  1. A very happy birthday to a very intriguing guy, multi-talented with drumsticks and with words! Thanks for giving us so many words to chew over, Neil, and the beat to go with 'em! And..... 61....? Holy cow........ Hope I have that kind of stamina when I'm that age! :)
  2. After listening to a digital copy of My Favorite Headache, I finally decided to buy a physical cd copy from Amazon a little while back. It's a great album. I haven't had a listen to Victor, yet, though; I imagine Amazon might have it, too? But if not, I'm sure youtube might have it. As for what to do to be a bigger fan... well, that's really subjective. I tend to go the route of delving into minutiae - having all the studio albums and live albums and bootlegs and amassing massive photo galleries and magazines and books. And buying Rush shirts. And trying to be more like my hero, Geddy Lee, by playing bass. But sometimes one reaches a point of 'too much', or overload, where one learns too much about a favourite band or delves too much into them, entering into a bit of tunnel vision where that band is all that exists. But hey, if that band is Rush, that's not such a bad thing! :P
  3. I just watched 'O Canada' for the first time last night! I thought I'd finally get around to watching it, since it's been in my little mental list of Rush stuff I still haven't experienced. I liked it; Geddy sounded a bit nervous, and I thought he could have done a bit more vocally (shown off his singing chops a bit more), but I like his low-key approach. Must have been a different for him to sing that a capella, without his comfortable band mates for back-up!
  4. And, Lorraine, this one is for you! http://images.starpulse.com/pictures/2009/03/20/previews/Geddy%20Lee%20and%20Neil%20Peart-ALO-061962.jpg ;)
  5. I had this dream last night that Geddy joined my family in playing a kind of board game, which is kind of weird because my family doesn't exactly play board games together! It was really cool, but then I noticed that his hair was rapidly thinning, so much so that I could see his scalp through his thin hair! He was... going bald! I was startled by this, and tried not to stare. He pulled his hair back in a ponytail, and I noticed the thickness of the ponytail, and thought, what? Where did all this hair suddenly come from? And, randomness: in this game we were playing, we had to pick from about 8 different colours to play with, and he chose sky blue. I was late coming to the table to choose, so I was stuck with grey, which turned out to be this gorgeous shiny silver. Anyway, in honor of our favourite not-going bald bassist/singer, a couple of nice photos: http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/wennpic/wenn3268926.jpg http://www.exposay.com/celebrity-photos/geddy-lee-2011-juno-awards-5vfxo3.jpg
  6. The Snakes and Arrows? Me too. Great songs, and Geddy sounds amazing in it. The first couple of times I watched it, I couldn't get over how nice his voice sounded. And, of course, I got more exposure to songs like 'Digital Man', 'Entre Nous', and 'Mission'. I think this version of 'Mission' is my very favourite, and I prefer this version of 'Digital Man' to the original, too. :) I listen to the orginal, and I'm like, "Hey, where's the climactic vocal ending? The 'He plays fast FORWARRRRRRRD, yeah'?"
  7. I saw the interview that screenshot is from a couple of days ago. It's really great and the interviewer is polite and thoughtful (even ask permission to ask about his family being Holocaust survivors). Thought about posting it, but don't know where. If there's not already such a topic I guess I could make one :) I will have to have a scout around on youtube and see if I can find it!
  8. Don't know what happened. It showed fine last night, and I can't even find it on my computer now, so I guess I hadn't saved it, and I just spent the past embarrassingly long chunk of time back-tracking my steps, searching for it on the internet.... It is a mystery. :(
  9. I don't know. I've had it on my computer for a long time. I have a file of just Rush pictures that I use for my screensaver. Just one folder? There's something wrong with me, for sure. :P I have my Rush photos categorised, with subfolders and all! At the moment I have the 'Clockwork Angels Tour' folder selected for my rotating desktop wallpaper. Can you guess what my Rush interview collection is like? And my Rush bootleg collection? I tell you, I need help! Oh no, I meant I had one folder of pics that I use for my screensaver. I have folders for all the concert pics I've taken categorized into folders, but yours definitely sound more detailed than mine. :) I'm glad I'm not the only one around here that has folders and sub-folders of pictures.... I think we ought to pool all our pictures together and come up with a definitive, mega folder!
  10. I was doing a random google search on Geddy's singing (I'd like to try to learn more about him as a vocalist, like how he got into singing and how he practiced, and stuff), and this thread popped up near the top of the search results! :) So I read through the entire thing again, and am filled with warm, mushy feelings towards Geddy's singing voice. I've been into the vocal sound of Counterparts lately. Most of it is in a more 'normal' scale - with some parts even a bit too low for me ('Cut to the Chase'), and Geddy's tone is amazing. He is just nailing everything he sings. This is really a perfect blend of tone, vibrato, and dashes of high parts. And it doesn't hurt that the album production itself is so good that everything sounds so clear and awesome. What else is on the vocal radar? 'The Twilight Zone', for one. Love the jauntiness of the verses, switched up with the moody, sombre choruses. This popped up on my ipod while walking home late at night a little while ago, and though I should be used to it by now, the whispered part in the second chorus (which is very up-front with headphones on!) managed to creep me out a bit. And 'Chemistry' - love the slowness of the chorus ("One, two, three...") and how, again, perfect Geddy's singing is in this one. And 'Wish Them Well.' I like the high "Wish them well"s that echo the main Geddy part, and how powerful he sounds during lines like, "People who judge without a measure of mercy". Ah. I love Geddy's singing. Oh! And I'm so glad that Geddy sounded so consistently good during this past tour. There were some songs that I felt were even better-sung than the studio versions, such as 'Halo Effect', or songs which were sung a little differently that brought new light to them, such as singing the higher harmony part during the last choruses in 'The Garden'. :)
  11. That cat photo kind of puts my find to shame, but here's what I came across, anyway!: http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/4100000/Geddy-Lee-2008-rush-4123317-500-332.jpg
  12. Geddy in those glasses gets me EVERY time! And the kitty just adds to the adorable factor. :) GEDDY AND A CAT! GEDDY AND A CAT!! I can die happy now.... But seriously, I've seen photos of him with dogs, but not with a cat... until now! :)
  13. They'd be disgusted if they could read some of the lustful comments I've posted! *Hides* Disgusted or interested *wink wink* Lerxst: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Bluefunk/Rush/AlexLifesonArrivalsRockRollHallFamehrSRa8IKgdbl-1.jpg "Errrm...." *Tries desperately to think of an excuse to leave* Dirk: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Bluefunk/Rush/2.jpg "Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" *Runs* The look on Ged's face..! :P That's hilarious! I love that picture of Geddy. Though I keep seeing it as a happy Geddy face! :D
  14. Just read through the updates in this. Hobo, that's really creepy about Phil using your daughter's picture.... It's kind of amazing, really, how someone in his postion (becoming estranged from you guys) can think that it would be ok to do. And for being seen smoking crack... ugh. :( I hope ways keep getting parted for you guys. Doesn't sound like someone that should be around your little girl! :( And Gangster - I'm not in the loop as to what's happening, but hugs for you as the gist doesn't sound very good. :( I hope things work out ok for you. And Analog - I like what you have to say! :)
  15. Hmm, which picture is this? Can you show us? :) And awesome for being 'one of them'! :D
  16. ....Playing New Year's Eve...? In Berlin...? But, hey, any kind of Rush action would be a good thing... don't want them to go gently into that endless winter night.
  17. I had a friend like that and she died right before her 26th birthday. I never found another and, at this point in my life, I don't think I ever will. But ... never say never. :( Aw.
  18. I was hoping you'd post at least that second one, Huge! I was thinking about it. :)
  19. It's a bit of a mystery. I have a friend who claims to be the first person to have put it online but will not divulge any other information haha. The story goes Geddy was on vacation out getting the paper or whatever and the mystery man recognized him and asked him for a snap but we may never know. If that's the case then I wouldn't have approached a shirtless Geddy. Isn't all the kick ass music he and his soul brothers have given us enough? I'm not even sure I'd approach him at a Blue Jays game with shirt or no shirt Well thank the Lord it wasn't you passing him by that day... Yeah, feeding your lust isn't as important to me as respecting his privacy. ;)I imagine the guy who approached him was really personable AND Geddy was in a good mood at that time. Lucky for you eh? You know, last night I was watching "Beyond The Lighted Stage" and the topic of fans comes up and Geddy says something about how he's decided he's going to go where he wants, do what he wants, and if somebody asks him for a picture or an autograph, that he has time for that person. If Geddy wanted to he could have ran inside and put a shirt on and then come back out, or he could have said no to the person since he's obviously on vacation somewhere. Yeah, he could've done that. But he didn't because he seems to be a genuinely nice guy. But knowing that, I wouldn't approach him in THAT situation because he'd likely TOLERATE my pic request. I'd approach him in a bar though since that's a far cry from him shirtless in a yard bending over to pick up the newspaper Well, thank you for that image for the first part of my morning! ;)
  20. I think that during the whole 'time machine' theme (was there an actual 'time machine' theme?) for the 'Time Machine tour', the boys went back in time to 1973 or whatever, with a handfull of Rush brand underwear, and took this photo. Neil took the photo. They wanted to get Geddy with his long, fabulous hair (who wouldn't want to get Geddy with his long, fabulous hair?). And the boa. I wonder how this photo came into being? And leaked to the public, for that matter - it doesn't really seem like something that would be flagged around! And just did a search for the orginal underwear photo, using "Rush underwear" in google search. I don't recommend it - there's a lot of weird stuff, and none of it Rush-related. I think I saw photos of Big Time Rush (presumably) with their pants around their ankles, showing their underwear, I kid you not. Aren't these guys, like, 12? Anyway.... Well, "Geddy Lee underwear" isn't coming up with that photo, either, but here are some nice random ones! http://img.youtube.com/vi/VEF320HwGYs/0.jpg http://img.youtube.com/vi/1itsBF2iRmA/0.jpg (Ha, what do you think Geddy's saying here? Looks like he's admonishing my underwear-photo-searching efforts!) http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq335/PetieLee/DSCF7139.jpg Ok, here: http://24.media.tumblr.com/d12a8b70a04b6ada6785774c86900d8f/tumblr_mrlopyLfBN1sa22pxo1_500.jpg Oh! And randomly: Geddy's butt and hair: http://www.cadolphmoores.com/storage/Rush8.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1298234494590
  21. Aw, this picture is really, really sweet. I know this ('Resist') is an emotional song for them to do, especially all acoustic, so they must be feeling especially emotional and affectionate in this photo. I really, really like this. What is the image from? ETA: Just got home from work (where I'd posted this) and that picture is still giving me little smilies. :) :)
  22. That wasn't me photoshopping, I can't take credit! I found that picture somewhere in the netherworld of the great internets, and I actually didn't happen to have an original copy (with the blue underwear) on hand! :D
  23. :) One of my very first favourite Rush songs was 'Time Stand Still', but it took me until last year to sit down with the entire album. I'd never before heard songs like 'High Water' or 'Second Nature'... I remember back in '98 seeing a track called 'Turn the Page' and thought it was the Bob Seger cover, a la Metallica at that time. I remember being disappointed that it wasn't! :P Of course, I really like this song, now. A very good album, and some really rhythm-oriented bass parts. I just tried playing the riff from 'Turn the Page' a whie back and was discouraged at how athletic it is! :D
  24. Did somebody say UNDERWEAR? http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g454/GoddessMika/Rush/tumblr_mbn38f2vW21r3hnxto2_1280.jpg And this one again, because I just saw it again and it is awesome. http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g454/GoddessMika/Rush/31_zps98a2f8f5.jpg
  25. Nothin' negative about being gay, but there's definitely something voyeuristic and weird about fan fiction. Of course, that's what I did when I read the first post of this thread. Never again! Oh, I hope I didn't come off as being negative about homosexuals? I very much support their fight for having the same civil rights, and I'm pro gay marriage. Even participates in Gay Pride parades to show my support. Just wanted to clarify :) No, you didn`t come off as negative towards homosexuals! You said ``gay in a negative way``, which I understand. Not meaning just gay, which is fine, but using gayness in a negative kind of way, which is not fine. I hope my messy clarification makes sense! ETA: Kind of like if someone sees two men hugging, and snipes, ``Gawd, that`s so GAY.`` This is a totally negative thing to say, and personally, I`m sick of hearing people throw around the `G` word in situations that really don`t warrant it, like using it as an adjective to describe something negative. There are many words in the English language to convey negativity about something, and `gay` is not the right choice.
