Well, i'll speak as someone who was actually at the show.Limelight didn't seem out of place to me and wasn't " throught the motions".Because, I don't want limelight (and happily they didn't play it in Cleveland. I'm getting A in Tampa. So i'm happy.). Not only that, but the placement is horrible. Right between two synth songs.Ruins the flow. Heard MANY boots from the tour so far. Watched the Limelight video on YT. It just seemed so "through the motions."
I agree. I listened to the Buffalo show, and Limelight felt very out of place between the two PoW songs. And the performance felt very through the motions to me, too.

+1 - heard peeps rave about the inclusion of Limelight and its placement in the set. Go figure...
I'd rather Limelight over The Body Electric any day of the week. Middletown Dreams, now that's a different story! But The Body Electric is probably one of my least favourite songs of their entire catalogue, and I got the "privilege" of hearing it in Toronto. I would much rather have heard Limelight.

Now how much better is that setlist? And that's only with a few minor tweaks. This tour and setlist could have been so much better, AND catered to both hardcore and old school fans.

Probably because the setlist was garbage, for the most part.
The set list isn't garbage. You're a tool. Yes I would change out some songs, but it's a surprising list altogether.
Oh, please. The Body Electric? Territories? The Garden? Manhattan Project? I agree that some songs were great, and I'm all for a non-casual tour for the fans, but those songs? Even if you do not include The Garden due to it being a new song, The Body Electric, Territories, and Manhattan Project are all boring as hell. This is all arguable, but the 80s setlist was generally pretty boring, and the proof was all around you at the show. If they want to play obscure 80s songs, that's fine, but they could have made them FUN songs to listen to. Play Between the Wheels, Digital Man, The Weapon, Kid Gloves, THE ENEMY WITHIN for Christ's sake! They haven't played those songs in forever, and any one of those would certainly be more thrilling than sitting through Territories. What a snooze fest. A great chunk of Clockwork Angels was also a mistake. I'm all for them playing new songs, but maybe they could have spread them out, or displace some of them with some older ones. Take out Seven Cities and put in a shortened Xanadu. Take out The Garden and replace it with Circumstances/La Villa. I don't care how overplayed those songs are, they are certainly more thrilling than The Garden was.

I wonder why it was just Buffalo that got Limelight? The absence of it in Cleveland only proves the one-off time of Limelight in the setlist. I wonder why they're so special? Similarly, during Muse's previous tour, they only played Bliss in Vancouver and no where else. I wonder why certain cities get these special one-off songs?

Don't complain about seeing B! I'm seeing A, and I'd much rather hear Dreamline than Manhattan Project
That said, Bravado is much better than The Pass!

It was Alex who pushed for By-Tor and the Snow Dog for the Vapor Trails Tour, so if he isn't the one behind the lesser-known songs, he at least has a very strong opinion regarding the older songs that can be played.

You guys should listen to some Sigur Ros or some actual emotional music. You'll probably shrivel up and die from all the water loss if you cry to The Garden.

Who said anything about how many they should play on tour? That's irrelevant. But I honestly wouldn't mind if they played all of it on the upcoming tour. I love all the songs that much.

I love the "iron wheels" chorus, but that's it. I've listened to this song 5 times now, and that's honestly the only part I remember from it. Everything else about it is so unmemorable and incoherent.

And those are Wish Them Well and Carnies. WTW because it's WAY too repetitive, and Carnies because it's just a wall of sound without any cohesion or linear guidance. It's just a mess. AND I think The Garden is vastly overrated on here. All in all though, a great album!

Definitely mixed. He looks forward to so many things in life and in his adventures, but when the reality strikes, he is only left with bitter disappointment that none of his optimistic dreams came into being. The Garden, however, is somewhat hopeful, as he states that all we can do is live life to be loved and respected, and to hope. I find that to be the message of the album; life sucks, and all we can do is hope that the next minute brings us more joy than the previous one.

LOVE the lyrics to Clockwork Angels. Very poetic, atmospheric, and lyrical. Some of his best lyrics ever, I would say. That said, the story is rather depressing - a string of blunders and dashing hopes to the chagrin of the protagonist, only for him to realize that life is crappy and full of disappointments. The ending redeems it somewhat, with the message that life is hard, but all we can do is hope from one second to the next. A bittersweet ending, but very nice. Well done!
