How can anyone still get excited by seeing The Spirit Of Radio? I've only seen Rush twice (VT and TM) and I'm already ready for it to go. I'll definitely take it over WM though.

QUOTE (Thunder Bay Rush @ Sep 15 2012, 08:55 AM) OMFG! I don't believe what I'm reading... a Rush fan actually acknowledging that there is a better drummer out there than Neil? And, a 16 year old, even?
Dude, thanks!! It's nice to see someone putting mind before heart... I LOVE Neil, but, Jesus Christ - this guy is unreal.
Check out this one tOo - Tony Royster Jr., when he was 12. Same deal - stunnintechnique at - AGE 12!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPncumXZExoHaha, thanks man. I love Rush but I've always found Neil to be incredibly overrated as a drummer. Many have that mentality that 'bigger drumset = better drummer' which is not always true.
Dylan Elise is the best I've ever seen and I've been drumming for over 18 years.

QUOTE (Akron162 @ Sep 15 2012, 02:26 PM) Playing fast and playing loud with a lot of drummstick tricks is not necesarily playing well. ...but he is playing well....?
His grooves are complex and tasteful and his precision and accuracy is unmatched. The first clip had him playing ridiculous patterns in brushes which is a difficult skill to learn and something that most jazz drummers have in their repertoire. I'm sure he'd be incredible in any band.
I hate how people assume a drum solo not by Neil Peart is "showing off and bombastic"...it's a solo, it's supposed to be showy and over-the-top.

Dude is unreal. No drummer I've ever seen (except perhaps Virgil Donati) has pulled off shit like that. His technique is superb and his ideas are creative. Neil's good but he's not even in the same universe as this kid.

Anyone into this band? They've had two songs playing on the radio recently (Everybody Talks and Animals) and are starting to get pretty popular.
They're an amazing band. They seem to be influenced by a lot of 80's music, especially the new-wave and dance-pop stuff, but manage to sound fresh and modern as well. I've been playing the hell out of their 2 albums for the past few weeks and remain as thrilled with them as ever! I also caught them live in Allentown on Tuesday and was blown away by their live show...they might be the first band I've ever seen live where the singer absolutely NAILS all his vocal parts (and his vocals are demanding).
Here's some stuff to check out...I hope they get more recognition as they are truly talented.

I went to an old Italian market in Brooklyn once and got a thing of cherry peppers filled with prosciutto and provolone. I could eat them forever...they are SO good.

Mystic Rhythms
Middletown Dreams
The Big Money

WOW!!! I cannot wait.
I'm hesitant to get too thrilled for that teaser though. Dexter has been notorious with misleading the hell out of its viewers with clips like this. And this current mash-up could be edited together to make it seem WAY more crazy than it really is.

Great band.
Chino is one of the most unique singers, in that even when he's singing completely out of key, he still sounds great.

QUOTE (Mara @ Aug 11 2012, 11:54 AM) Pleeaaase no more Witch Hunt. I'm sooooo tired of that one! I have this tickling in the back of my balls that says they're going to play all 4 Fear songs this time.
I'm sick of Witch Hunt as well, but if it means I get The Weapon and The Enemy Within (and Freeze too I guess), then I'll gladly sit through it once again.
I'd be happy with all of CA too. I still can't believe how great this album is for a band that's been around so long.

I LOVE MARILLION
That is all.

"Weekend" by Neon Trees
Very 80's sounding but modern as well, reminds me of The Killers and their modern/new-wave hybrid sound

Ate raw chicken once, and I eat raw eggs all the time. I would like to attempt steak tartare.
Luckily I've been safe so far. The chicken was an accident and not something I plan on trying again.

I wouldn't mind seeing them, but I'm just bored as f**k of this setlist no matter who is in the band. The only song I'd be really excited to hear is Fly From Here to be honest, the rest I've seen a million times already.

SW is a true artist. The world needs more people like him creating.
I love PT, I love his solo stuff, I love Bass Communion, I loved IEM...this man has given me more music than maybe any other band.

Home Improvement by a mile. Finally one sitcom that wasn't afraid to be pro-male. ELR is just some emasculated doofus and a bitchy wife.
-
Banks Of Eden is superb. I'd easily rank it as one of their best albums in recent history.
Numbers might be their greatest epic aside from SWA and IATS.

QUOTE (Bangster of Goats @ Jul 14 2012, 09:06 AM) ...came out only 4 years after Moving Pictures.
For some reason this makes my brain hurt.I often think about how much change occurred in just the 5 years between AFTK and Signals.
GUP came out 10 years after their debut. The same time between VT and CA.

For the first time in many many many albums, I DON'T think there's too much singing.
And also for the first time in many many albums, Geddy has put together some really catchy vocal melodies. These songs are downright ear-candy, which makes this album really rewarding to listen to again and again.

Song Wars II
in Rush
I, but purely for Animate and Grand Designs. Not super into TTP -
I was absolutely prepared to hate this album. I haven't truly loved anything they've done since Power Windows, and the best moments since then happened way back in the early/mid 90's. I do not like S&A and really dislike VT. And Caravan and BU2B, while being a step better, didn't completely blow me away.
But then I got CA. I honestly think it's the best album they've ever made. I've listened to it perhaps 50 times since it came out. It never gets weaker, the songs are memorable (kudos to Geddy for FINALLY writing some interesting/catchy vocal melodies), the songs evolve organically and have diverse and interesting sections, and the band sounds like they're having the time of their lives.
It blows my mind that a band of 60 year olds on their 19th album can make the best album of their career.
I was SOOO ready to feel underwhelmed. I was planning on it actually. Perhaps that's why the goodness of this album has hit me so hard.
