A quick Google search revealed that there are only 18 drive-in theatres left in my country. There used to be one about 20 minutes away from me, but now it is a field of dry grass, the skeletal remains of the screen, and the sign out the front that displayed the movie titles.
I used to love going to the drive-in. It was like watching a movie at home - you could talk without some one telling you to be quiet, stretch out as much as you like, and eat as loudly as you wanted. But it was still an outing, a social gathering. I miss it.
I think many people would love to see the return of the drive-in, both to relive the old days and to allow a whole new generation to experience it. Sadly, the whole 'home theatre' thing is here and in force, but it's not the same.
