  1. I don't mind peanut butter but recently I saw a picture of what looked like the typical deviled egg, but where the yolk mixture would be some evil person had put a small dollop of peanut butter and jelly. Wrong!

I don't care what you put on an egg - keep it the hell away from my plate!

  2. I'm not a fan of peanuts, or peanut butter, by itself. (I hate nuts anyway and will always pick them out of anything. Except macadamia nuts). But I can stand peanut butter when it's an ingredient in a baked good.

I made a peanut butter cup cheesecake last night. Did you know that if you throw away the page in the recipe that has all the nutritional info on it, it makes the recipe healthier?

  3. Johnny Blaze was telling me in PM that his absolute favourite TV show of all time is the KNIGHT RIDER with David "The Hoff" HasselHoff!

    Hahaha!

Well you know the three of us are "The Three Amigos!"

    Makes total sense.

"Knight Rider" went through my head first before "Firefox." Yet I chose Clint.

    Love that tv show.

    How about MAGNUM??

MAGNUM PI? Tom Selleck? Or the prog band? LOL!

    No the choc ice:

    Magnum_ice_cream.jpg

    Hahaha!

Thought it was going to be a box of condoms Pat.

The HOFF claims he never wears them. That was in the mid 80's though before the permed hair AIDS scare.

His concerts are always sold out in Germany!

Yeah, well, Rammstein, Mozart, and Wagner notwithstanding, the Germans' cultural tastes are suspect. I mean, they also go bonkers over the Smurfs.

  4. 3gssjv.jpg

    Featuring all that nifty lithium.

Goddamn, that's a lot of fugly in one post.

As I am lurking on the edge of purchasing a Challenger (need to sell my dog of a house first and then the real dog needs to stop spending my down payment money on vet bills*), I get the occasional question from the well-meaning as to whether I'll consider an electric or hybrid vehicle.

No. That technology has a long way to go and it's not anywhere like as "green" as its proponents desperately want it to be.

*no, I don't plan to live in the car! SO and I each have a house. His is nicer and it's paid for, so mine goes. Also, I love my shepherd doggy and I will spend whatever it takes to make his last year or two as comfortable as possible, even if it means continuing to drive a 4-cylinder Japanese toaster.

  5. 17:26 - That's why Rush stopped touring.....it's because they knew that he had limited time.

What utter ignorance .....

Sorry, but how do you know for sure that isn't true?

How does that dork radio show host know that what he said is true?

I suggest that we contact the guy and ask HIM to provide evidence to support the claim that HE made.

At the worst he is guilty of assuming something which lets face it seemed quite plausible.

I don't think it merited the triple facepalm reaction.

If Neil and the band had already known something was wrong, there would have been no tour that year. No way would he have chosen to spend even a week of the time he had left on the road. We already know he didn’t want to do it anyway.

  6. Just when I start thinking FB needs to go, it’s boring and a waste of time and bandwidth....

....it serves up some truly entertaining conspiracy theory crap that makes me laugh and laugh and laugh.

Did any of you know that The Simpsons predicted both the Wuhan coronavirus and Kobe’s death....27 years ago?

    What a bunch of dumbasses!

It was Ren & Stimpy 29 years ago!!!

    :P

I'm wearing an old Ren and Stimpy shirt right now, lol.

Ah yes Ren and Stimpy with such pearls of wisdom, don't wiz on the electric fence :laughing guy:

    What rolls down stairs,

    rolls over in pairs,

    rolls over your neighbors dog...

I have got to find my farting Ren doll....

  7. I used to listen to him back in the early 90s. I can't recall the last time I did. Frankly, I preferred some of the guest hosts to his program.

That said, I suspect everyone knows someone who has battled cancer. It might win quickly, it might win slowly, and some (but not many) people do beat it. In all but the smallest number of cases, it nonetheless puts a person through hell. I like 99.99% of the people who post regularly on this site. I simply won't believe that there is ANYONE in that majority who truly thinks that ANYONE who isn't a murderer or the like deserves to be diagnosed with cancer.

In 2008 I was in Chicago visiting my sister for July 4th. We had a small party planned; when we learned that Sen. Jesse Helms had kicked the bucket that day, we incorporated his departure into the party theme. We even had a "Jesse Helms Deathday Cake" with his name, birth and death dates, and "Good Riddance" hastily scribbled in icing on top.

Petty, yes, but I still don't feel guilty about that. Helms was a hateful, odious carbon-based life form. Nothing Limbaugh has ever said or done even approaches the viciousness Helms espoused.

That said, I can't think offhand of anyone I'd wish death or even cancer on, even my boyfriend's ex-wife. She's irksome and certainly expended a lot of effort trying to make his life hell, but then again she's pathological and a junkie to boot, so nothing she did was entirely unexpected.

Your point about Helms makes mine though, I think. Subjectively, you distinguish between them. I'm sure others with a different political bent might think they're equally bad or good. That's why, for me, someone would have to actually do something truly horrifying to warrant saying something to the effect of, "I'm glad they got a disease that caused them to waste away." Not trying to be over-dramatic, but cancer's different for me than saying you're glad someone who pissed you off and took your parking spot tripped over a curb..

Helms had a meanness to him that I haven't ever noticed in Limbaugh. Sure, lots of people get butthurt over things he says, but that's on them because he isn't deliberately cruel.

Case in point: Helms was on an elevator one day with a black Congresswoman (name escapes me). He told her he was "going to sing Dixie until I make you cry". He was deliberately cruel and loved to cloak himself in flag and Bible. Obviously North Carolinians found him somewhat tolerable, due probably in no small part to his loyalty to the state's tobacco industry.

    Carol Moseley-Braun.

Robert Byrd was a Klansman, and used the "n word" in an interview given sometime within the last 20 years. Neither man would have been welcome in my home. But I guess my point is not liking a person or their politics is different in kind, not degree, from saying their being diagnosed with cancer is a good thing.

Byrd is a (thankfully) distant relative of mine. When I found that out I said something to the effect of, "oh great, like it's not embarrassing enough to live in Georgia!"

I have relatives in Georgia on my mother's side and I love them but I don't agree with them on most things so I can relate to your comment.

Alabama, South Carolina, and Mississippi are the only states keeping Georgia from being the absolute cultural and educational nadir of the US.

  9. You’d expect flashlights to come up eventually in a thread about pleasure, I suppose…

Indeed....there's a "Gentleman's Club" up in northwestern Wisconsin, where patrons are encouraged to bring flashlights with them.

Can you guess why, I'm wondering..... :o

    Flashlights or fleshlights?

  10. Slight cold, but it didn't keep me out of the gym.

Since I work from home I figure it's likely that's where I picked up the virus. I do wear lifting gloves but tonight I realized I'm prone to wiping my face with my hands even with the gloves on. (I sweat more than any 5 people combined). I used to carry a towel around for that; guess I should get back in the habit.

  11. I remember about 5 years ago I was wearing an R30 shirt while shopping and some guy says to me, I am a ditto head too .

That happens to me on occasion too. I just roll my eyes and keep doing what I'm doing.

My former (and now late, RIP) brother-in-law made that mistake with me when ex-DH and I first started dating. I quickly corrected him, same as when I mentioned I was a big follower of (Thoroughbred) racing. He thought I meant NASCAR. Sweet guy but we didn't have much to talk about!

  12. Anything done by Van Halen during the Roth era.

Big Ten Inch Record by Aerosmith.

Hair of the Dog by Guns N Roses.

Disagree about "Where Have all the Good Times Gone" and "Pretty Woman". Originals are stone cold classics. Can't be bettered.

The second sentence is true. The last one isn’t because the originals weren’t done by Van Halen. :)

I think Diamond Dave paid Orbison appropriate tribute with the VH cover of "Pretty Woman", even though they left out the "oh". Did Orbison ever comment on it?

  13. This is an odd one that comes to mind. For years have heard the song "Always Something There To Remind Me" by Naked Eyes (one hit wonders I believe) and I kept thinking who did that originally? I looked it up last month and it was Dionne Warwick and it was a Bert Bacharach tune :eh:. This version is early New Wave so it is kinda catchy...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVrELhxOFnM

I did not know that! One-hit wonders and damn, it wasn't even their song.

Covers I hate (should be another thread), but Gwen Stefani should be shot at sunrise for covering Roxy Music's "More Than This" and Talk Talk's "It's My Life". Both are sacred ground to me and I mourned Mark Hollis' death.

Even worse, some, er, THING....redid "More Than This" as a goddamn country song. Boiling in oil is too good for that person.

  14. My feeling about this is a private ones, but will voice them here. I think seeing how our dear Neil was a very private man, he would've chosen to keep his funeral matters private for his parents, brother and two sisters, his wife and very close friends only. Imagine his will coming out!! The horror of it is sickening because I seen it with famous people fighting over how didn't get what or why they cut them out of the will. I sometimes think if they held it open, it would not be fun at all for Neil's family. Plus, I think Neil would've like us to remember him by listening to Rush, reading his book or re seeing Rush concerts on DVDs or on YT. or by helping folks with his name..I believed that if Geddy and Alex were to one day pass, it would be the same thing. Sorry if I ramble on here.

Hazarding a guess that Neil was not the type who'd have expected or wanted anyone to make a big formal fuss over his earthly remains. The man was never one to stand on ceremony regarding anything; as humble as he was, it's not likely he'd have made an exception for his own passing.

I also doubt he's been buried anywhere that the general public could access easily - if he opted for burial at all. I think that would be a good thing; while Rush fans in general are decent, respectful people, I have also seen people act like complete tools at gravesites. For every 200 people who'd visit Neil's grave to quietly pay respects, there'd be one person who had to act like a dick by the headstone. Jon Benet Ramsey is buried within shouting distance of my house, and while I thought she got entirely too much attention I can't condone all the disrespectful selfies and such that happen on her gravesite.

  15. I never thought anyone could do "Sound Of Silence" like Simon and Garfunkel. In fact I thought it would be akin to blasphemy for anyone else to even touch it.

Until I heard Disturbed's cover. Not to take anything away from Paul and Art, but Dave Draiman's powerful voice sends chills up my spine and brings tears to my eyes. I love Disturbed anyway, but when I heard they were planning a cover of SOS I kinda thought, well, yeah, guys, not sure about this. But they have more than done justice to this classic. Paul Simon agrees - he congratulated the band after a live performance on The Late Show.

I also think R.E.M. did a great rendition of Leonard Cohen's "First We Take Manhattan". (Some prefer the Joe Cocker version). Admittedly I haven't ever understood the appeal of Cohen, but I like what R.E.M. did with his song! (I used to be almost as fond of R.E.M. as I am of Rush, but then they got popular and Stipe cleared his throat and they lost their unique Athens - rock edge. But I digress).

Rush has been covered by quite a few bands; while some of these I think are good and I wouldn't turn them off, they're just not Rush, never mind better than.

    So....take it away, TRF.
