Saints add Larry Warford to offensive line

The Saints are adding some strength and size to their offensive line.

Larry Warford, who has started for the Lions since they drafted him four years ago, will sign with the Saints, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

Warford has size and talent, although he never quite lived up to the promise of his rookie year, when he burst onto the scene as a third-round draft pick and was instantly one of the best guards in the NFL. In recent years he’s been more inconsistent.

The move should give Drew Brees a little more comfort in the pocket, and it will mean the Lions, who have already added right tackle Rick Wagner, have more work to do on rebuilding their line.

Report: Saints “closing in” on new contract for Nick Fairley

The Saints are “closing in” on a deal to keep defensive tackle Nick Fairley, NFL Network reported.

Fairley, 29, started all 16 games for the Saints last season, his first in New Orleans.

Fairley set a career high with 6.5 sacks last season and has 20.5 in his six-year career. He played his first four seasons with the Lions, then one with the Rams before signing with the Saints last year.

The Saints have prioritized upgrading their defense and seem willing to trade wide receiver Brandin Cooks to help that cause, so their push to keep Fairley comes as no surprise after his 2016 season.

Saints raid division rival for linebacker A.J. Klein

The Saints need all the help they can find on defense, and stayed within the division for a new starter.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Saints are signing Panthers linebacker A.J. Klein.

Klein started for the Panthers when Luke Kuechly was out with a concussion and played well. But with Kuechly, Thomas Davis and underutilized 2015 first-rounder Shaq Thompson at linebacker, there weren’t going to be many snaps for Klein in Carolina and he knew it.

The Saints don’t present that same problem, as they need upgrades at every level of the defense. Klein’s a solid run defender, and better in coverage than some suspect.

Saints bringing Ted Ginn Jr. in, which could clear the way for another deal

Posted by Darin Gantt on March 9, 2017, 12:06 PM EST

The Saints have signed their second Panther in the last hour, and this one could pave the way for another deal.

According to Dianna Russini of ESPN, the Saints are adding Panthers wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr.

Ginn has only really looked like a professional wide receiver when in Charlotte. Two years ago, he parlayed some good numbers with Cam Newton into a payday with the Cardinals, but the Cardinals had buyers remorse after a year and Ginn returned to Charlotte.

Because the Panthers were willing to throw deep and often and budget for Ginn’s drops, he worked there but they weren’t going to overpay for him (either time).

With the Saints discussing a deal which would send wide receiver Brandin Cooks for Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler, bringing Ginn in gives them a speed threat who has some return ability as well.

There will be a new force in the NFC South this year and it will not be the Panthers or the Falcons (aka Clowns). I think the color scheme will be Red & Pewter :P

Following up that week 1 loss to the Vikes with a Patriots matchup isn't going to be fun, tree. :D

That loss is only happening in your dreams so it's actually going to be great!

Report: Adrian Peterson, Saints closing in on deal

Posted by Josh Alper on April 24, 2017, 3:45 PM EDT

Word came Monday that the Saints and running back Adrian Peterson are still talking about a contract and they reportedly are moving toward doing more than that.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the two sides are “closing in” on a deal that would put Peterson in a Saints uniform for the 2017 season. Per the report, the deal would be for $3 million-plus.

There’s no word on when things may move from closing in to closed, although the draft may provide some impetus to get things done sooner rather than later. The Saints would likely want to know if they need to add a running back at some point this week as they are thin at the spot beyond Mark Ingram and signing a deal now would keep Peterson from losing out on possible landing spots due to how the draft unfolds.

Report: Adrian Peterson agrees to two-year, $7 million deal with Saints

Adrian Peterson will be playing in the Minnesota Vikings season opener this September. He’ll just be doing so for the team on the opposite sidelines.

Peterson reportedly told Josina Anderson of ESPN.com that he has agreed to a two-year deal with the New Orleans Saints worth a total of $7 million.

Peterson also gave the full details of the contract as well. The deal is a one-year contract to start with an option for a second year for New Orleans. Peterson will earn $3.5 million in fully guaranteed money this season with a $2.5 million signing bonus and $1 million in guaranteed base salary.

His 2018 option would carry $3.5 million in non-guaranteed money with $2.4 million in roster bonuses. The $3.5 million comes from $1.05 million in base salary, $1.65 million in per game roster bonuses, a $750,000 roster bonus that triggers on the third day of the league year and a $50,000 workout bonus.

Incentives also exist that could raise the total value of the contract.

With those parameters in place, Peterson would carry a salary cap charge of $2.25 million this year for the Saints and a $4.75 million total charge in 2018.

The Saints currently have $8.5 million in salary cap space according to the NFLPA database.

New Orleans is set to visit Peterson’s former team on Monday Night Football to open the 2017 season.
