  1. I am no looser tonight. IM LEAVING TO GO SEE THE MARS VOLTA IN 1 HOUR!!!! I think I can safely say, that is unless any of you have dinner reservations with Rush this evening, that I am going to have the best friday night out of everyone tonight.
  2. I thought I rememebered having a Guiness at the party. Shame on you all, serving booze to a minor
  3. QUOTE (Rivendell @ May 27 2005, 08:10 AM) Keane - Hopes and Fears. The album is pretty mellow for the most part. I think that the singer has a great voice. I'm into them and Muse from the British scene right now. Saw Muse in Hollywood, was great. I also stumbled on a band called Lacuna Coil from Italy. The singer has a really cool sound to her. It's labeled as Goth Metal, never thought I'd be into it...but it's really cool. You can listen to song clips at Amazon. Muse is pretty good, I am waiting for them to come to SF, would like to see them. I've heard a few people talking about Lacuna Coil for a while too, but havent actually listened to them yet, maybe I will check them out.
  4. Just saw Lowki, Zeromind, and Primate last night. Was a pretty good show, my work friend knew the guys from Zeromind, he grew up with them and sometimes watches them practice when they are rehersing. It was a pretty good show, a bit more rap then my tastes, but they are very energetic. Oh, and my Jethro Tull tickets just came in the mail yesterday
  5. I have never seen this show before, except for this finale and the previous episode. All I can say is that I knew it would be pirates
  6. QUOTE (Earthshine @ May 24 2005, 10:08 PM) I'll see if I can make this one bro... DM, Moonie.... you guys going to this one? Maybe we could hook up? We could do that, I have work that day, but should get to the Concord BART around 6pm-6:15pm (depending if I catch the BART that leave SSF right as I get out of work).
  7. Once again, on friday night i am a looser. But Saturday will be a different story, going to see VNV Nation tomorrow night. Why didnt this thread be a saturday one, I am never a looser on Saturday's
  8. No other acts?? So by the time the show is over, the last BART train will not have left??
  9. I just saw the movie earlier today, and I regret to inform you all of something tragic..... (spoiler).... In the end....... Neo dies.
  10. You actually enjoyed Kilmer or Clooney better then Keaton?? I think Grammer will do just fine as Beast. I am quite excited to hear Juggernaut is going to be one of the bad guys this time around, he was always my favorite bad guy. Now if they would only bring Gambit into the hero roll.......
  11. So when does this thing come out again? I was gonna wait till after the first few days, let all the Star Wars weirdos dressed like Chewbacca or dudes with muffins on thier ears like Princess Leia to see it before I went.
  12. I am not sure whether to post this in the concerts thread or new music, but it was new music to me so I think this will work. I just went to one of the best concerts last night that I have been to all year, one by the band LCD Soundsystem. Before I went to this show, I had heard no material by the band at all, I was only going based on positive word of mouth recommendations I have seen here and there. So I head to the Fillmore last night with no ticket in hand, hoping there is gonna be a scalper that isnt trying to completely rip me off. After haggling one down from $75 to $40, which is only about $5 more then face, I have a ticket and am in line. Luckily for me, there isnt much of a crowd even just half an hour before the doors open, so by the time they do, I was leaning against the stage, front row. The opening act, M.I.A., was really good, as far as hip hop/dance artists go. I remember a funny video before she took the stage in which you saw a press conferance with Tony Blair and dubya in which Blair was giving a speech and was constantly getting interrupted by Bush who was saying nothing but "M.I.A.". Sometimes in a long drawn out way and you would see Blair starring over to Bush with great annoyance. The music at times was really good too, I am not a hip hop fan, but it had me dancing and smiling, thats not something that is all that easy to do. I enjoyed her. But the real suprise was LCD Soundsystem. Once they took the stage and I first heard the drummer start in some frantic beat and then synths, bass and congas following, I knew this was gonna floor me. Each band member were playing thier own seperate parts, sometimes in different time signatures, but it all was flowing together incredibly. The layering that was going on made listening to each seperate member so much more interesting not only in what they were playing, but how it added to the feel of the music. If I were to describe thier music, it would be a electronic, rock feel with a huge emphasis on the layering aspect of song progression. No band member, sans the drummer, were limited to any one instrument. The singer was playing the drums at points, the guitar player was switching off between congas and bass guitar on other songs, the bass player was using a mini-moog, everyone was all over everything. By the end of the night, I couldnt contain my enthusiasm and was in a wild dancing state. And to top it all off, because of how close I was standing, during the last song I was able to simply reach out and grab the used drumsticks of one of the band members (4 of whom were helping out in drums at some point or another). On top of that, each member had a setlist taped to the floor next to their instruments and after the show was over, I convinced one of the stagehands to let me have one of them. And because it was at the Fillmore, every sold out show that venue has, they give out free customized posters after the show is over. So I got quite a bit of goodies at this one. All in all, this is one band that I am going to be SERIOUSLY paying attention to in the future and right now is probably my favorite new band. I would highly recommend to everyone to check these guys out. If only every concert I go to could be as perfect as last night, this show last night is in my top 3 concerts right now for sure.
  13. Just added Jethro Tull to the list, they are coming to Oakland and were REALLY quiet about it. Didnt find out until after tickets went on sale and I have been checking thier website constantly. Oh well, I'm going
  14. QUOTE (Test4VitalSigns @ May 11 2005, 09:35 AM) QUOTE (Moonraker @ May 8 2005, 07:00 PM) QUOTE (sullysue @ May 8 2005, 12:26 PM) I'm thinking about getting NIN, but I feel like Trent is yelling at me sometimes. Or maybe I have issues. I would suggest you get Still then. For the last 2 1/2 years, it was unavailable for legal reasons, and was recently put back up for sale. Very little yelling, mostly piano/acoustic guitar based, and the most beautiful music, albiet depressive, I have ever heard, Ever. Much much different from anything else he's ever done. Is this album available in stores or do I have to order it on-line, Moonie? Been trying to find "Leaving Hope" 2 latest cds I bought are Radiohead-OK Computer Pink Floyd -Meddle Going to do some more shopping in Raleigh tomorrow and plan to pick up a lot more cds and dvds I havent seen Still in stores like ever. Well the used stores sometimes carry it, but I havent seen Still anywhere else. They might have just stocked the shelves with them though in the past week with the release of the new album, but as of the day of the release, I didnt see any. Your best bet is online.

  18. Ok, more concerts for me. Last night I went to my first King Diamond show, very loud and very metal. It was played at the Pound in SF, which has been there for years (just I've never gone), but last night was the first night they had thier outdoor stage put together, and I got to help break it in. Openers were Black Dahlia Murder (arrived after they played), Behemoth (walking to the venue as they were on stage, I could hear the music clearly from about 500 meters back), and Nile (craziest hair on the bass player, was like a windmill). Anyway, King Diamond was definatly the main attraction, incredible theatrics with some insane concepts of the acting. I havent ever been to an Alice Cooper show, but I couldnt imagine it being much different then how this night went down. I have a few more I am gonna hit soon too. LCD Soundsystem and M.I.A. are playing at the Fillmore on the 14th, I havent heard anything by them, but I have heard their names dropped enough to peak my interest to see a show. Also BFD is coming up in June, over 20 artists will be there, including Foo Fighters, Social Distortion, Kasabian, The Lovemakers, Sleater-Kinney, Hot Hot Heat, Alkaline Trio, The Bravery, Lyrics Born, Ash, Kaiser Chiefs, Tegan & Sara, Rise Against, MXPX, Dredg, Senses Fail, Every Move A Picture, Jackson United, DJ Z-Trip and a couple other to be named acts.
  19. Any ideas of posting this in the game forum, or having an admin switch it there? If it is a game, there is a place for it

  21. QUOTE (sullysue @ May 7 2005, 10:42 AM) QUOTE (Steel Rat @ May 7 2005, 11:41 AM) QUOTE (sullysue @ May 6 2005, 10:58 PM) QUOTE (Steel Rat @ May 6 2005, 07:49 PM) Joe Bonamassa, blues/rock musician. I haven't heard of him, Rat. I'm gonna look him up on iTunes. You can listen to 30 second snippits of songs there. You will fall in love. He's really wonderful, Rat! iTunes is only offering a partial album of "A New Day Yesterday," though. Sounds like a Tull song. Maybe Ian Anderson covered that guy, if thats the case, I think I might wanna check this guy out.
  22. Today, I am taking a break. Tomorrow I am going to a King Diamond concert.
  23. LOL, thats pretty cool, suprised she didnt have you right there. But what was your REAL first concert?
  24. QUOTE (madra sneachta @ May 5 2005, 08:09 AM) Another band I'm really enjoying at the moment isThe Futureheads (although they've been about for a while). Futureheads' cover of Kate Bush's Hounds of Love is class, their sound is a bit like Wire/Gang of Four. Post punk jangly guitars, good stuff. I just bought Hounds of Love a couple days ago at the recommendation of Puppetking2112, not at all disappointed. Might have to check that band you are talking about out.
  25. Jethro Tull Baltimore, MD 08/31/01 Was sitting in the last row , but hey I was there. It was a great show, outdoor small theatre at one of the piers, and where I was sitting I had a great view of the Baltimore harbor to the left. Then it started storming, deep thunderstorm with lightning jumping off the clouds and hail at one point. Luckily though, where I was sitting, the tent part of the place covered me and a couple seats to either side, everyone else though was soaked.
