I prefer GUP and ASOH...

I've thought about it, but since I keep my phone on vibrate/silent for the most part, it's rather superfluous to do so. Also, I hate listening to just part of a song, so I would probably put it back to silent after a few calls due to sheer annoyance. Also, I would hate to hear it so many times that I get sick of the song.

I voted By-Tor. But since Armor and Sword was supposed to be gone, is the poll really fair since it now has 5 votes (which should be elsewhere)?

There may be a lot of synth on MP, but Signals was the start of the era as far as how prominent they were and how necessary they were to building the sound. (note that I didn't say anything about other instruments being pushed back since I know that's a favorite argument amongst the haters). There was a lot of synth on Xanadu, for instance, but it's certainly not classified as a "synth" song.

QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ May 19 2011, 06:35 PM) Meh. Least best song off of PeW. Kind of ruins the flow, the amount of actual kick-butt instrumentel is not that high. I agree completely. Maybe it's the fact that it's constantly talked about around here, but I just don't get the hype. It just kind of drags along and I'm never really grabbed by it.

Besides Firefly and occasionally Star Trek:TNG, I don't care for sci-fi at all. I don't even like fantasy.

Vapor Trails--the music itself is raw and distorted, the picture (which I read was meant just to be a rough draft) characterizes the same elements.

QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ May 15 2011, 04:20 PM) This stuff is great. Oh stop.
You bumped what was probably the oldest thread on the forum (nearly 7 years) with a comment that means nothing because both links are well dead at this point.

Available Light without even a moments hesitation.

I think it was the first song I truly loved off of Presto. It's moved down a little bit since getting into the other stuff, but I still think it's a fantastic (and rarely discussed) song. The song has an atmosphere like no other on the album (and being a fan of synths, I can't argue with this track). The opening piano riff, the bouncy synth, the incredible (but short) solo--it's simply a wonderful song.
Piece about the song from the Rush FAQ:

QUOTE (CygnusX-1Bk2 @ May 13 2011, 04:46 AM) HYF without a doubt. Everything on that record is likened to something else. Seriously, look at them and tell me they aren't. "Like a..." is a lyric to just about every song. Some more than others. Cheap. TFE is f***ing genius comparatively. Since when are 2 songs "every song"?
HYF songs that have the phrase "like a":
-Lock and Key..."Ticking like a time bomb"
-Tai Shan..."I stood there like a mystic"
If you're referring to just the word "like," I hate to break it to you, but Neil (and literally every other lyricist ever) have used that countless times. It's not just HYF that uses it.
Open Secrets doesn't use the word at all, Second Nature uses it once (and not for a simile), Mission doesn't at all (unless you count "likely"), Turn the Page doesn't at all, High Water uses it once.
Unless you're being sarcastic, in which case, haha.

Making an off-topic thread discussing your dislike of off-topic threads is kind of unnecessary. While everyone hates the threads you mentioned, it does manage to provoke a discussion (no matter how heated it may get at times). The only thing you can do is ignore it--the problem is the fact that people respond to it (a lot) and that is the reason it becomes so bad. If people just didn't bother responding to these "trolls" (as it's been put), then the threads would disappear from the first page in 2-3 days.

It's definitely on point with video and sound...the only problem is that it's a pretty bad performance--they look and sound bored as hell.

Power Windows by far, one of the many reasons it's my absolute favorite Rush album.

While RTB/TFE get a lot of hate, at least they were composed of mostly original thoughts/beliefs. With most of the 70's material, it was just him re-hashing some book or story. When I listen to lyrics, I'm listening for some perspective or something I can relate to. How well the lyricist can do that while maintaining a sense of rhythm and purpose for the words defines, in my opinion, how great of a lyricist he/she is. In Neil's case, I felt no connection between him, and say, Cygnus X-1, just a sense of listening to a story with rhymes. I meant to vote for CoS based on this, but accidentally chose 2112.

QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ May 5 2011, 09:50 PM) I hated this album and its depressing drone. The supporting tour was a real snoozer, as I remember. I believe you're thinking of the Time Machine tour

QUOTE (Good,bad,andrush @ May 4 2011, 10:28 PM) Before and after
Rivendell
Tears
Madrigal
Different strings
Countdown
Red lenses
Grand designs
Second nature
Tai Shan
High water
Anagram
Heresy
You bet your life
The speed of love
Dog years
EnjoyWe're going to have some problems if you're considering Different Strings, Countdown, Grand Designs, High Water and Anagram bad songs (which I have a feeling you were!).
To answer the question, just crank Signals. I think it's their most drive-iest (it's a word now) album.

QUOTE (liddybuck01 @ May 4 2011, 11:21 PM) Im sorry, i dont consider myself a "noob". Just because i dont know every little detail about their entire career doesnt make me less of a fan.
Also, i know what a trilogy is, im not an idiot. I was just asking what, if any, the other songs were.
I know the "fear" series, so i was just trying to figure out what this one was.No one is suggesting you're an idiot (actually GBR clearly stated he wasn't calling you dumb). The trilogy thing was explained to you because that's the whole joke in itself, which you admittedly said was a "dumb question."
To give you the simplest answer: Where's My Thing is the only song in the trilogy even though it's listed as Part IV. It's just a joke by the band.

Top 5 for me (well, number 5). Some songs may not stand too well on their own, but listening all the way through it, it is an incredibly strong album. It has a perfect beginning and a perfect end (no matter what they say ).

If Rush does decide to do a farewell tour, I think it's only appropriate they call it the "A Farewell to Kings" tour.

QUOTE (smocs @ May 2 2011, 02:22 PM) One more question: anybody know if I could find the tabs for the acoustic solo anywhere? I did a quick google search and search of this forum and didn't come up with anything You're better off watching a video of the piece on YouTube or waiting until the DVD comes out and figuring it out on your own (not just because the chances of it getting tabbed are slim-to-none, but because there's no better way to learn something than by figuring it out for yourself ). It shouldn't be too hard either since the video should be 100% focused on Alex.

I named it "boring."

Interesting, just checked for curiosity purposes and now only the 300-level seats are available. On the seating chart 114 and 120 are greyed out, which I assumed meant that no tickets would be on sale for those sections.
Keyboards aren't real!
