  1. You cant have enough discussions about something you really like.
  2. This band isnt mentioned a lot here, so, why not? This band is like a guilty pleasure for me, i really like their compositions and i think Roger Hodgson has a really pleasant voice, and the fact they have some prog bits here and there also helps. I have problems with their more poppy approach, you know, thats why i call it aguilty pleasure, but i think Crime of the Century and Even in the Quietest Moments are really good albums. So, anybody here likes it?
  3. Dont you think is a little overused? I like it when its used to do certain effects in the songs, for example, the style of playing of Danny Carey or Mike Portnoy; but i think certain genres use it a little bit too much. Ive heard entire songs comprised by unending attacks of double bass pounds, which they turn out to be very repetitive and boring in some cases. Its just my opinion.
  4. ANOTHER ONE!!!??? Holy shit. Whats up with this year?
  5. I would like to remind you that in Ænima is the best Tool song ever: Pushit. HELL YEAH!!! :haz:
  6. I see there is little love for 10000 Days here. I agree is almost like a rehash of Lateralus, but less cohesive, but actually i think Jambi is a great song.
  7. I havent seen this poll here before, so why not?
  8. I pretty much stopped making threads on new bands since the few I've made get no interest whatsoever. I'm pretty busy right now, but I'll give them a listen later! Ok, but Tiamat is not new, is kinda old actually. Like 25 years old.
  9. Geez, seriously? I know I'm not the most popular user of this forum but this is the third thread i a row that doesn't get any comment and barely any views. Oh well, ill just keep trying then.
  10. Just to clarify: no, i still don't like the growls, screams, shrieks and all that stuff; but Opeth made me curious enough to check some other bands inside the death metal circle (or black metal, i really can't tell them apart). The first album i checked then is Wildhoney, by Tiamat, and without any reserves, i can tell i really liked it. Its atmospheric, haunting, you can actually understand the lyrics and is complex enough to keep a proghead interested. I would say that the album is bigger than the sum of its parts, no song really stands out, but i guess you also could say the same about The Dark Side of the Moon, every piece works to make a bigger cohesive whole, and that almost never is bad. The music gets a little repetitive after a while and is nowhere in the same level as Opeth, but in general is really great, check it if you haven't.
  11. Im not the biggest Slayer fan, but i admit he was a great guitarist, and i actually like Reign In Blood. Yeah, very sad. But i dont get all the hate for Kerry King in this thread, a man just died and the only thing you care about is how much of a duchebag some bald guy is and how bad his albums are? And some people here want him to die? What is this, 4Chan? I know im not the most pleasant guy in this forum and i have made some douchey comments myself, but not even i go that far. Calm down people.
  12. Mussicaly they are pretty good, but the voice of the vocalist is... hmmm... too "mainstream" for my taste.
  13. You cannot like Fusion Jazz and not like this band, really. Here is a live concert: Dennis Chambers is awesome.
  14. AllMusic is one of my favorites reviews page. They are pretty fair and objective most of the time, evaluating every album and artist by the own standards of their genre, i mean they dont bash an album just because is not pop or radio-friendly hard rock (cof cof... Rolling Stone.. cof cof) or are assholes just for the sake of been assholes (cof cof... Robert Christgau... cof cof). When i need to know if an album is good or bad i go to them, and usually they are quite accurate. So, the other day i found a very interesting review which claimed one album as been the worst album ever made in the history of rock n roll: Attila, from the band Attila, a short lived 70's duo composed by Billy Joel (yes, that Billy Joel) on keyboards and vocals and some other guy on drums, whose name i dont remember. They gave it their lowest rank, 1 star out of 5, and claimed it was almost unbearable to listen. Then i said "... this sounds very interesting...", and looked for it, expecting to hear a musicall train wreck, because i trust AllMusic a lot, but when i listened to it, it was not that bad. It came across as silly and redundant and sometimes Billy Joel's screams were frustrating and cringe-worthy, but in general i liked it more than any other Billy Joel work. Which comes to prove that even the most professional and objective reviewer is still guided by his own personal tastes. This the album in question, if you are courious: https://www.youtube....h?v=ScIWg0iOxUw
  15. As far as pop goes, i guess you could do a lot worse. At least their songs are catchy, but i would never label them "musical masterpieces". They will always be just party songs. Just saying...
  16. Dear Jesus. Generalise much? Sorry man, i only have what i got from tv.
  17. It seems sometimes that since the 80's the only thing black people can do is rap. Its refreshing find a musician from that era who actually can sing... or play an instrument... or compose a song... you get the idea.
  18. This is the first band I've heard (and i mean the first and only) that doesn't have a single bad album. They are all consistently good. That's kinda interesting, isn't?
  19. Al Verde literally means "to the green". It would have been funny. Yeah, those are cool ideas.
  20. Really? that sounds kinda interesting. What you have on the album? I mean you got music and lyrics, or just the concept itself? What it is about (besides "unanswered questions", of course)? No I've just sort of thought through the concept. :P The lyrics would be questions throughout life that are never answered (at least at the time) such as a child's questions about where babies come from, or a teenagers questioning of religion. Also, there would be some epic instrumental sections in the vein of Echoes (Pink Floyd) :haz: Pretty cool.
