  1. Best I Can

    Making Memories

    The Necromancer

    Lessons

    Something for Nothing

    Cinderella Man

    The Enemy Within

    Vapor Trail

    Sweet Miracle

    Nocturne

While I think The Enemy Within is fairly well received, in discussions of songs from that era or even that album, I see it is often overshadowed by other songs and not recognized for being as great as it is.

  2. Interesting thread to bring back. The Rush in my top 25:

    1. YYZ - 286 plays

    2. Malignant Narcissism - 263 plays

    3. YYZ (Rush in Rio) - 185 plays

    4. YYZ (S&A Live) - 182 plays

    9. BU2B - 73 plays

    13. Hemispheres - 66 plays

    14. Working Man Vault Edition - 64 plays

    17. Caravan - 63 plays

    18. Leave That Thing Alone - 61 plays

    20. La Villa Strangiato - 59 plays

    22. YYZ (An R30 bootleg) - 56 plays

    24. Freewill - 56 plays

    Some other fun facts:

Across the 6 versions of YYZ on my iPod, I have 748 total plays of the song.

My total plays of instrumental songs (YYZ, Mal Nar, LTTA, La Villa) including various live versions is 1,266.

  3. Sometimes I almost feel bad for always voting for Hemispheres in all these polls. Best album? Best epic song? Best title track? etc. But I think it's all true, Hemispheres really is the pinnacle.

Though sometimes, if I know Hemispheres will win anyway, I'll give my vote to another choice I like just to help an underdog wink.gif

  4. While it's not my most favorite, I'll rank an album that I really enjoy and that I don't expect to be commonly used here.

    1. Vapor Trail

    2. Freeze

    3. Ghost Rider

    4. Peaceable Kingdom

    5. Sweet Miracle

    6. One Little Victory

    7. Earthshine

    8. Nocturne

    9. How It Is

    10. The Stars Look Down

    11. Ceiling Unlimited

    12. Secret Touch

    13. Out of the Cradle

This was tough for me because I really like a lot of these songs, but at about an equal level, with no clear standouts.

  5. After some time, my list has been settled into this for a while now:

    1. The Anarchist

    2. Tie: Clockwork Angels, Seven Cities of Gold

    3. Caravan

    4. Headlong Flight

    5. BU2B

    6. Carnies

    7. Wish Them Well

    8. The Garden

    9. Halo Effect

    10. The Wreckers

  6. I actually prefer the vault edition to the original one, which might be because it's the one I heard first. Gasp! I know. But when I was first getting into Rush a few years ago, my introduction to Working Man was with the vault edition and so I got used to that one. I hardly ever listen to the original, as that's the one that sounds weird to me. laugh.gif

And in terms of live versions, I have to go with Time Machine, which is just amazing to watch. That solo section is some of the fiercest playing I've ever seen from them, and I'm blown away by it every time.

  7. Xbox: Cerberus System. If you want to invite me, just send a message with it letting me know you're from here.

The main game I'd like to play online is Rock Band 3. Also wouldn't mind Mass Effect 3, GTA 4, Red Dead Redemption, Saints Row 3, Assassin's Creed, Mortal Kombat. Got a bunch of XBL Arcade games as well, including Minecraft. I'm not really a fan of COD, not something I'd prefer to play, though I do own MW3.

On PC, the only thing I'm really playing right now is Diablo 3, which I just recently got. I also play Killing Floor occasionally. I'm very much looking forward to Guild Wars 2 coming out this month, I'll be playing a lot of that. Most likely Torchlight 2 also.

  8. I got the game recently, really enjoying it so far. I was a big D2 fanatic back in the day, and so far this one does seem to hold up.

So far I've only played alone, if anyone wants to play let me know. I'm currently a level 19 Wizard, just reached the sewers in Act 2.

  9. Oh Goobs, not picking a song from VT... laugh.gif We can always count on you to be you.

  10. QUOTE (GeddyLeeRoth @ Aug 2 2012, 02:33 AM)
Holy crap you dragged out an old poll!

Wow, yeah. But hey, since it's already here...

Easy choice for me: Fly By Night. I consistently place it at the #2 spot in my album rankings, that's how much I love it. I think the absolutely amazing lineup of Anthem, Best I Can, BB&B, By-Tor, and Fly By Night is pretty damn hard to beat. Though it may have that sort of "early" feeling, the songs are still classics and represent some of what I love best about Rush. Making Memories is an often overlooked gem that I really enjoy (with a great bassline!) I know Rivendell takes a lot of flak, it is the clear weak link, but I don't think it's bad, certainly not enough to drag down the album in any way. It's a decent enough shot at making that kind of song. In the End seems like a refugee from the first album, but is a solid rocker.

I do like Caress of Steel as well, but for me it's just no contest between these two. COS places at about 8th or 9th for me. I enjoy the epics the most, and I seem to have a higher opinion of The Necromancer than most, as it's probably my favorite on the album, with the incredible instrumental display in the middle portion. It took me a while to warm up to The Fountain of Lamneth, but now I really like it. Bastille Day is good but not great, and Lakeside Park and I Think I'm Going Bald are just okay. So it's a good album, but it just can't stand up to the barrage of excellence that FBN provides. In fact, I'd argue that COS in places sounds more raw or unpolished than FBN. Though I like the epics, it always strikes me how they seem to be made up of completely separate parts that were stuck together, with no real connection between them.
