  1. here's the ad i'm talking about

    Thank you for the correction.

With respect to that bass, that may be someone trying to get their money back.

from a "philosophical" point of view, does a fender custom shop that rare is supposed to gain value, let's say, when geddy will leave the surface of the earth ?

i mean, if that guy bought it in 2014 for 7000 $, is he legit to ask 10 000 $ seven years later ?

  2. Do you know how much they cost when they were first introduced? Also, where is this guy selling it? If it's on a site like eBay you have some level of protection. You'd need to do some research to confirm its authenticity.

I could be wrong, but the OP may be referencing a listing on Reverb.

What I find odd is that he says he is selling due to medical reasons, but was in no hurry to sell.

At the asking price, you may be able to have the FCS build it cheaper. I am unsure since I do not have a FCS.

That said, Adrian Maruszczyk might build you something close to that for less as well.

on talkbass forum i saw this bass sold for 3500 to 5000 back in 2017-2018.

    almost 8000 $USD in 2021 ? i don't know. i can't figure.

as for your comment on protection, i would sure take my precaution. the guy is selling in the greater toronto area and i am about 600km from there.

  4. hello all,

yep. the gear acquisition syndrome struck again.

except this time, a guy is selling a "mint" Fender Custom Shop Geddy Lee Jazz bass.

back in 2014, only 50 were made.

the guys claims the instrument has never been gigged and has been properly stored for years.

he clearly bought it as an "investment" and now he is trying to cash on it.

    he's asking 10,000 $CAN (7777 $USD).

that's a lot of money, but i've dreamed of this bass since forever.

i know for sure that he is trying to sell that instrument for months on kijiji, here in canada. sometimes, the ad disappear for a couple of week and would reappear.

he says he is "firm" on the asked price and he is clearly in no rush to sell.

my question is : is he asking a "fair" price ? do you consider custom shop instrument as valuable as it seems to be ? should i engage a discussion with the guy on price ?

i'm interested to read your thoughts on this.

    in advance, many thanks.

  5. I posted a version of it years ago but in standard notation. I can't read tab

where can we find it ?

It was in this forum, but it was a photobucket link. I'll re-scan them and figure out a way to post them again.

It was a hobby I started back in '91. I decided to transcribe Limelight one night because the versions I had were nowhere near accurate. Before I knew it I was obsessed. I've done about 55 Rush tunes from the entire catalog, as well as Marillion's Misplaced Childhood album, the Who's Tommy and a few Bela Fleck tunes.

I'm sure there's software now to make it easier, but I'm old fashioned. I still sit there with a few sharpened pencils and some manuscript paper and play the song a measure or two at a time.

would love to see, and pay a tribute, to this obsessive work.

  6. yes !

apologies ! my mistake. i should have written 4-3-2 on D strings.

i understand there is no "definitive" answer although version 2 seems to be the correct one.

good news for me as I find it easier to play.

a big thanks to you all.

  7. hello,

i see two bass transcription for yyz and i can't figure which one is correct.

    version 1

    G+-2-2---2---------+-2-2---2----------------+

    D--------4---4-3-2-+------4---4-2-----------+

    A-------------------4+--------------4-3-2-4---+

    E---------------------+------------------------2-+

    version 2

    G+-2-2---2---------+-2-2---2----------------+

    D--------4---4-3-2-+------4---4-2-3----------+

    A-------------------4+-----------------4-2-4---+

    E---------------------+------------------------2-+

the differences sits on the D & A strings, second mesure.

    any help will be appreciated.

  8. greetings,

i always been a huge fan of counterparts. lately, i've been listening the album over and over.

i listen to a ripped copy (@320) of the original 1993 cd. it sounds good but i'm wondering about the other remastered version of the album.

as far as i know, the album as been remastered in 2004 (i guess as part of "the rush remasters" series, and has been reissued in 2013 as part of "the studio album 1989-2007" box set.

first question : does anybody knows which version of the album (1993 or 2004) is in the box set ?

according to wikipedia, it has been reissued in 2015 "after being remastered by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios following a direct approach by Rush to remaster their entire back catalogue".

second question : is this new remastering was part of the reissue of all catalog in vinyl which come with a download link ?

counterparts also received the sacd "treatment". for many, this is best sounding version of the album. unfortunately, i cannot appreciate it since i don't own an sacd player and even not a cd player anymore.

third question : what would be the "best" sounding version of counterparts ?

i know, it's all a matter of taste. but i love that album so much, i want to improve my listening experience from my 1993 rip.

    many thanks in advance.

    mB

Never opened the Atlantic Remasters box so I don't know if it's the 2004 or a newer remaster,

For vinyl there was the original 1993 vinyl and the 2015 remastered vinyl with the download code and at least one other independent download. (Not at all familiar with any of the downloadable versions because I have no idea about where they are sourced.)

As for CD, there is the 1993 original and the 2004 remaster (which I think slightly improves the albums clarity.) There is also the Audio Fidelity version released in 2012 (which happens to be my favorite as far as CD sound quality.)

Counterparts had a great mix from the get-go in 1993 so I didn't hear any difference at all in the 1989-2007 studio album remasters box set I got a few years ago of it

For me, Counterparts is Rush's last truly great album from start to finish and Rush's best since GUP. Animate, Double Agent, and Leave that thing alone are top 25 Rush songs for me.

Sorry I can't answer your questions. I just thought I'd chime in and tell you I agree about that album's greatness

thank you all for your reply.

how can i put my hands on the audio fidelity cd ? is there any rip available for download anywhere ? (i don't want to steal anything but...)

  10. hello all,

tech21nyc came up with an updated version of the sansamp yyz pedal.

    http://www.tech21nyc...ansamp/di-2112/

here is a great demo of the pedal in action with bass player extraordinaire tim starace.

my question is : do you need to amps to run this pedal like the original GED-2112 rackmount version ?

    many thanks in advance.

    mB

I'm sure there are many other bass players on here who can answer your question but as it's directed at only one person then they'll probably not respond, like myself! :sigh:

    everybody,

    apologies.

my question was to tim since he seems to work for tech21 (as shown in various naam videos).

please don't hesitate to respond if you happen to know the answer.

    best,

    mB

I should be the one to apologize for taking so long! There is a way to blend both outputs into one. There is a button inside of the battery compartment (affectionately referred to as the "G Spot") Hope this helps.

thank you very much, even for the late reply. hope everything is good for you. best wishes.

  12. can you be a little more specific ?

does it sound like the rackmount ged-2112 unit ?

i assume it's easier to use. the ged-2112 seems a little tricky.

can you use it as a d.i. like the sansamp bass driver pedal ?

please feel free to share any information.

    thanks for your time.

  13. I'd say get a USB to midi adapter for the pedal, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0756YYTCX

Use the Focusrite midi-in for the x6. However, if you want the x6 sounds then you have to run an out (like the headphone or line out) from the x6 into any input on the Focusrite, so it 'hears' the sounds. Midi data is just control commands, it doesn't carry of the synth sounds.

thank you very much for your advice.

    regards.

    mB

with a midi to usb cable, can you assign different MIDI channels from the same device (i.e. the pk-5a) ?

Yes you can assign diff channels. As I stated above, I connect three midi controllers through the Audio hub via M-Audio usb midi adapters. I use Cantabile as a host and can assign anychannel to anything I need. The 5a uses, I think 1 and 16 for bass and poly, I switch them to 1 and 2 for ease of use.

    stugotz,

    i thank you for this.

p.s. very impressed by your ged-2112 videos.

  16. I just happened to see this now, do you still need help? It's been a few weeks. I don't frequent this section enough it seems.

i do actually. thanks for stopping by stoopid.

along with the other 50 fellows who viewed the topic.

The pedal you mention in the first post, is it supposed to control the keyboard (the X6) or does it have it's own effects? I would imagine the routing would be pk-5a midi out to x6 midi in, then you would choose what type of signal from the x6 into the Focusrite depending on what data you're trying to capture. If you like the sounds in the x6, then you use the Line-Out from the x6 into the focusrite, otherwise if you just want the raw midi data to be sent to the computer use the midi out from the x6 into the focusrite or a usb to midi converter (this allows you to bypass the focusrite). This is assuming the x6 doesn't have a USB port to directly connect it into the PC.

There's a lot of variables to this setup as you're aware and you really need to tinker and work within the limitations of what's available. The reason I don't think having the pk-5a signal/data go into the PC matters is because capturing the midi from the pedal and keyboard simultaneously might be a bit tricky. There's limitations on the software side and I can't help with that due to not being familiar with your DAW (I use a different one). Routing might be a whole 'nother challenge if the VSTi you're using in Pro Logic doesn't sort that out for you. I'd hope that with the pedal going through the x6, both (combined) sets of midi data would be sent to the computer from the x6.

Stugotz, are you able to record the pedal action via midi "live" while you're playing the keyboard (also via midi)?

    hey stoopid,

    thanks for your explanation.

    here are some information :

the pedal (pk-5a) is just a midi controller - it does not produce any sound. i don't want to use it to control the Fantom X6 but to control a softsynth on my computer. it does have a midi in/out/thru.

i would like to use the sounds on the Fantom. it has a usb/midi port. unfortunatly, i haven't found any driver compatible with my OSx. it's an old synth (2004). it has a midi in/out/thru.

my interface (focusrite) only have midi in/out.

my problem is : i have two midi capable device i want to connect to an interface who only has only one midi port.

    any thoughts ?
