  1. Anyone receive signed items back from the Oct 12th Wells Fargo Center show? I sent my sons vinyl copy of 2112 to be signed, wanted to give it to him as an X-mas gift this year, but I haven't gotten anything back yet. It's been 2 weeks, I am starting to give up hope.

Still nothing from the Oct 12th Wells Fargo Center show :-(

  3. I thought that the strings in YY was a highlight of the show for me, it worked so well...wouldn't want to have them on every tour, but t fits on this tour and it adds a new dimension to a few songs that we have all heard 1000 times before.
  4. In Newark last night they had signs up about no recording and no "professional " cameras.

My 13 year old son was using his iPod touch to video some of the songs and an usher came buy once and asked him to stop. She never came back to check on him after that.

I took a ton of pictures with my point and shoot camera and no one seemed to care.

So many people with phones taking pictures and videos all night.

I will have my point and shoot camera with me in Brooklyn tomorrow night too, don't expect any issues.

  5. We were in section 17, all the way off to the side of the stage, it was great because we were really close to the band (on Alex's side) but I definitely missed the experience of seeing the full show from the front.

Tomorrow night I am on Geddy's side close to the stage, so I will be seeing the show from both sides, just not from the front this tour!

As for the "gremlins" it was a bass pedal, not a drumhead. we had a great view from our angle...I saw the drum tech bring in a spare and stand behind Neil with it, and then he was trying to fix it for for most of the song, after the song was over, Neil stepped out from the Drums and let the tech swap the pedal.

This was our angle to the stage...

  6. QUOTE (WIDE-ANGLE WATCHER @ Oct 14 2012, 08:40 PM)
    I have two boys,  18 and 12....

My big one is an academic master, in his first year of college. Bio-medicine major....Skies the limit...... No musical aspirations.....

My little one, dumb as a rock, struggling through middle school.  Plays drums and guitar and 'Knows Neil as a God'.....

So...... Yes....I am very proud also....on 'hmmm'.... different levels.

My oldest son, is almost 14, and plays guitar (like me). He is does really well in school (90's and above) and he is in a band, singing and playing lead guitar. Rush and Van Halen are pretty much all he listens to!

I took him to see Rush on the Time Machine tour, and to see VH at MSG this past March...he's going this Saturday night with me to see Rush in Newark...but he doesn't know it yet! (there's a thread about it HERE if you want to know more).

Cant wait to see the look on his face when he finds out!!

  7. QUOTE (Thunder Bay Rush @ Oct 14 2012, 10:06 PM)
When my youngest daughter was only about 4, she could recite and precisely rap along to the rap section in Roll The Bones. She's 23 now and she still does it.

    Darn Rush kids... yes.gif

Roll the Bones is my youngest son's favorite song (he's 8, and he like to rap along with it too!)

  8. On our way home from dinner tonight my 9 years old son (middle of my 3 boys) asked if I could put o "War Paint" for the drive home, which I did. we both sang it together all teh way home.

He then told me that Spirit of Radio is his favorite Rush song, 2112 is his second favorite and that War Paint is is third favorite.

I couldn't be prouder of the brainwashing job I have done on my boys :-)

    I had to share!

  9. QUOTE (HalfwayToGone @ Oct 8 2012, 08:37 AM)
    You're a great dad!

Thanks for saying that. I like rewarding my kids when they make the right decisions. I actually have 3 sons (8, 9 and 13) all of them are into music (my two oldest are also playing guitar now, following in my footsteps) and going to concerts has started getting very expensive since they all want to go with me when I go. Earlier this year, I took my two oldest and my wife to see Van Halen at MSG...4 decent seats to that show cost me about $600, plus a few $40 t-shirts, parking dinner before the show and snacks at the show, it was close to a $900 night!

But seeing your kids rock out to the same music I was into at their age is priceless!

  10. I got tickets for the Brooklyn NY show the day they went on sale...3 tickets, one for me, one for my 13 year old son and one for a friend.

I have pretty much turned my son into a Rush fanatic (I'm very proud of that by the way) and he was really excited about the show. This would be his second Rush show, I took him to the Time Machine tour show at Jones Beach when he was 11.

A few weeks ago, we found out that my son was invited to attend a 3 day trip with his school, but he would be leaving Monday, Oct 22nd...the same day as the Rush show.

I told him that the trip was a once in a life time opportunity and that there would be other Rush shows... I let it be his ultimate decision, and it was a difficult decision for him, but he reluctantly choose to go on the trip.

He told me he didn't even want a T-shirt from the show, and he didn't want me to tell him anything about the show (including the set list) because he is hoping that they will do a second leg in 2013 and he made me promise to take him to see the band then.

Well, last night I decided to get tickets for the two of us to go to the show at the Prudential Center on Oct 20th. I was able to get 2 good tickets on the side of the stage in Section 17...Alex's side.

My son doesn't know, I am going to surprise him.

Best of all, I get to go both nights and hopefully see both set lists :-) My tickets for the Brooklyn show are in a similar spot on Geddy's side, so I will be able to see the show from both perspectives.

Feeling pretty good right now, and I know I am going to blow his mind! Just had to share.

  11. Got this in the mail today from the Palace in MI. I had sent a silver sharpie hoping they would use it, but I am not complaining :-)

  12. Through jobs that I have had, I have been fortunate to have met many of my musical heroes over the years. I got to meet Geddy back in 1987 and he was a really nice guy who seemed very interested to talk to me and also seemed sincerely appreciative of how big a fan I was. It was in a studio setting, not a formal meet ad greet so it was more laid back and he was not on guard.

Just about everyone I have met in a professional setting / via my work has been the same way...with one major exception....Dont even get me started on the night I met David Gilmour back in 1988...I'm still stinging from that disappointment...talk about a hero letting you down...sheesh :-)

  13. I first discovered Rush in the time period between the releases of Moving Pictures and Signals...the first song I heard from them that peaked my interest was Xanadu. Signals was the first "new" Rush album I was a fan for and I was hooked immediately. I then went back and became a fan of everything from the first album forward and I also kept up with every new album as it came out.

My favorite period of Rush's career is 2112 through Moving Pictures, followed closely by Signals through Power Windows. I liked the Hold Your Fire through Snakes and Arrows albums, and I LOVE the new album. I consider myself to be a HARD CORE fan, I like it all, but I love some more than others.

I couldn't be happier with the set list. I have heard most of the "hit" songs many times over, tour after tour...over the last few tours, I have often said to myself, wouldn't it be cool to hear a song like Big Money again, or some other songs like Analog Kid, etc. I never bitched about it on the internet (thats not my style) but I also accepted that Alex has spoken very publicly about his not liking that his guitar was taking a back seat to all the synths, so I figured the songs from that era were pretty much retired from their set lists going forward.

Getting to hear a song like Territories live again is a dream come true for a fan like me (as was Marathon on the last tour). I would have made a few different choices if it were up to me (don't really need to hear Bravado, but I get that some love it) but I also don't need to see Working Man again, or 2112, or even Limelight if I get to hear some deep cuts that haven't been played in years.

All that said, I will cry if they don't play TSOR at the Barclay center show...it's my personal fav!
