  1. QUOTE (I know i'm going bald @ Feb 19 2011, 08:28 PM)
Dont listen to much radio other than the local station in the car to & from work .

Not yet heard any Rush on there though !

In the seventies this sort of music could be heard on a number of stations in the UK

My favourite show was The Friday Night Rockshow on BBC Radio One.

Tommy Vance was the DJ. Loads of great stuff.

    Those were the days yes.gif

    Tommy Vance R.I.P.

I remember stumbling on there Top 100 Countdown of all time - Stairway was Number One, but I'm certain Hemispheres (Side 1) was number 3. Just awesome.

Also caught TSOR on Radio 2 recently, but on a request show - still pretty cool as it was the day I had bagged my 2.gif tickets for NEC

  2. Scarlet Mist is a good site too - it is for genuine fans who just can't make the gig and don't want to make a profit like a scammer.

Keep a close eye on it too becasue the best tickets always seem to come up just before the gig when "emergencies" cannot be factored in.

Although I wouldn't recommend e-Bay etc, you will know where you are sitting and have the ticket in yor hand

Finally, if you are a Rush fan and have never seen them, please make sure you go - it IS worth it

Pre-sale tix are a waste of your time

    Agreed

I was so narked off at Pre-Sales I complained to the MD of the ticket company and got a decent upgrade along with some sympathy - restores your faith in human nature.

It's shame you have to rock the boat before being noticed though - but the squeakiest wheel gets the most oil

  4. Can't agree with this list -

If this is the bottom 9% of the Rush Catalogue according to Kenneth then something has gone badly wrong.

Animate, Dreamline, Manhattan Project, CTTH, Availible Light should all be in the top half - seriously

I know it is just personal taste and opinion, but c'mon what are your criteria?

No need to accuse the guy of being a psycho...Perhaps he just didn't know all of the stories many of us know about Neil being a loner. I'd say he's in the majority too. Maybe it comes across as a little too much, but maybe he just wants to say hi to the band.

Usually - I would reserve judgement

    However -

OK me bad i must know how Neil Peart opporates before i can approach him. Every book he's wrote is on order from amazon.
He's human like me and you, he has to get to the gig someway or other, unless he is beamed up. It's a simple enough question that you don't need to analize, don't worry i'm not going to stalk the guy.
Does he have any interests in touring the UK while on tour in May ?. i.e does he still tour on his motorbike ?. If not he will be doing the tour bus and hotel thing. If i'm wrong let you cast the first stone... wacko.gif So i'll ask any fans who seen the band on the S&A UK tour. Did Neil tour the UK on his bike. Did any fans see him arrive on his bike SIMPLES!!!...
The chances being that i may see all the band together if Neil is not touring on his own bus/bike.

    Lebanon

You do come across as being a bit scary - I mean post number 7 and you are banging on about Neils travel and hobby habits for the forthcoming UK Tour - and to restate Rusher, you sound just like the kind of psycho Neil wants to avoid.

You tell a tale of being a Rush fan since the late 70's and yet you sound either very naive or deliberatly obtuse, I need more posts to decide.

Either way, please stay away from any ideas you may have of trying to 'bump' into Neil and get his signature in a book he wrote that you can't be arsed to read.

Send it to the venue with a nice letter and wait . .

If anything happens to Neil before the Birmingham gig I will know who it was . . .

  7. UK is a similar pattern - All the decent seats have gone - a few halls have Sold Out but if you don't mind the climb and are happy to watch the Big Screen - still a few to go.

No idea if this is usually th case - once the boys start - I don't bother looking to see how many made it ..

Didn't Rush open for Kiss sometime in the 70's..?

    Yeah

Only a query: If Rush were to have an act open up for them, who would you choose?

If the remaining members of Led Zepplin joined forces with those from Pink Floyd and called themselves "Pink Zepplin" and did an hour or so - that'd keep me interested.

I've been to see Rush since 81 in the UK and they have never had an opening act. It would feel wrong IMO.

cleveland is the place to film, cuz they have the best audiences in the world.  so the better the audience, the better the performance- the better the bluray will be!!

cleveland isn't the rocknroll capital by mistake...
hell- without cleveland none of us would be here- in TRF i mean...

I seem to recall the Boys saying that Birmingham UK (The real Birmingham) wink.gif was the best audience

You re-watch ASOH and listen ..

I agree with MetalDad - MSG

They do like recording live outside of the states though, maybe it's so the sound isn't spoilt by all the "Whoop" and "F**k Yeah" - you can't buy class you know .. ..

None whatsoever. I think this is a perfect set list.  yes.gif

    goodpost.gif

When it was first announced I thought it was a little weak in the first phase, but having built it into a Playlist on my Pod and run through it a few times I think it really works.

    I love Freewill into Marathon

You also have to remind yourself of how good these songs sound live - try not to play the studio version in your head.

If I could change it, I agree that the more commom MP tracks like Tom Sawyer and YYZ could be rested and replaced with Xanadu, Driven (very powerful live) or Jacobs Ladder.

But I guess it isn't my turn to drive - so it will stay the same

whilst i concure with all that you say unfortunately new rush fans have long since missed out on the glory years but hopefully there will still be plenty of great music in the future also. wink.gif

Stop being a miserable old fart Tel -

I agree with Marc - anyone who discovers RUSH today has an amazing amount of quality and varied music to become engrossed in ..

Just becasue we were lucky enough to be around at the time doesn't mean others can't enjoy the legacy - I have become besotted with Pink Floyd recently and I know I will never see them live and especially at their prime .. but I am expanding my collection despite this ..

Music isn't just about being there - that's called luck

  12. I am 46 and I can just about remember 8-Track

I am assuming they must have lasted a lot longer in the US of A

Why not open it up and ask if anyone has Rush on Betamax or Phillips 2000 laserdisc .. better still see who has it on the most rediculous format and can still access it !!

Its no good having a wax cylinder if you don't have a wax-cylinder player

  13. QUOTE (different strings @ Aug 17 2010, 08:18 AM)
If I am not mistaken, the tour in the summer of 2011 will probably be called the CLOCKWORK ANGELS Tour after the release of the new album. They will do North America and parts of Canada again then they will hit Europe but alas, they will probably miss Australa altogether once again. new_thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

I was under the impression it goes like this -

    Release Caravan

Small US & Canada Tour 2010

    Finish off Clockwork Angels

Tour UK & Europe Spring 2011

Back to US & Canada in Autumn 2011

You're welcome. I feel for our European/Scandanavian kin who have to wait.

    Wow !! I mean f**king Wow.

I really wanted these songs to be great - and they are

  15. QUOTE (vital signz @ Apr 15 2010, 11:08 AM)
I'll bet Rush is one of the only bands that you can do this sort of an exercise with. I love so many bands: Zeppelin, Floyd, The Who etc.... they just don't have that many songs that when you hear a certain section in the song it makes you secretly smile, or feel a warmth thru you.

I think Pink Floyd must rank up there - they are so much more slef-indulgent than Rush

Listen to the track "Echoes" from Meddle - it's a lot like By-Tor with an eerie almost silent section that builds back to full force. Also Sheep from Animals has a lot of little passages that make you cringe uncontrolably ..
