  1. Thanks folks... After reading the responses here and a quick call to the venue to more or less "gauge the barometer" of what it would be like as it pertains to "drunken fukwits", I'm going for it. Why the hell not? Of course, I'm hoping the guys get the album completed and get back to San Antonio pronto so we can sit and watch inside... FWIW, the kids are pretty evenly split between Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Test For Echo and Vapor Trails... And, my oldest, "the G" gets pissed whenever anyone talks during Jacob's Ladder, the youngest sings Dog Years really loudly, and the middle one is baffled Geddy (The Gedster? Gedley? Glee?) can play bass, keys and sing at once, so I guess they ready ARE ready, lol... My son was initially gravely concerned that Neal didn't play ALL his drums, as we watch the Test For Echo/Work in Progress DVD lot's and we never quite noticed him hit the tiny 6" or 8" splash on top of the ride... UNTIL we finally saw it get hit I think at the end of "Virtuality" (or whatever song is last on the disk...)... Then he said... "Wow. I guess he does. He is the best drummer..."
  2. Ok. Me and Mrs. Crunch are going to see the guys in San Antonio. Niiiiiiiiiiiiice. However, we're thinking about bringing the entire family to see them in Houston, and sitting lawn seating. Thoughts? Kids are 9/11/13. Rush always seemed to possess a slightly more intellectual crowd (read: not terribly annoying), but will it be some kinda crazy drunken idiot party back there, can one actually SEE from back there, or can we expect a pretty good time? (whoops, my youngest just a birthday - Mrs. Crunch is now mocking me. Crap.)
  3. I have really good memories of listening to 2112 and All The World's A Stage on 8 track... Used to kind of annoy me that sometimes songs had to segue from one track to the next, but I also remember not minding the trade off in sonic quality for not having to flip lp's... Of course, now, it's a massive TREAT to listen to the older parts of the catalog on lp... How many of the albums do you have on 8 track?!?!?!
  4. My initial guess was that when using in-ears he has too much ambient sound from the kit making it really hard to hear bass/guitar/keys/vocal cues at tolerable levels, so by going close-ear, he can hear infinitely better without killing himself. I've always thought in-ears worked great for vocals/in front of the kit, but behind the kit, it was easier to have wedge monitors or, in a great situation, closed-ear headphones to keep from blowing my head off... ...or, the gump just knows a helluva lot more about El Pearto than I do... lol...
  5. Thanks folks. I am REALLY looking forward to it, so is Mrs. Crunch. I really, really like the last two albums, which is saying something for me. I totally abandoned the guys during the keyboard era, but I find there are a few gems hidden away there as well... Of course, I wish they weren't smashed to smithereens in mastering (over L2'd - these are SERIOUSLY distorted albums, practically unplayable on our studio monitors... - surely they weren't tracked to the point of distortion?!?!?) but there's some great songs there... I flat out don't believe Rush should concern themselves with "commercially loud", they are one of the few bands left where I believe people listen to the albums in entirety, not just for few... The volume knob works just fine, thanks folks... My rant is over, for now. xoxo
  6. Greetings! Yeah, my first post! Woohoooooo! Parrrrrrr-teeeeeeeeeeee! Ahem. I will try to compose myself. I will behave. <coughcough> Anyway, just got me and my beloved gabby garcia's tickies to the show in San Antonio. (Because Austin is far too self-involved to host another Rush show, that, and there's no place large enough). So I thought I'd post, although I'm essentially just some bum on the internet trying to get everyone to buy into my latest pyramid scheme. Bring cash. I kid, I kid... Anyway, really excited to see the guys play live again! It's been around 28 years since I saw them last, but really, who's counting? I saw the intro on youtube, pretty much cried from laughing, so awesome. They're now also my favorite actors... I have all their albums, cds etc... I also like unicorns and rainbows. We should all meet at the mall! Ok, nevermind, I said I'd behave and I meant it, dammit! And, because of that video, Gabby bought us tickets and tshirts. It will be nice to be in a place where other people like rush too. And not be shunned, etc... Not like at the forum I designed and run, with a bunch of other pro audio bozos: http://thewombforums.com Anyway, my name is crunch, stop by and heckle those bums!!!! Tell 'em I sent ya! Make them listen to Caress of Steel! Over and over! Until their eyes bleed! Please don't ban me from your forum. xoxo
