  1. Below is the story told through screenshots of an online forum and Twitter:

The short version: a friend whose best friend's wife (Shannon, class of 2001) is suffering from an inoperable, terminal cancer posted on an Aggie forum asking about a good bar or tailgate to watch A&M/Bama in College Station. She wanted to experience the gameday atmosphere in College Station one more time. Well, these good anonymous Ags surpassed that and got enough money to get tickets into the game, which were extremely difficult to find, especially given the necessary health considerations. They didn't stop there, though, and raised over $12,000, got sideline passes donated, and some other awesome stuff. Shannon had no idea anything was happening except that they were coming down for a tailgate. You can see her reaction:

    Proud to be an Aggie.

  2. It was really hard to keep up in that class, too. But I figure if in the next 9 days I can go enough (while it's affordable) to get the poses right, then I can do them on my own. Felt pretty damn good, and I'm a little sore between the shoulders and lower back. Great stuff, though.

I'm signing up for May classes tomorrow. I can't wait I love yoga!

Matt, maybe it was the type of yoga class that was too much for you. You should try a beginners class or hatha because it moves a lot slower and the stretches are deep and meant to calm you. Vinyasa or a flow class may move too quickly for you as a beginner.

Don't give up and try a different type of yoga.

    Namaste :)

Embarrassingly enough, it was a beginner class haha. I'm gonna get my money's worth out of these classes, but then may try something else.

Hey Matt... have you been keeping up with the classes?

    :P

Hahaha, christ no. That was a flash in the pan even by my standards

Star Wars nights in minor league baseball? Really wish there was a promotion night at the SA Missions games if only to watch all the dressed-up people get scared when a foul ball comes their way... like ewoks.

It's not just the minors. The rays have a Star Wars night every season.

That's awesome. I bet those lend themselves to some fun stuff between innings!

  4. lol what about nyc ;p

I think I've done quite a bit of traveling stateside and abroad...NYC wouldn't crack my top 20 Unfriendliest...or Friendliest.

We used to go into the City quite a bit on our off-days, and I got the same vibe... Great place to go largely unnoticed. Back down here, though, it seems like the whole community is watching. San Antonio is weird like that; 1.4 million people (something like that), but it has a small town dynamic in a lot of ways. Everyone seems to know everyone.

  5. Today was Dave Bolland's turn with the Stanley Cup. He spent part of the day here in London, Ontario. First stop was his home gym (they said he lives here in the off season). Then he took it to the Children's Hospital. Finally, he took it to a local prestige golf course. Afterwards, he left London and will spend the rest of the day with it in Mimico (where he was born). Dave is now a Leaf. After the story, the news anchor said that it was a good thing he's already won 2 Stanley Cups (implying he won't be winning any with his new team?).

Bolland has done some great things with the Hawks at just the right times. He will be missed more than some Hawks fans may think. Heard an interview with him yesterday on a Toronto radio station. He said he got quite emotional when he found out he was leaving Chicago. Good luck to you, Dave! And he will be a free agent next season so...

If he's emotional about leaving Chicago now, just wait until the Leafs season gets underway...

  6. just my opinion here, but I'm not a fan of the 16 day break in the 2013-14 NHL schedule in February while the winter Olympics are on.... I don't think NHL players should compete at the Olympics. any comments?

The Olympics are so much bigger than the NHL, and adding NHL players to the teams not only increases the talent level, but makes the teams more accessible to viewers. I like it; even though there will be a break from NHL, it won't be from hockey.

  7. @WharnsbyCBC

NHL's new division names: Pacific, Central, Metropolitan and Atlantic.

    "Metropolitan"? Really?

Also, looks like NHL players are officially going to be participating in the Olympics. Not really a surprise but it sure took them a while to work it out.

It's going to be really hard to get used to saying we're in the Atlantic Division.

That's nothing. Imagine being an Oilers or Flames fan, living hundreds of miles from the ocean, and realizing you're in the "Pacific" Division. Although I guess Phoenix and Dallas were in the old "Pacific" division, so that's nothing new.

"Metropolitan Division" just sounds dumb as hell.

Yeah, in the context of the other division names, definitely. For continuity's sake:

    Metropolitan Division = Metropolitan Division

Atlantic Division = Cold as Hell, Thank You for Giving Us Florida Division

Central Division = Blackhawks and Some Other Stuff Division

Pacific Division = Come for the Scenery, Stay for the Hockey Division
