american ganster

hey, I saw american ganster last night, and I must say it's a good movie...

it reminds me a bit on the movie "blow" and " the departed" but that aint to bad.

 

so, what are you toughts about this one?

I thought this was a great movie - very well done, and the fact that it's based on a true story makes it all the more compelling, even though it was a bit fast and loose with the details.

 

Frankly (pun intended), I'd be surprised if this got any Oscar nominations for acting, even though the acting was superb. It's just that neither Denzel Washington or Russell Crowe's performances were particularly demanding. I felt like the movie was really the star as opposed to the acting performances. Even if either of them do get nominated, they won't win - they're just not the kinds of roles that win Oscars. The movie I could see racking up some nominations though.

 

The comparisons to Scarface in reviews are a bit overwrought. I don't know if it's as good a movie as Scarface (which is pretty hard to beat in its genre of drug lord movies), but it's certainly at least more realistic than Scarface.
