  1. First listen - "Interesting! I like this. Not what I was expecting, but still good."

Second listen - "Ooh. I really like this. Let's put the volume up a few notches."

Third listen - I found myself playing flailing air drums to a new Rush track for the first time in years. 1022.gif

Good call on Time and motion! Used to be my favorite song for quite a while and lyrically still one of my favs

Absolutely love that track, aside from the fact that I can't help mishearing Ged and thinking he's singing about snails. "Fill them up with fresh escargot.." rofl3.gif

I was a bit disappointed with the album when it came out, but I've since learned to like it a lot. I even rather like 'Dog Years'!

Only thing I really still can't stand is the chorus to 'Virtuality', I physically cringe when I hear the lyrics. Great music though.

So what should I do which amp is the one to get?

The simplest, and perhaps the only right answer, is this - Go and play through both!

Put ten guitarists of half-decent ability through the same amp, with the same guitar and same effects, and they'll all sound completely different.

Don't get the amp which you think *should* be the best, go and find the one which *you* think is the best, regardless of what anyone else says. Find the one which speaks to you! smile.gif

You got any pics of the Berlin? sure sounds like a nice one!

Unfortunately not! It was back in the days before digital cameras were commonplace, and I lost a case of photos which would have featured that Berlin when I moved a few years ago. sad.gif

It had a highly figured bird's eye maple top finished in a lovely translucent grey, with the headstock veneered to match, and topped off with gold hardware and Wilkinson Convertible trem. Looked just perfect, and I'll always regret selling it, but I was in a financial fix at the time, and didn't have much choice. doh.gif

Ah well, at least I got to own it for a year or so!

93' Patrick Eggle, Los Angeles Pro II. Made in Birmingham, UK. With ebony fret board and pickup covers.

Beautiful guitar! reminds me of Alex's signatures from the late 80's, what can you tell us about it?

Thanks Soni. Yeah I can see some Signature style in it too biggrin.gif

Well it was made by a company called Patrick Eggle Guitars in 1993, which was while Patrick James Eggle was still the master luthier. He left the company in 1994 to go and make acoustic guitars. And the company is now under different ownership.

The top is a solid piece of flamed Maple, the fret board is Ebony, as are the covers on the pickups. From what I have read, to have one with all the original Ebony pickups is a bit of a rare find. It has false binding round the edge of the top, bolt on neck, a Wilkinson trem and Sperzel tuners. Luckily for me, it's all in great condition because the previous owner never played it. It was bought on a whim when he came into some money, then never used. So guitar, hard case, and original tags/papers are pretty much as good as new. Thats about all I know about it.

Hoping to add a few more Patrick Eggles to the collection at some point. They do some PRSish ones, hoping to pick up at least one of those this year smile.gif

edited for a mistake the spell checker and I missed 1st time

Superb guitar, I've had three Eggles over the years and loved every one of them, most of all the black/grey quilted top Berlin Pro I had about ten years ago.

The early ones are the best, I remember calling the factory at one point to get some information on the wiring in my Berlin, got asked the serial number, and then put on to the guy who wired that particular guitar and remembered it because of the extra nice pattern on the maple top. cool.gif

If you want PRS-alike, try and find a Vienna Pro. Every bit as well made and they sound delicious! smile.gif

  6. If you'll forgive the momentary lapse into the usage of spurious internet acronyms - Kate Bush FTW!

I've been a fan of hers for about 18 years now, have everything she's done, and think she's just awesome. smile.gif

Personal favourite album of hers? Lionheart. Don't know why, it just takes me to a strange place whenever I listen to it. Kate herself hates it, apparently. tongue.gif

  7. I remember first watching it about three years ago. I was over at a friend's place with a couple of other people, we were generally chilling out , having a beer and wanted to watch a DVD.

One of us wandered off to the DVD rental place and came back with Old Boy, saying that it had been recommended by the guy behind the counter. None of us had heard of it, so we went into the watching experience completely fresh.

Cue a couple of hours of us all staring at the TV in utter confusion and trying to work out if that was the most amazing film we had ever seen, or just plain bizarre! We eventually decided on the former, and most of us subsequently went out and bought the DVD!

An immensely moving and challenging film, which never seems to fail to get a strong reaction from people who watch it! laugh.gif

  8. Played through one fairly recently, didn't like it at all.

Seemed incredibly poorly built too, considering the price.

Mind you, I don't seem to get on with any of the so called 'boutique' amps for some reason, so it might just be me!

I'll personally stick to my bizarre homebrew modified Hughes & Kettner ATS120 which I've been using for the past ten years. It's technically awful, but just seems to do what it does 100% reliably, which is more than can be said for the umpteen high end four figure price tagged amps I've had in the past.

Many amps have come and gone, but the H&K has always been the dependable staple of my rig - I've sold it three times, and bought it back again every time! biggrin.gif

  9. May as well drop a random shameless plug in here while I'm sat here at the PC doing rather a lot of nothing at all. wink.gif

My band, Thorne, are releasing their debut album in January, and after a few mishaps and careless losing of drummers (yes, we checked behind the fridge and down the back of the sofa, no drummers there, if you know anyone, let us know!) we're slowly on the road to getting things the way we want.

Our website is at www.thornemusic.co.uk, and has plenty of random waffle, a few audio previews, and some barely tolerable HTML coding by myself. biggrin.gif

Any listens would be much appreciated! smile.gif

  10. 'Tis truly a thing of wonder, the Geddy signature Jazz.

I used to work for a large music shop when the GedBass was launched, and (naturally!) as soon as one came in the shop, I had to give it a good thrashing! Very impressed would be an understatement.

There's just something about it that's special compared to pretty much any other Jazz, even to the point that a bass playing friend of mine who hates Rush with a passion played one a few years ago with the signature covered up with a sticker. tongue.gif

I think the BadAss bridge has a lot to do with it, as the bassist in my band fitted one to his Jazz and it improved the feel and tone immensely. Now, if only he could get a GeddyFingers implant... rofl3.gif

  11. Hey!

Thought I'd sign up here for some random Rush related ramblimg!

(Apologies if this is in the wrong place, couldn't find a dedicated 'ohmygawdi'msonooooo!!!1!' section biggrin.gif)

I'm Steve, 32, and I've apparently been a fan of Rush since I was 2, when my brother (15 years older than me) sat me down in his room, cranked up his vinyl copy of 2112, and proceeded to play loud Rush to me every day for most of my childhood, telling me that they were the greatest band in the world. laugh.gif

Little did I know that all these years later, I'd be playing guitar in a rock trio with a singing bass player - spooky how things turn out!

    So, ummm... Hi! biggrin.gif
