  1. I preordered this box set when it was announced. It looked stunning and I didn't own any of the movies at the time. I ended up holding onto my order even after that lawsuit that resulted in a one year delay. I've finally decided to go through everything this box set has to offer. I wasn't sure if this was entirely relevant to any existing threads so I figure I'll just make a new one and see where that goes. I won't talk about the actual movies themselves because I'm assuming everyone has seen them by now. Here's my two cents on it: The Box: The thing is made of plastic. The handle on top of the briefcase rotates like a normal briefcase would. The shield logo lights up when you open it. It actually does look very nice. The inside is also very nicely done. Discs sit nicely in their spots on the side, the SHIELD folder sits on a shelf on the upper part and the area surrounding the tesseract has a good enough level of detail that I proudly display it next to my Mark VII bust. There are lights on the inside of the case that make it look like the tesseract is lighting up as well. The batteries to this are fairly easily accessible and since it's an LED light they will last. I'm very happy with the box itself, definitely display worthy unless you've got $600 ultra detailed models on display already (because this will not fit in). It looks great next to my Iron Man Mark VII bust. The Goodies: The tesseract is a white cube that flashes blue (same colour light as the box) when you hit it. Hit it twice and it becomes a rave cube (quick flashes) which stop after about 30 seconds. It looks okay light up. The SHIELD Dossiers are really neat. They do feel like the kind of documents you'd expect SHIELD to have. Bio on each avenger, powers, recommendation for avengers initiative, etc. Each dossier has one or more neat little souvenirs in them. Stark's has the Mark 1 drawing from the cave, Captain's has one of the trading cards, etc. There is also a very simple cypher/puzzle for you to figure out for a sneak peak at the avengers phase 2. You can find that sneak peak on youtube if you want -- it's really nothing special. I found these dossiers to be really awesome and it's my favourite part of the set. The Discs The discs are packaged in envelopes. Normally this would cause me to return the box set but they are very glossy to the point where I highly doubt they will scratch the disc significantly at any point in time. The artwork is also very nice on each of them. You'll find two discs in the Captain America, Iron Man 2 and Avengers envelopes for the 3D blu ray and there is an extra SHIELD blu ray for more bonus features. Disc Content I don't have a 3D blue ray player nor do I intend to ever have one, so I can't judge the quality of those. However, it seems that they are all repackagings of the normal blu rays sold seperately, as many movies frequently reference The Avengers coming next fall and there is a trailer for the box set of the avengers that I currently own on the avengers disc. First of all, I would like to say that the guy who made the menu system on each of these should be banned from ever touching a computer. Half of the time I had to restart the discs because the menus themselves wouldn't load (the background animations would, the play, special features, set up, etc buttons would not). Furthermore, only the avengers remembered where I left off and it took me 3 minutes to get to the movie every time I booted the disc. The avengers had previews for movies beginning with an advertisement for the box set that I bought right from the start unless I pressed the menu button -- I paid for the movie to not have ads thanks. The Incredible Hulk pushes the envelope by being incredibly bad by throwing a mandatory (and long) attempt to connect to the internet on startup despite the fact that as far as I could tell, it had no blu ray live features. The special features on the movie discs are all the same: commentary, deleted scenes, featurettes with the creators talking about the movies, maybe some concept art/animations that aren't fully rendered and possibly a short SHIELD related skit if the movie had one as promo footage. What I got from the featurettes is that, with the exception of Iron Man and Hulk, the creators had no idea what to do with the characters past the first few issues and just rolled with responses from the fans and that the characters we see in the movies are people finally realizing why people like the characters in the first place. The SHIELD disc (the extra one) has a few more deleted scenes from each movie that weren't on the other discs, a few more promo videos that were also missing and movie previews. I feel that there is no reason for this disc to exit. The content on it has no business being anywhere but on the blu ray of the movie it belongs to. Someone please shoot the guy who created these disks. Up until now I've known blu ray discs to be completely awesome. These disks not only show me how bad and annoying blu ray menus can be, but they stack up with my worst experiences with horribly crafted DVD menus. Overall: This box set really contains nothing noteworthy in terms of movie content on disc. The only reason anyone should consider it is to put it on display and/or go through the physical SHIELD dossiers. If this does not appeal to you, go buy the blu rays seperately. You could probably get them all for $60-$80. I have no regrets. The quality of the menus makes me not want to buy future marvel marvel home releases. I want to be able to hit play and watch the movie -- a 2-3 minute wait time is not cool. I don't care how awesome your intro animation is, it's only cool the first time.
