  1. Gotta show that displacement loud and proud while not mentioning the horsepower, don't want to realize you're making power levels typical of a 80's Honda 2.0L C'mon man, let those Malaise era cars be put out to pasture rather than getting others in on it
  2. Years of wasting my time nerding about cars. It is not efficient or useful knowledge to have. I just like cars. I keep up on car news, even on many boring generic vehicles. I've found EVs very interesting, and my girlfriend works in the EV space as well, so we talk about it a lot. I do that too. New countertop appliance? Definitely researching. Tires? Oh man, that's two weeks of research beforehand.
  3. what part of Nevada are you in anyway?
  4. Because I don’t idolize moving to Eureka, Nevada? Most people agree that the coast rocks. Some people arbitrarily disqualify the California coast because of memes, but that’s ok. I like Oregon a lot but I think it’s a little too north for me to love long term. Even though I’ve never really been to Arizona or New Mexico, I would probably like it in plenty of their areas. Or Colorado, that state is so goddamned great.
  5. Just last week, my realtor told me they’re expecting a third child and wanted advice on what to go check out. Won’t consider minivans. They had been looking at $70k Sequoias. They already have a 2023 4Runner as the second car (which I helped them buy lol). I told them to save $25k and check out the Honda Pilot, or the other Jap 3-row SUVs if they end up not liking that. Pointlessly buying truck-based SUVs is incredibly expensive.
  6. I take it as a personal insult and get my feelings hurt when someone knows I have mass car wisdom and doesn’t solicit me for buying advice
  7. Yes, a Model Y with full tax credit is a stellar deal for what you get. And being on the Tesla charger network is the easiest way to quell any irrational charging fears you may or may not have. If that one vehicle ends up now unavailable, you could consider placing an order. They come relatively quick. EVs are a reliability improvement compared to modern hyper complex ICE hybrids. The only hybrids I would consider reliable enough for my standards are those made by Toyota or Honda. Enjoy drivin for like $0.03/mile if you get that Tesla. Drive it 150k miles and it should still be worth like half what you paid for it.
  8. “Landlords take all the risk” Landlord: any chance you’ll be willing to pay rent a little early this month? I need it to make the mortgage on time.
  9. Today is the best I’ve felt in 10 days. Maybe I’m FINALLY climbing out. I’ve totally forgotten what feeling ordinary and normal feels like.
  10. I didn’t see Cali for a whole decade, and then I went like five times in five years counting another upcoming wedding
  11. With the exception of the car dependency (not really any worse than Utah though), I would love living in several places in California if I didn’t have family and friend ties here. No job offer would get me into Texas or Florida or anywhere in between though. I’ve heard farm feed store guys say that opinion isn’t possible, but I guess it is.
  12. We watched the last eclipse from Lynndyl. Nowheresville, off a dirt road. Cutest farm dog ever kept us company.
  13. think how pissed people would be if it was delayed lol
  14. We know multiple women who have stayed with absolute deadbeats for years and years on end They're inappropriately giving hope to thousands of godforsaken incels everywhere
  15. stay at home dad? try stay at home dude
  16. Quiet quitting? No, that's called doing your job Quiet firing? Actually a thing
  17. That attitude leads some people to run off to isolated rural areas alone and risk significantly higher rates of suicide, it's not healthy
  18. People have tons of reasons for not wanting to pack up and move 500 miles. Family and friends is often the number one stated reason. I can't in good faith tell people that logically want to live near family that they should just move somewhere where apartments are $300 cheaper a month. There's more to life than relocating to bumfuckistan and letting dollars dictate everything. It's healthier to fix the system than try to densify Wyoming and just start the same problem somewhere else. Homes are expensive nearly everywhere, it's a nationwide problem, one that housing market speculation has made far worse.
  19. If only more of those $120k homes existed. I have no idea where you would get a $120k house anywhere in Utah. Even $200k is very unrealistic, even in small towns with no economy and no competition. Housing does not follow free market economics very well, because you cannot choose to not participate in the market if you don't like the prices. Everyone, particularly renters, are captive audiences on the cost of shelter to some degree. Housing demand is very inelastic to rent prices.
  20. Coked up synth rock I guess. When I play The Analog Kid, my natural speed is noticeably slower than the album version. If I try to play along to it, it's like "holy hell guys I'm trying to keep up here". I naturally play others like Digital Man slower as well.
  21. The solution to "people want to live in urban areas and there is much more demand than supply" is to increase supply, not present people with mental gymnastics as to why their preferences are wrong
  22. "Get out of those stupid high-cost urban areas and just buy a $120k house in a small town" Terrific advice. If they can manage to find gainful employment in that small town to pay for that house, that'll stave off their suicide for a good while longer
