  1. Dear Certain Militant Republican family member,

Teachers did not cause the economic disaster.

We're trying to cope with it too.

Posting how I shouldn't get the small salary I receive after

teaching for over 25 years, just because you have to pay taxes

is an insane argument. Someone paid taxes so that your children could be

educated...now it's your turn. Lay off!

    Thank you.

    Your older sister.

  2. Dear Powers that be, that own the Mall across the street:

When you design one whole level of the mall for kids and teenagers(with all of their favorite stores), and put the theater up there, kids and teenagers are going to come to the mall and hang out up there.

What made you think they wouldn't ACT like kids and teenagers?

Now we have the announcement over the public address system that all unaccompanied minors will have to leave the mall at a certain time. You can then legally kick out the kids and teenagers.

Lovely Planning there people. Just lovely!

What next, a walking track for the elderly that is open from 10 p.m. to midnight?

    Dear teens and twenties who:
    Drink too much alcohol,
    Do drugs,
    Drive fast in cars
Drive fast on motorcycles, and without gear,
and do other reckless stuff because you think you have 100 lives.

    YOU DON'T!!

and now I have to go to your funeral because you overdosed, and console my friend, who is your mother because you couldn't figure this out before you died.

Anybody else out there who does this stuff, knock it off!
My nephew has seen 4 of his friends die in the past two years. I'm tired of talented young people killing themselves by doing reckless sh!T.
We need you in this world. Find a better way to express yourselves.

    Thank you for this sad.gif

It's Saturday night. Think about this before you go out to party, o.k.?

    This kid's funeral was today.

I hate to be a downer, but if it saves your life, so be it.

Just registered today with the same username...now I have to find the time to stop in! With all the Rush groups and sites I've been joining lately, it's getting tough to manage them all, but I suppose that's a good thing for Rush!

    Bubba's is a cooking forum.

Rush is a side dish there. bolt.gif

I teach at a school where the students are required to wear uniforms. In our case it is called "Standard Student Attire" (SSA), because I guess calling them uniforms would be considered politically incorrect. The students can wear solid red, royal blue, navy blue or white collared shirts, and khaki, black or navy blue bottoms, whether they be pants, shorts, skirts or skorts. Now this may sound lovely and adorable, however the reality is far from it. The kids who show up to school filthy dirty day after day are still filthy dirty. Then the problem is that they may only have 2 sets of SSA (this school is in a rather poor area of town), no washing machine, no money for the laundry mat and show up with the same white shirt, with the same burrito from lunch 3 days before smeared across their sleeve. I REALLY am not exaggerating here. I have literally had to talk to some of my first graders (yes, first graders) about how they could run some water in the bathtub with dishwashing detergent, put their clothes in, slosh it around a little, rinse, wring them out and hang them over the shower rod with a towel on the floor. Sad. Oh, and sometimes they wear filthy dirty clothes because their parents are just bozos. Whoops, sorry.

Then there's the progressive discipline plan that goes along with SSA. First time they're not in compliance - a note home with a reminder, second time - another note and no recess, third time - all the above and a meeting with the parents. Then there's the walk of shame to the nurse's office to change out of non compliant clothing - all this is on the poor students, when it's really their parent's fault.

Needless to say, I'm not a fan.

I have the same situation where I work(inner city, low income). We keep stuff in the office for the kids to change into, and I try to catch them first thing in the morning so they can change and pretend they are late.

No more walk of shame. The secretary calls the parents if it happens too often, and asks if they need another uniform. Someone who is dirty day after day needs to be reported to CPS.

Being poor isn't an excuse for being dirty. Many of our parents wash clothes in the bathtub too.

  6. For the kids: Uniforms(it's gang territory, so it keeps them safe)

For the teachers: A reminder that we are the only professionals they see

besides the doctor, so we should dress the part....not easy to do when you are the floor with the kids all day.

  8. I teach, and some days I pick up my class from lunch, and they haven't touched their trays. Even the pizza isn't all that great.

I bring my own, and always have.

When I was in school, we only got hot lunch on pizza or taco days, otherwise, it was brown bag.

The worst though, was when my private elementary school decided to have t.v. dinners as hot lunch. My poor siblings ate it for a week, and then begged mom to go back to brown bagging it. They threw their food away every day, and my mom even got a phone call from the teachers about how they were "wasting good food". Um, if it was good, they would have eaten it! Luckily, I was in high school by then, and didn't have to suffer through that!

    noooooooooooooooooo!

I'm not vegan, just allergic to peanut butter.

Roasted soybutter is actually a very close substitute, tastewise.

I can't have the other nut butters either. So I'm glad I found a good substitute.

    Now soy cheese is disgusting!
