't see much of that when I joined. I still like most people here and I'll probably keep posting, but I really hope that the overall attitude changes. Been lurking a long time, and sadly have to agree. All the shouting voices of negativity seem to be slowly assuming control on TRF. Not as bad as Counterparts, but headed in that direction.
  2. QUOTE (USB Connector @ Dec 12 2011, 07:43 PM)Basically admitting to being an alter of Tony R. I don't mind, but this thread is just stupid seeing as how Tony is arguing with himself. Seriously? Seriously?!? Oh well, he seems to lots of fans around here, as folks appear to love his joke by about 5-to-1. Big Jerry Sandusky supporters, I guess? Seems like TRF is slowly but surely turning into Counterparts.
  3. QUOTE (Presto-a RUSH fan! @ Dec 12 2011, 10:36 AM)Joking to a 13yr old RUSH fan who is just posting about his favorite band about being molested isn't so funny to me. Seems it is to everyone else. Yeah, I don't get it either.
  4. I don't think these members are going to like Clockwork Angels: Rushgoober, Tony R, WCFIELDS, Reani14.
  5. I hope that Clockwork Angels sounds like Rush, NOT Dream Theater. A Dramatic Turn Of Events is okay, but some of the extended "wankery" gives me a headache. And what is up with that "breathy" voice that James LaBrie uses on DT's ballads? It's embarassingly bad, like something on a John Tesh album. Anyone who complains about Ged's vocals and wants CA to sound like DT should give a listen to This Is The Life or Far From Heaven. (But seriously, ADTOE is pretty cool otherwise.)
  6. QUOTE (danielmclark @ Nov 19 2011, 11:10 PM)"I hate Superconductor. Sounds like they didn't put any effort into it, so it's filler." It's a myopic view of the music and it assumes that one's opinion about a song is actual truth. My opinion is just that that they don't work like that. Brilliant! Thank you! "Filler" seems to mostly mean "Songs I Don't Like." Of course, I DO think Rush knows some songs are "better" than others when they write and record them. They're not deluding themselves that Good News First is "better" than Armor And Sword. But I don't think they put out stuff they don't believe in. Except maybe Dog Years. Although even there, they probably thought it was funny or snarky at the time. On a side note: why does "slow" so often mean "filler?" Can you have a couple of slower tunes on an album, or does every song need to be at least 120 beats per minute? Is Dark Side of the Moon filler because it's all slow tempos? Should symphonies in classical music be altered to drop those boring slow sections?
  7. QUOTE (USB Connector @ Oct 26 2011, 08:48 PM) Caress of Steel - Rush Hold Your Fire - Rush Seriously? Worse than TFE and VT? And RTB?
  8. QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Oct 26 2011, 07:48 AM) Yesterday I listened to Open Your Eyes by Yes. In an up and down, ever changing lineup of a group this one is the ultimate turd. The album before, Keys To Ascension and the album after, The Ladder both make the attempt to return to a more 70s sound and they succeeded quite well. Open Your Eyes has maybe three good songs, but for the most part it is just awful. I hope to never hear it again. What band that you really enjoy had a real stinker in their catalog? I would have to agree. I don't think I could pick even one decent or memorable song on OYE. Fly From Here, on the other hand, was pretty damn good. Rush's fail would probably be Test For Echo, just for the mediocrity. Vapor Trails is a mess, but at least they were trying something different.
  9. QUOTE (treeduck @ Oct 20 2011, 05:41 PM)Do you think its a good idea for a married man or woman to be close friends with members of the opposite sex? Yes [ 14 ] [43.75%] No [ 13 ] [40.63%] Entertaining thread! But the poll should have been phrased differently, since two things are being debated: 1. Do you think its a good idea for a married man or woman to be close friends with members of the opposite sex? 2. Do you think its a good idea for a married person to spend a lot of one-on-one personal time with a single member of the opposite sex in near-dating situations? Seriously, the scenario the OP describes sounds a lot like dating: motorcycle rides, movie nights... What's next, backrubs and a bottle of wine? Anyway, I would say Yes to close friendships but No to married dating.
  10. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Oct 6 2011, 05:06 PM)QUOTE (Tony R @ Oct 6 2011, 01:58 PM) 1. Record another good album End of thread.
