  1. Too much Spider-Man. It could end up being a fun movie, but this trailer does not excite me at all. It's got to be better than the last three Spider-Man movies. Right?

Right. Currently, Spidey flicks have 2-3 record with me.

    Bad = Spidey 3 > Crap > Amazing Spidey 1 > Amazing Spidey 2

Not sure if it's "too much Spider-Man" though. It'll be the 6th Spidey flick in fifteen years compared to 6 Middle Earth movies in thirteen years and 8 Harry Potter films in ten.

I still think they should abandon Spider Man altogether and get Watchmen back on track.

It's impossible to properly do Watchmen in 2 or 3 hours. You couldn't even really do it in 3 parts. Watchmen would need to be a mini-series with no limitations on graphic violence or sexual content.

I feel that so much of the movie was so right and so wrong at the same time. I still like it but I understand most of the criticism it gets.

Best way to do it would be to have a 12 part Netflix miniseries complete with the articles at the end of each chapter. That way there would be no constraint on episode length.

  2. When they reprinted these for the Star Trek 50th anniversary it was an insta-buy for me.

I considered this set from the Franklin Mint when it first came out, but at this point in my life, I can't be bothered with learning the 'new' rules and such. My EX bro-in-law had one, don't know if he still does. NO connection with My EX-wife's family at all now. I DO have a first edition REGULAR chess set, normal format but with silver and gold plated figures on a glass and silver metal playing board. I still have THAT.

I didn't know that was a thing. Very nice!

  3. btw tick, you may remember that I was taking guesses as to the correct date of your reaching 26k. Additionally, I was donating 26,000 strips of bacon to the TRFer with the correct guess. Unfortunately, nobody guessed the correct date so no prize was given.

Here were the three closest guesses:

    Me: December 13th, 2016

    Lorraine: Decmeber 16th, 2016

    vaportrailer: December 25th, 2016

The other 73,956 guesses that were submitted to me were not even remotely close. But here are some of the messages sent to me with their guesses:

"I think he's going to reach 26k on February 31st, 1358 B.C. and I don't care if you hate me for that." - fraroc

    "Lita Ford" - YYZumbi

"Check this out mate: [1979 nude photo of Farrah Faucet bending over in her garden and watering some bush (foliage that is)]" - treeduck

That was very funny. :laughing guy: Thank you for the early morning laugh.

By the way Johnny, you ought to give yourself a prize for being the closest.

I say Fraroc gets it. He was the closest without going over :P

    ((psst...hey...there is no February 31st)) :hail: ;)

If you fix that clerical error it becomes early match. It's fine. Fraroc was drunk, but correct :D-13: :smoke:

Did you at least enjoy William Dafoe as Green Goblin?

I'm personally looking forward to this. Toby Maguire can't ruin spidey/peter with his inability to act as a human being and I felt they captured Spidey pretty well with what little they showed in Civil War.

I don't want it myself but it'd be a cool gift.

Definitely a hell of a gift. Thing is it's insanely expensive for what it is at the full price on the Star Trek site. I got lucky and snagged the last copy for cheap from a board game shop.

What's nice is that it actually has a rulebook. It will never replace a proper game of chess but it's nice to be able to pull it off of the shelf and actually play it every so often. So it's not just a showpiece.

Given that there's a Klingon language learning book, I figured you could actually play chess on that.

I'm picturing some doughy looking geek in Spock ears and matching uniform sitting behind that board and putting the pic up on their Facebook wall.

If you're thinking that's me I'm sorry to say you're quite far from reality with that one. I don't post much of anything on facebook and I don't own much else in terms of Trek stuff beyond DVDs. As for doughy... by the end of the holidays I think that will apply.

  8. The game was hilarious. As much as I'd like a remake of it, I'd rather Rockstar remake GTA: Vice City or at least a return to that setting/aesthetic.

    Yes it was.

I have not played GTA yet, is it any good?

    Which one?

Any of the games, is the series good at all?

    - Vice City really shows its age. It was fantastic at the time but it has not aged well at all. It's a shame because the world and setting are amazing. Story was good too drawing from Scarface and Miami Vice

    - San Andreas: Many people say it's the best one. I haven't played it so I can't comment

    - 4: Bland world, mediocre mechanics, characters don't make sense given what you're doing (Niko feels bad for what he's doing while the player is mowing down countless enemies with a machine gun)

    - 5: Would recommend. It has flaws but the single player is very enjoyable

  9. ...ends with the Enterprise crashing into San Francisco.

That wasn't the Enterprise. The Enterprise (barely) survived Into Darkness.

Both Kirks had their Enterprises beat to hell in their second movie. Both Kirks lost their Enterprises in their third movie. Of all the complaints I see about the new Trek movies, I don't understand the complaint that the Enterprise keeps getting destroyed. It just doesn't. The alternate reality Enterprises have been destroyed at about the same pace as the prime reality ones.

The Wrath of Kahn, The Search for Spock, The Undiscovered Country, Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis, Trek'09, Into Darkness and Beyond have all ended with either a destroyed, or severely damaged Enterprise.

If anyone has a bad record with getting Enterprises beat up in movies... it's Picard.

Whoops my bad. I was falling asleep by the end of Into Darkness.

Oh god movie Picard was a psychopath. In the series he was the calm, calculating diplomat who despite becoming locutus felt sympathy for a drone. Suddenly in First Contact he's the Terminator of Starfleet that shows no mercy.

  10. I'm not a huge Metallica fan. On my first listen only Hardwired and Moth to the Flame really stood out and found that about half of the songs sounded samey/cookie cutter metal... which is great when I need fast paced tracks and stay focused on a late night of work so I kept it playing.

Since then I'd say Spit out the Bone is fantastic. I love the section at the end where it goes "Stop breathing and dedicate to me...", Lords of Summer also being pretty good and Atlas Rise being part of the better half of the album.

I still think Moth to the Flame is the best song on the album but I think the hype machine is still in full force here.

  11. Is Star Trek Beyond worth watching or is the reboot verse beyond repair? I haven't checked it out yet because of the generic trailers and title and how bad Star Trek Into Reference was.

That's why I've skipped it too. But a lot of TRFers have sworn to its goodness.

Might be worth checking out then. This Kirk is goddamn incompetent though. The second movie starts with a slapstick "lol we just violated the prime directive what could go wrong it seemed ok" moment, and ends with the Enterprise crashing into San Francisco. The trailers for Beyond then goes about boasting about how Kirk gets the thing destroyed again.

Maybe Starfleet needs to find a better captain. At least Shatner made it the 5 year mission and 3 movies before blowing it up.

  12. Fair enough. they recently changed the order of the movies surrounding the Infinity Gauntlet movie now that it's one part again.

Yeah and The Inhumans movie was first set for 2019 then 2020 then shelved and now who knows where it is? Is it burrowing in the sphincter of Agents of Shield or something? Too bad really. They'd best be used in a Fantastic Four movie...but those movies have all been total garbage. Fox needs to be tossed in one of Doctor Doom's dungeons for all eternity. All Marvel characters should be under the control of the MCU. But yeah, I know that won't be happening anytime soon. Or maybe never will happen

I disagree. Deadpool, X-Men First Class and Days of Future Past were excellent movies that Disney would have never allowed to happen as they were. While as a whole Fox is not top tier with their movies it's nice to see movies that don't really keep the kiddies and merchandise in mind.

I'm still rather bitter than Disney forced Whedon to make Ultron as he is as opposed to having him be ultra threatening like Whedon mentioned in early interviews. Don't want to be scaring the kiddies. I wouldn't be too surprised if they also made him put in all of those painfully unnecessary cameos either. Doesn't seem like Whedon's style.

I think my (possibly hasty) comment/hope that all those movies should be under the MCU comes from a few angles:

    1) I'd like to see various interactions between characters like Wolverine and Cap, Wolverine and Spidey, Thing and Hulk, Reed Richards and Tony Stark, etc. Of course this can't happen given the separation of Fox and the MCU.

    2) My general distaste for those Fox superhero films. Since the MCU started, Fox has put out two Wolverine movies (both of which weren't good, the first being absolute garbage), First Class (ok), Days of Future Past (very good), Apocalypse (crap), Fantastic Four reboot (one of the worst superhero flicks ever), and Deadpool (which I haven't seen). Not including Deadpool and counting my 'ok' rating of First Class as a 'win', my record with them is only 2-4. On a side note, I'm not happy with some of the casting choices in the later 3 X-Men films besides Fassbender and MacAvoy.

I wasn't fully satisfied with Age of Ultron either. But I still count it as a 'win' overall.

I agree that Deadpool wasn't the best of movies, but it's a refreshing change which probably makes it seem better than it is so I enjoyed it thoroughly even on the second watch. I hope they improve on what they built in the sequel.

I recommend you check out the trailer for the Old Man Logan film. It looks promising. Again, something that would never be greenlit under Disney.

  13. Hate the album art almost to the point of not buying it but I caved. :eyeroll: Hope it is good. I liked DM despite the brickwalling. I wish it had better sound because the songs themselves are pretty good. I heard this one has better sound. Wasn't that someone on here?

The youtube clips are defnitely better overall compared to DM.

There was a guitar hero version of DM that went around the torrent sites back when that sounded much better than the official release. The mastering (final) step seems to be where most of the damage to DM was done.

Indeed. MUCH more listenable this way.

Yep. Guitar Hero and Rock Band need the isolated tracks to do what they do. The mix changes depending on which instruments are being played and if they're hitting the notes/whammying/using star power. One guy ran the isolated tracks through audacity and unsurprisingly it sounds better because those don't brick wall.

  15. It depends on where you check. I took this list from one of the sites I looked today:

    Thor: Ragnarok

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

    Avengers: Infinity War

    Spider-Man: Homecoming

    Black Panther

    Ant-Man and The Wasp

    Avengers 4

    Captain Marvel

    May 1st, 2020 - Untitled Marvel Movie

    July 10th, 2020 - Untitled Marvel Movie 2

    November 6th 2020 - Untitled Marvel Movie 3

The order of this one is off. That is, if it was intended to be in order.

The next 3 movies are Guardians 2, Spider-Man and Thor.

Then we've got Infinity War, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Avengers 4
