  1. I will not judge until more official information come forth but a rerelease of the St. Louis show without the missing material is unacceptable. I took a pass on the Hemispheres set for obvious reasons, bought the debut 40th, the 2112 40th (even the blue vinyl re-issue), the AFTK 40th. Got all the vinyl re-issues up to HYF but if I don't get a complete PeW show and then a complete MP show next year - I'm out.

What you said... If this is true, then it's missing the mark, especially since it was reported years back that they recorded a few shows to release, but then decided to record Moving Pictures. Come guys, the "vault" has to have SOME more live stuff!!!

  2. The female DJ (forget her name...Dusty?) just intro'd The Camera Eye...

    **ATWAS version of By-Tor starts**

    :eh: :eyeroll:

Dusty Street.... She used to be located at the RnR HOF studio.

My wife made the comment today that this is the most songs in a row that she's seen me air drum to while driving! :rfl:

  3. Jim Ladd just announced they have extended the Rush tribute channel to next Wednesday. How many times have they decided to extend it? It’s kind of amusing how they keep changing the date. I believe it speaks to the listening audience they are getting and the demand in general for it to keep going.

They really should just make it permanent and be done with it. There’s clearly going to be a high demand for quite a while...

Wow! I heard at one point yesterday that they were only extending it to Sunday!

Was sitting waiting for my wife to get out of an appointment, and heard the whole Fountain of Lamneth on the channel! I can now say I've heard EVERYTHING from Caress of Steel on it!

  4. I love all the lyrics more than ever. They also take on new meaning. I used to put Rush in the top five greatest bands ever. Now I think they are number one more than Beatles more than The Who more than Led Zeppelin

Well the thing is (at least for me) that once I gave the album a few spins, I've always listened to the lyrics with a deep sense of scrutiny, and have always loved the fact that his lyrics were on the level of a book author, rather than a rock lyricist. Some of that stuff is DEEEEP! I had an old friend that was a high school English teacher, and she used to use his lyrics in her poetry classes (and she really wasn't much of a Rush fan, but she LOVED the lyrics!) All good stuff!

  5. This is what funerals could turn into...

    jesus how tasteless.

That's disgraceful and, you're right, utterly tasteless. No class. No dignity. Venal is what it is.

Do you guys know what anagram that completely defines irony?

    FUNERAL

    REAL FUN

I figured that out on my own but I'm sure many know it.

When we had a career day when I was in high school, we were told to write a business model for one of the seminars we attended... my one friend and I went to a funeral director, and when we wrote up our business model the catch phrase was : And remember..... the first three letters in Funeral are FUN!! (and we had a blast with it!)

  6. When I first heard, I was on my way out of town, and didn't have an opportunity to grab anything...and my wife isn't the greatest Rush fan in the world, so I was limited. I was glad a few things popped up on social media, and the odd thing on XM (until today when Deep Tracks went total Rush)

My first CD listen will be tomorrow on my way to work, and it will be All The World's a Stage.....THAT'S the epitome of what got me hooked on Rush and Neil! Nothing will ever beat that as my "litmus test" Everything after was just major frosting on the cake!

  7. I know that Kenny Aronoff of Mellencamp, Gil Moore of Triumph, and Mike Portnoy all knew that Neil was sick the last couple years. Kudos to them for keeping it tight to the vest. Kenny said that the family was trying to arrange for himself and Neil to have dinner about a year ago, but word came back that Neil was not feeling up to it.

I'm glad that this didn't leak out, and that his and his family's privacy was kept intact! What's bugging me at the moment is the marketing of anything with his likeness on it all over social media!

  8. Listened yesterday and they played Rivendell.... Got on a little today and they announced a "tribute" channel for a while... I knew they were serious when The Necromancer was played!

I guess that's pretty deep, too!

  9. I can't remember the name of it but I remember hearing a boot from the Power Windows tour and being blown away by the clear quality of the recording. It had to be from someone who worked for the band. That's how good it was. On top of that the band sounded perfect both musically and vocally. I was in awe of how flawless the performance sounded.

Great sounding show! I was bummed though because I saw them in Baltimore rather than Philly on that tour....

I collected everything I could find years back, but sort have leveled off over the past bunch of years. I think I have at least one really good show from each tour, and pretty much stick to stuff like that when I'm in the mood (no pun intended)

  10. I've been out of touch with reality lately...just a few things on my mind, so I haven't really been keeping up with things. So at some point during the last week of April, I decided to give Neal Morse's The Similitude of a Dream another spin. When I first picked it up, there were several things that came out, or I acquired, so I didn't give it the listen I probably should have at that point. Just coming out of some different listening practices, and getting to go see Brian Wilson on tour, had me wanting to get back into something a little more proggy, so I thought this was the right album. (and for some reason, when I put my iPod on at the gym, it was cued up to a live Transatlantic album...not sure how, the last time I had it out it was playing Kansas...ok...no complaints) So after getting into the Neal Morse album, I decided to pop into his website to see if anything has developed in the live Snow release that's coming up from his Morse-fest shows (when he and Nick D'Virgilio went back to Spock's Beard, and did that whole album, plus the "epic" that they added to their "greatest hits" release) I saw that he was touring in support of his new album, when it caught my eye that he was bringing it to ROS-Fest in Gettysburg (which is like an hour from here) so I checked when, and called my wife to see if anything was planned...the best scenario happened...that was the weekend that she would be out visiting a friend in Indiana! (she hates about 99% of the music I like so taking her to a concert isn't a good thing) So I quickly grabbed a ticket! (Last year Spock's Beard played that festival, and I was out of town that day, so I missed out, so I wasn't letting this one get by!)

I was chomping at the bit to get to this show. There was also a listing for a show at 5:00 for a "special VIP" which I was wondering if it was maybe some sort of acoustic Neal Morse set that I would be kicking myself for missing...but figured if it wasn't, maybe it would be someone else special, or just expose me to some new music.

Saturday came, and I was bouncing off the walls, and was finally happy when the time came to go. I got there about 4:00-4:30-ish, and waited in the lobby. The 5:00 pm band was an offshoot of an older prog band calle Unitopia from Australia. (Don't know the name of the actual band, though, but they played mostly Unitopia music, and I heard from a rock journalist there on assignment that they were opening for Steve Hackett when he goes on tour...this was sort of a warm up for them) anyway... great music, and if I get the actual name of the band, I'll let you know....

Ran to dinner across the street while they changed the stage for Neal Morse, and watched the Kentucky Derby.... The concert started at 8:30 and the place was getting packed! If everyone would have shut up, you could have heard the sound check, but it was just a blur in the background (and I was chased away from a door trying to listen) They let everyone in about 10 minutes before the show started, and WHAT A SHOW! They played the entire new album, and NAILED it! Portnoy was on drums, and was having a blast all night. This was the first time I got to see him live, and he's fun to watch. Neal Morse is an amazing musician, and writer, and this album is really great...I'm glad I got to hear it a few times before this show.

The Overture and the Dream were off the charts, and The Man in the Iron Cage was wild! Lots of music to digest in this one, but it was all good. During the last tune of the album, his laptop seemed to die, and his keyboards stopped working, so while he had a tech come out, he just grabbed a guitar and kept playing.... when the song was over, he explained his problem, and his keyboard guy and a tech came out... he strummed his guitar and said "any requests" I quickly yelled "WE ALL NEED SOME LIGHT!" before anyone else got anything out, and he actually started playing it!!! he did the first verse and chorus, when he noticed his laptop re-booted, and his keyboard started to work again....bummer...I wish it stayed broken, I might have gotten the whole tune!l (but I at least got that!)

He sailed through his last song from the Grand Experiment album, and that was it!

I guess it was some sort of "divine intervention" that got me to go to this show. Talk about a whim! So, to whatever force got me to listen to his new album, and cued up Transatlantic on my iPod THANK YOU! If I would have missed this, I would have been pissed!! IF you get a chance to see this show, don't pass it up, some CRAZY playing going on, on stage! I overheard a conversation at the show, and the guy said "he isn't as into him since he got 'all religious', but he's still a good player, and I was coming anyway".... OK, who cares...the message changed, but the music is still off the charts! Not sure why the mention of "Jesus" makes people so nervous? When Iron Maiden started yelling 666 it wasn't so bad!

Ok.... Just an update on stuff that I've found since this show happened... I saw a little information from a few odd sources about UNIT dB, and where they came from (Unitopia) and I was able to find a setlist from the show I saw, and actually find some of their music. So the past week, I've been listening to their stuff and HOLY CRAP! I LOVE it! I mean I loved hearing what I heard when I saw them live, but after giving things a critical listen, I am totally a fan! (although they aren't together anymore) but I've picked up their entire output and Amazon lets you listen to the Mp3 versions, and I'm amazed! I'm So glad I got to see this band live, and hear what I heard, and now that I can relive it, it's great!! (the other offshoot band is Southern Empire which is another great band, get their stuff!)

  11. I've been chastised on these boards before for saying it, but I would never go see a Rush tribute band..... just not something that I feel would ever give me any satisfaction, closure, etc.

I've seen a few Pink Floyd tribute acts (Australian Pink Floyd, Brit Floyd, The Machine) and I can only take them in small increments....

The only tribute act I saw that was AMAZING was the Genesis tribute act The Musical Box! THEY were off the charts amazing, and it was more like a "theatrical" production since they re-created the entire Lamb Lies Down on Broadway show! OMG I felt like I was at a genesis show!

I used to jam with a few local guys that played in several local bar bands that would just take a day, and jam through Rush, Floyd, Genesis, UK, Grateful Dead, Yes, etc. on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon when we were bored... have a few beers, and just have a blast. None of us ever wanted to do the tribute thing, but we just had fun playing the music.

  12. I listened to it today too. I would agree it's their strongest album since Power Windows.

I had it on in the car yesterday, and The Anarchist is over the top! But I DO like it more than I did when it first came out. I liked it live, but still wasn't "bought in" to it at the time.

  13. Of the "newer" albums;

Vapor Trails had some moments, but it's not the first one I grab....

I like MOST of Snakes and Arrows, It took me seeing some of the songs live a few times before they really caught on with me..but maybe like two or three don't sit well. Armour and Sword is one of my favorites... although a lot of people seem to not like that one?!?

At first I wasn't thrilled with Clockwork Angels, but the more I heard it (and experiencing it live several times) I REALLY started to like it a lot!
